On the thirteenth day of Hogswatch, your Seanan gave away...

...a MYSTERY.

Welcome to the last of the Thirteen Days of Hogswatch. Each giveaway in this year's extravaganza has come with different rules and a different deadline, although all prizes will be mailed on December 30th, because I am bad at going to the post office (and also, avoiding the post office until that other winter holiday is over).

The thirteenth, and last, giveaway is for a MYSTERY ITEM of some kind. What will it be? No one knows! Not even me. This is going to be a random number drawing, because why I said so. So...

1. To enter, comment on this post.
2. If you are international, indicate both this and your willingness to pay postage.
3. Tell me one thing you hope the prize is. (ETA: Please only ask for things I might actually have. I can't give you a new job or world peace. I wish I could.)
4. Tell me one thing you hope the prize is not.
5. Tell me why the RNG should pick you.

I will choose the winner at 1PM PST on Sunday, December 20th.

Game on!

1. Commenting accordingly.
2. US, definitely willing to pay postage.
3. Hope yes: an ARC of _Chaos Choreography_
4. Hope no: an intriguing, innovative, incurable illness
5. Because Uncle Murphy loves us well.
1. Comment
2. US :)
3. An ARC or chapter of the upcoming Toby book!
4. A felted cat hair ornament
5. The RNG should choose me because I'd really like it to. :3
Okay, so, one thing I hope the prize is would be Discount Armageddon, I just love Verity's stories. And uh, I guess something I hope the prize is not would be any of the early October books. Not that I don't love them, I absolutely do, but I already own 1-7, so it would just sort of be extra ... unless it was in a different language, which would be awesome, even if I don't speak that language. Anyway, the RNG should pick me because I've never been able to win a contest from one of my favorite author's before, and it would just sort of make my holiday if I won something from you!
Hello, I comment! (And am not international.)

I hope the prize is an object that contains writing somewhere. (CDs often do, after all. And books certainly do.)

I hope it's not sticky. (Which is on my mind because I just had a honey accident. Alas.)

The RNG should pick me 'cause Massachusetts is grey and cloudy right now, and I'm feeling kinda grey, myself.
I do so love your Hogswatch celebration. Thank you for doing this. (Not international.)

I hope this prize is an ARC, or something rare that I can squee over to other, less-fortunate, fans of Seanan. I hope this prize is not a poster, because I have no wall space. The RNG should pick me, because I've been a good girl all year long.
I am international and very willing to pay postage. I hope the prize is a copy of The Red Rose Chain, as I can't get that in NZ. I hope it is not an earlier Toby book, as I picked all those up last year. The RNG should pick me because I'd love to read more Toby!

1. This is my comment!
2. I am in the US, and thus not international.
3. I kinda hope it's one of the anthologies you're in that I don't own, which is most of them. (I only have the Mad Scientist's Guide)
4. I hope it is not one of your books that I already own, or if it is, that it is the first in a series, so that I can infect other people with your books.
5. The RNG should choose me because my orange and whiney cat Roman says "Mowwww!" which I choose to believe means he thinks I should win.
I hope the prize is an ARC of Every Heart a Doorway
I hope the prize is NOT a box full of spiders, because that would be terrifying
The RNG should pick me because I'm facing a holiday season that's just me and my cats - my parents' schedule won't allow them to drive to me, I don't have a car to drive to them, and my spouse is trapped in Canada waiting for his green card interview :-(
Hm.. Things I wish: Lunch with Seanan at a con. Winner pays..
Things I wish not: A copy of any book in print because I have them all.
RNG: After the work day so far, I am due for good luck...

In the US!
An ARC of Every Heart a Doorway!
uhhhhhh...spiders?
Because my family doesn't do gifts, so I'm not getting any presents any time soon
1. Comment!
2. USA
3. One of your poetry chapbooks? I've been wishing I could buy your poetry for years.
4. One of your CDs (I already own them all)
5. I will sacrifice a lobster to the gods of the RNG!
Hello! I am in the US.

I hope the prize is a Toby book, though there are other things I would be excited about also.

I hope the prize is not an alligator, because it probably wouldn't survive being mailed, and also what am I supposed to do with an alligator?

The RNG should pick me because I am waiting to hear back about a job interview and am really stressing about it.
i am international and willing to pay UK postage.

i really hope this is further tales of wonder and intrigue. or possibly Alice (er. maybe an Alice-shaped toy or doll.)

i really hope this is _not_ the second coming of Cthulhu. or something that followed you home from the cornfield.

