Wondercon art cards, phase one: inking.

So, in an effort to get people to stalk me -- I mean, ah, 'track me down' -- at Wondercon, I have declared that the first ten people to track me down and ask me about Rosemary and Rue will receive, gratis and on-the-spot, a specially drawn art card made entirely for the purpose of being given away to at-con, er, trackers.

Because I never work very well under 'you must do X by Y and PS don't screw it up' pressure, I decided the best way not to make this a crazy-making thing would be to do it entirely at random -- as in, just sit down, draw ten art cards, and whatever they turn out to be, that's what Wondercon gets. So I did. And the result was...

1. The Kitsune Girl from the Babylon Wood.
2. A very unhelpful turtle.
3. Toby, stark naked, in a pond, looking pissed.
4. Angie the centaur pirate (long, long story).
5. Bunny with an Electric Knights poster behind her.
6. The Rose-Owl from the Babylon Wood.
7. Cassie Hack from Hack/Slash.
8. Alice Healy with a nice cake.
9. Velveteen in her Junior Super Patriots yearbook picture.
10. A man-eating plant eating a human arm.

Don't worry if not all of those make sense to you -- they barely all make sense to me, and I drew them. Still, I think they're all pretty nifty, and I'll scan them in after I've had a chance to color them.

Life is good. Time to sleep.

I'm glad they'll be scanned once complete, because wow do I especially wanna see #3. *grins*
Seconded.

Although at first glance it looked like it said "Tony Stark naked" which is something completely different.
. . . Toby and Tony are not allowed to meet. EVER.
Whyever not?
Someone would wind up bleeding.
And this is a bad thing?
It might be me.
GLEH!
I'm very pleased with all of them, and the only way to encourage people to hunt me down in future is to make it entertaining. :)
Hunting you down is always entertaining, or almost (at least if it's done politely). I recall getting tackled once, which was cool and very startling (and probably entertaining for the folks around us).

Mmm. You mentioned stickers. Something to consider, given cons, is something that could stick to badges (little ribbons or something) or pins of some type. I think those are harder to manage than stickers, tho (and more expensive). (Stickers will, of course, work with some badges, but IMX usually obscure something.)

...random thought. You may want to see if it's worth it to open a CafePress shop (or other, similar service). I'm not sure what the costs, etc., are for that, tho. The postcard pic in particular, among the ones so far, would be great for that. Viral marketing? People walking around in t-shirts and hats advertising your book is definitely likely to put it in front of even some folks they don't talk to.
I'm considering ordering some ribbons -- they're a big deal at BayCon every year -- and maybe doing some postcards. The main problem with doing CafePress and such is the risk of annoying my publisher. See, I just need Hot Topic to decide that I need to be a product line...
Point, that. Is it worth asking what they think of the idea?
Not until the first book is out, and we can begin to see what kind of a response it's getting. There's this fine line between 'selling yourself' and 'becoming annoying' that has to be walked.
So. *coughs* I feel I have fulfilled my stalking requirements for the month, having been stalking you (well, I say you, I mean your LJ, surely for the purposes of the internet they are interchangeable?) for the past ... maybe two months? I love the Thoughts On Writing. And ... well, the crazy in general. ^^

And I wish I was going to Wondercon. (And could have gone to Comic Con, and all the other wonderful cons you Americans have. But alas, I live on the other side of the world, and must content myself with the occaisional half-hearted anime fest.) However this just made such a wonderful post from which to go 'hi! I'm Alex. and you are awesome and I want to buy your book (eventually.) may I friend you?'

*grins* So. May I?
Welcome, incredibly genial stalker! Yes, of course you may friend me, and thank you for enjoying our local brand of the crazy. :) Which part of the other side of the world are you on? I often find myself envying England their Discworld cons, but that's because I'm a big ol' geek. (I just envy Australia their many, many poisonous snakes.)
Oooh! Incredibly genial stalker! I think I might keep that one. ^^ (I, er, should also mention I am an incredibly sleep-deprived stalker. So the wit, she is not so much with me tonight.)

And though I have lived for two years in England I am indeed from (and currently residing in) good ol' Down Under. Which I am currently referring to as The Land Of Flood And Fire. Because it is not only persistent, but also very effective in trying to kill us all.

I share your love for both Discworld and snakes. Although I am good with all kinds, not just the poisonous. One of my favourite sections of The Last Continent combines the two, where Death did a search for 'Dangerous Flora and Fauna of Fourecks' and was crushed under piles of books, and then did a search for 'Non-Dangerous Flora and Fauna of Fourecks' and was eventually rewarded with a single sheet of paper which said simply 'some of the sheep'. It's funny 'cos it's true.

Also: I ramble. So I will go now and thank you for your indulgence. ^^ One thing to leave you with: We also have Discworld Conventions in Aus, though not quite as awesome as the UK. But we do have awesome ads. :)
Wit is not a requirement when there has been a shortage of sleep on the side of either party. Promise.

As for Australia -- which I usually refer to as 'The Land of Poison and Flame' -- I am really looking forward to WorldCon 2010, since that's going to be the first real excuse I've ever had to go and make my visit. I am going to ENJOY Australia. Hopefully without dying horribly.

Rambling is always permitted.
I'd like to see #2, myself.

As to #3, I could say she was just being koi, but that would be wrong.
*sputters gleefully*
I expect to be hearing that joke a lot.
I suppose it's inevitable, but it was new to me.
I'm going to post scans of the cards before the convention.
Will you be wearing a red trenchcoat and red wide-brimmed fedora at the Con so we can sing:

"Well she writes 'bout Toby Daye, first book coming in October.
She'll be at WonderCon, gotta find her first, and then,
Ask 'bout ROSEMARY AND RUE, you'll get an art card, so hurry over,
Tell me where at the Con is Seanan McGuire..."
My acapella group actually covers that song, amusingly enough.
