In which the original members of Lady Mondegreen have a reunion.

Many people don't realize this, because it hasn't come up much lately, but I am part of an acapella group. I am, in fact, one of the three founding members of Lady Mondegreen, an all-female filk acapella group with members all over the world (or at least, all over North America and Europe). Because I live on the West Coast and the other two founding members live on the East Coast, we have not actually performed together since 2007. So when ChessieCon asked us to do a concert, we said sure. Why the hell not?

Batya, Merav, and I rehearsed as much as we could while I was in New York, and made our way to the con, where we took the stage for a surprisingly (dauntingly) large crowd. Our set list was as follows:

Sound check:

Theme from Banana In Pajamas
The shunning of Josh (ala Charlie the Unicorn)
Theme from Disney's The Gummi Bears
Theme from Disney's Rescue Rangers

Actual concert:

"The Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown" (Eddie From Ohio)
"Bottom of the River" (Delta Rae)
"Lorelei" (The Pogues)
"Flu Pandemic" (The Flying Fish Sailors)
"If I Had a Boat" (Lyle Lovett)
"Mordred's Lullaby" (Heather Dale)
"Lilo" (parody)
"All In Green" (e.e. cummings, music by Batya Wittenberg)
"Anything For You" (Ludo)
"Bedroom Eyes" (Uncle Bonsai)
"Reunion Hill" (Richard Shindell)
"This Side of the Knife" (Talis Kimberley)
"Don't Go Down to the Quarry" (Peter, Paul, and Mary)
"Leaving On a Jet Plane" (John Denver)

Post-concert:

"We are Wyld Stallions!"
"We are Sex B-Bomb!" (Quoth Batya: "I don't want to be Sex B-Bomb.")
"We are Mouse Rat!" (Cue me bouncing up and down singing "Sex Hair/Sex Bears.")

...all in all, not bad for our first show in years.

I cannot take credit for All In Green. Credit or blame is all Batya's and e.e. cummings.
Also, The Flying Fish Sailors are responsible for Flu Pandemic, and Lyle Lovett is to blame for If I Had A Boat, though we very much do the Eddie From Ohio version. <3

We didn't wreck our train!
That concert was absolutely awesome and I keep on singing the songs to myself and remembering how much fun it was. :D Thank you for singing for us, please thank your fellow cohorts in crime for giving the concert as well. I really, truly enjoyed myself in a way for a concert that I haven't for a long time.
Hooray!

We are happy to have made you happy. :)
Y'all sounded great! And I forgive you for getting "Lilo" stuck in my brain. 8-)
Hee hee hee.
Cool!!!
We still got it.
1: All In Green is one of my favorite e.e. cummings poems. (The other being the one that has "Up so floating many bells down.")

2: I had to go digging around to see if I could find a Lady Mondegreen version. I did. Well, a sample, anyway.

3: I think I like it better than the Joan Baez version. And much better than my own pathetic attempts, years and years ago.

4: ...FAQ sez no CD yet. Darn.
There isn't likely to be one any time soon, alas.

That sounds like wonderful fun, I'm glad you had the opportunity! And that sound check, I adore it. Just seeing that list pushes several nostalgia buttons for me.

Mental note: show Joshua Rescue Rangers.

To be fair, the sound check was open to the audience, so that basically was part of the concert...
Gorgeous, funny, & just plain pretty--& the music was pretty good, too! Thank y'all so much for sharing it all with us!
Very welcome!
Sounds like everyone involved had a blast, and I love the set list.
It was super-fun.
That was a lot of fun -- thank you for doing it!

And I am -slightly- sorry for scheduling it right after Shabbos (but alas, it really -was- the best time for it!)
I understand the need to schedule according to the con's needs, I truly do.

Squee, Mordred's Lullaby! I heard Heather Dale perform it a few years ago, and it single-handedly changed my mind about filk. I was never a fan until that song.
Cool bunch of songs! Anytime someone in my household talks about what they'd do if they had some unlikely thing they want, someone else will inevitably say "and if you had a pony, you'd ride him on your boat" - that Lyle Lovett song has become part of our personal idiom.
Hee hee yay.
