Error error error.

Did you know that a Microsoft Word error can not only crash your file, it can delete it?

The whole file?

The whole four hundred page novel file?

The whole four hundred page, no backups from this week file?

Pardon me while I go non-linear.

Dear gods...!

Call if need be.
aieeee! that's almost the worst feeling ever when you figure that out!
Yikes! Before you do anything else - assuming this is Windows - be sure to check in that directory/folder for a hidden file named something like "~$My-Precious-Lost-four-hundred-page-novel.doc". You may need to turn on the ability to view hidden files in Explorer (tools/folder options-->view tab-->check "show hidden files and folders").

Normally Word will display these lost files after a crash, but just in case it's completely fubar'd, it's worth checking...
Yes, this. If you can search on the file-name, even for invisible files, you may be able to find something you can force to open and recover much of the data.

Dear stars... Good luck.

Are there any temp files at all in your AutoRecover folder? ETA: google offers this....
Ohhhhhhhhhhh. My deep sympathies. 8-(
Oh, god!

*prays it is recoverable*
Oh Gawd! If you want a shoulder to cry on...
You have my deepest sympathy, since I know what that's like; I've lost a 40,000+ word story myself due to a F$^%#$g computer hard drive.
The only way I figured out to avoid it is I e-mail once a day to myself whatever I'm working on.
*in which some extremely bad words are said, many of them in non-English languages*

The living FUCK?
Eeeeeeeep. And as the others said - try searching for hidden files for recovery. 'cause... ACK.

May Microsoft Word develop boils on its behind. And rectal fistulas.
I think it already has. :(
*prays that some variant is in the "hidden" files parts*
Well fuck.
Oh no. :( I hope you find a copy somewhere... if nothing else, last week's backup copy. *hug*

Agh!
There seems to be a theme of SUCK this week. IT'S ONLY TUESDAY. WTF, UNIVERSE????

I'm just going to go curl up in a corner and weep now.
I hope this is not a theme. The superstitious would begin claiming that it's a run-up to Friday.
