Cool things, number geekery, and travel plans.

(Please note that the things in my subject header will not necessarily be presented in the order in which they were, um, presented. Don't mind me, I'm very blonde today.)

Travel plans, take one: As many people have been able to put together from my vague rumblings, I'm heading for New York a week from, um, yesterday. Yeep. This is almost purely a business trip, as I'm going out to see my publisher, have lunch with my agent, and generally behave like a grown-up member of human society. (Kate even managed to get me into wool pants. Everybody say 'thank you, Kate.') I'm taking a red-eye flight from San Francisco on Tuesday night, and I'm going to be gone until the Ides of March. Internet access will almost certainly be limited during this time, because dude, I'll be in New York. Also, this is going to be Yet Another Trip to the East Coast during which I don't get to go to Maine. Given the estimated temperature in Maine at this time of year, that's probably for the best.

Travel plans, take two: I'm taking a much shorter trip at the beginning of April, flying up to Seattle to see my dearest darlingest Vixy and Tony, catch the pure hammered awesome that is Sooj in concert, and, oh, right, pick up my brand new kitten from Pinecoon Maine Coon Cattery. Pinecoon is run by Betsy Tinney, who's also serving as one of my subject matter experts for Discount Armageddon. It's weird to think that I'm about to have a cat that isn't a Classic Siamese, but I wasn't able to find any local catteries with kittens -- and I'll be honest, I fell in love with Betsy's cats the minute I walked in. I'm not happy about leaving Lilly alone while I go to New York, but at least I know her only cat status isn't going to last for long. Plus, my kitten? Is awesome.

Number geekery: According to today's count, Rosemary and Rue comes out in 180 days. This is a good number, but I liked yesterday's number better, because 181 is a strobogrammatic prime. A strobogrammatic prime is a prime number that, given a base and given a set of glyphs, appears the same whether viewed normally or upside down. It's one of the only primes that can't be defined with a simple algebraic equation. Also, depending on the way a given language writes its numbers, certain primes change from strobogrammatic to not strobogrammatic. And this is so cool. There just aren't words for the awesome. (I am a total number geek.)

And now, behind the cut, the cool.

Look! It's Clady Markham from Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues! Being totally cute and totally awesome and pardon me while I flail. I adore Katie's artwork -- you can find her over at katiecandraw.com -- and having a Katie-Clady just makes my month. Life is good.

Squee.

Thank you Kate
Kate is awesome, it's quite true.
Omg <3 for her tank top. :D
They're the Vista Del Mar WILD DOGS, bay-bee! How Clady hates her school.
If your publisher were S&S, I'd suggest a meet.
Indeed!
Drop me an email at your Lj account...maybe you'll be in the neighborhood. :)

pick up my brand new kitten

Hope you've got a good vacuum :-) Our Maine Coon sheds enough for any 3 cats although if you get them used to being brushed on a regular basis, it might help.
OTOH, our tiny little Siamese-in-a-white-mink-coat shed more than our Maine Coon & our other Siamese mix (both much larger) put together.

I plan to acclimatize her to brushing as quickly as possible.
That's a fun picture! And "Pinecoon Maine Coon Cattery" is a fun name to try to say several times fast. I wonder how long before you turn it into a song. Does the new kitten have a name yet, or does the naming of cats involve watching them a bit to see what sort of name fits?
Her cattery name is Pinecoon's Ado Annie; she's going to wind up called Something Else, as 'Annie' has weird connotations around my house, but I need to confirm with her that it's okay.
We have Maine Coons. They are incredibly sweet tempered and make very good companions. They do need daily brushing, though, or their fur mats up. They are also nearly as clever as Siamese, but have the length, size and bulk to carry through more nefarious plans, such as levering doors open by turning doorknobs, and are able to open cupboards better than many breeds.

I think you will adore your new four legged family member.
I figure that Lilly and the new girl can conspire to control the universe in reasonably short order.

Oh, absolutely!
YAY! Maine Coons! Ichigo, Kisuke, and the little sicky Willow are all Maine Coon-halflings. :) I hope you enjoy your fluffy new kitten.
Believe me, I intend to. :)
Hee! Floof! :D
Pinecoon. Pinecoon. Pinecoon.

I love saying that. That is so cool! (I think wordplay and prose are to me what numbers are to you. Or at the very least "pinecoon" is fun to say and is making me imagine all the spectacular cuteness of a very fluffy kitten with the roundness and other beauty of a big fat pinecone, and as I love both of these things I am happy.)

And, awesome, kitten, YAY! and et cetera. Happy publish-trip and all that.
It's a brilliant name for a cattery. I'm really happy.
Speaking of cats... um, IM me at some point. I, uh, got bored and made something for you. IM name's on the profile.
My IM insists I already have you on my list -- can you try pinging me and see what happens? Because I can't add you. :(
Yay, kitten! The cats on their site are gorgeous. My Mom has a boy who is obviously a Maine Coon mix. His name is Tiger, but nobody calls him that. He's called Trouble. And answers to it. Last night on the way up the driveway to Mom's, I saw eyes off to the side, stopped, opened the passenger door, and called, and sure enough, he hopped right in to save himself the remaining 1/8 of a mile to the house *snrk*.
Okay, that cat is way too smart. And you're a total kitty pushover. Just as an FYI.
