I have two sections of my fiction bookshelves: authors whose books won't expand because they're dead (Edgar Rice Burroughs, Heinlein,Dickson, etc.) or not really producing much, (Kurtz, McCaffery, Kaye, etc.) and current authors whose shelf space must constantly be expanded to match my virulent need to own them (Brust, Lackey, Hamilton, Weber, Huff, Spencer).
I am looking forward to putting the first of your books on the ever-expanding side of my library. Having had a taste of what you write, I know I'm going to look forward to adding book after book to my library. It comforts me that you are a writing addict, for this means I will have a steady stream of win to add to my collection.
I know the old adage says "Don't judge a book by its cover," but I have found that in Science Fiction and Fantasy, crappy covers often do mean crappy books, and well-done covers often mean a good read is in store. Well, this cover is totally *awesome*. I can hardly wait to buy it!
But not always. I have a first edition of Diane Duane's "Door into Fire" (the one D. wants to burn, with the mostly naked girl crawling up the barbarian's leg -- the protagonist in the book is actually gay!)...
On the other hand, I gather this one was done by a person who actually read the book, and from what I have read of Seanan's writing (not enough!) I can make a safe assumption that the inside will do it justice...
eek. except I just realized I"ll be out of the country when it comes out. it would have been perfect for the plane, where there are no distractions so people don't notice when I totally ignore everything when I get into an awesome book.
Oh well. it shall be waiting in my mailbox when I get home :)
It's not actually a self-plug; people tend to pick up blurbs comparing new things to things they already know, which is why it's actually really, really good for new authors to have established authors going 'wow, this reads a lot like...' So I promise, it's really Tanya being crazy-wonderful and helpful.

The minute I can preorder this from Powell's or Third Place, it's *mine*.
Congrats, Seanan. Hope it sells like hotcakes.

"This book is good... it's almost as good as me and Jim."
Comes across as a self-plug more than an endorsement of your writing.
"Yeah, Seanan's good, but I'm made of awesome!"
GRRAGH. Irritating blurb is irritating.
TRIPLY so because I found the Blood Books to be bland, predictable, formulaic and mediocre.

Any idea if there will be a concurrent release in Canada? I might have to wait until I am in the USA for OVFF.