the RNG should pick me because i would totally give it the thing that followed you home from the cornfield.
1. Comment!
2. I live in the US!
3. I hope the prize is: a copy of Parasite, because the one I have is ebook and I WANT IT IN MY HANDS. Otherwise, I also lust after Stars Fall Home and Creature Feature because I don't have them yet.
4. I hope the prize is not something deadly that Seanan loves but which would kill me dead.
5. The RNG should pick me because I will stroke its code and whisper sweet 1s and 0s to it and make it feel cherished and loved.
1. Commenting! :)
2. US resident.
3. A tiny miniature of an Aeslin mouse, because I'm obsessed.
4. A real Aeslin mouse, because my cats need no more worship.
5. Because I'm cute when I squee over neat things.
1. Post!
2. Domesticated
3. A handwritten copy of one of your poems. Or a voucher redeemable for one beverage at a future convention.
4. A one-way ticket to the Corn.
5. I'm fairly random, so the RNG and I have that in common. Maybe it also likes homemade soup.
I am international and am able to pay for postage.
I hope the prize will be a book.
I hope its not something like a box full of wasps.
The RNG should pick me as I could really use some good news right now. My grandad is dying from brain cancer, my partner decided to move out after living together for 5 years and I'm unsure where that leaves us. I'm going to be working over christmas and I dont know if I have passed my course or not.
1. (/is a comment)
2. US local!
3. I'm hoping for A Fantasy Medly 2 because I love me some Tybalt and I haven't gotten to read "Rat-Catcher" yet.
4. Something I already have? Which is... Toby books 1-3 and 6-9.
5. Because I (almost) never win things and the RNG is secretly on my side.
1) done
2) US
3) your secret to getting so much stuff done! (but more realistically, anything InCryptid!)
4) a virus that will bring the zombie apocalypse
5) because I need something to look forward to after grading all these final exams...
Oohhhhhh, fun!

1) Here I comment, hear me roar.
2) I am NOT international
3) I hope the prize is an ARC of the next October Daye book!
4) I hope it's not a vial of the zombie virus from the Newsflesh world, because that would probably be bad...and yet oh-so-tempting at the same time...
5) The random number generator should pick me because I was really hoping I'd get to meet you at Chessiecon, and I ended up going out of town for Thanksgiving instead so I didn't get there, and now I'm sad and you're still on the opposite coast.

I am in the US, so no international postage needed. I hope the mystery object is a drawing of a Pokemon by Seanan (or any drawing, really, as that's something I don't have and I like the few drawings I've seen.)! I hope it is not a snake, as I'm not a big fan (sorry, snakes), plus it seems mean to put them in a box and mail them... I think the RNG should pick me because it would really make my December (which is mostly taken up by a teenager trying to drive her mothers to crazytown!).
1. This be a comment
2. Still USA-Ian
3. A signed copy of Sparrow Hill Road. Or any of your books really.
4. Spiders. I know you love them, but I'm one of those folks who's really creeped out by them. Plus they'd hate the shipping from California to Virginia.
5. To make up for me having to do a full system reinstall on my computer today, making me lose a whole lot of files.
US, another Chaos Choreography ARC omg!!! and not... an October Daye novel because I already have them. The RNG is random and should pick me randomly.
1. Comment is a comment. (Recursive we are, yes.)

2. Oregon is still Oregon, thus soggy but within the US.

3. One thing (among many) that I hope the Mystery Item might be is a copy of Fantasy Medley 2, the book in which "Rat-Catcher" appears.

[A note here, because the "ETA" parenthetical adds a slight element of potential ambiguity to the rule set: the above is a statement of hope, per the rule as originally framed. It is not a statement of expectation; the Mystery is the Mystery, and I acknowledge that -- like everyone else in the game -- I have no control over what it might in fact be. Given the parameters of the game, I consider my expressed hope an unlikely prospect but not an impossible one, and therefore within the scope of the rules.]

4. I hope the prize is not a Maine Coon cat.

[I considered expressing the hope that the prize is not a vial containing a deadly pandemic such as Kellis-Amberlee, but given the qualifier expressed in the "ETA" parenthetical, I'm assuming that the statement here should also reflect an item that you might realistically have in your custody. "Vial containing deadly pandemic" is entertaining but not realistic, and therefore is logically outside the scope of the rules. Conversely, since we know you have Maine Coon cats in your custody (for relative values of "custody"), this makes them eligible to be Things That We Hope The Prize Is Not. In point of fact, I consider "vial of pandemic" or "Maine Coon cat" as being equally unlikely to be the Mystery Item.]

5. The RNG should pick me because the longer it goes without doing so, the more statistically likely it becomes that it will do so on the next possible occasion -- which is to say, this one. (Fuzzy math is fuzzy.)

Oh gosh!!

1. To enter, comment on this post.
Yep!

2. If you are international, indicate both this and your willingness to pay postage.
National, still willing to pay postage if it would help.

3. Tell me one thing you hope the prize is. (ETA: Please only ask for things I might actually have. I can't give you a new job or world peace. I wish I could.)
I was all set to say an ARC of "Every Heart a Doorway" when my brain interrupted loudly with "NARBONIC FANART" So, um, either of those.

(even if I do win EHaD, I will probably buy it anyways, I am SO EXCITED that you -awesome amazing writer you!- are writing a post-happily ever after story, because I love love LOVE that sort of nonsense and squeeeeeee!!!!)

4. Tell me one thing you hope the prize is not.
The wrong copy of Blackout. Which is to say, I would be thrilled to get a copy of Blackout, but my copies of Feed and Deadline are the weird slightly-taller-than-trade paperback versions, and I would just feel annoyed if when I complete the trilogy, it doesn't match.

I was going to say "a snake" but fuck that, snakes are awesome, you may send me as many snakes as you can without harming the snakes.

5. Tell me why the RNG should pick you.
I'm a math teacher, so statistically, it shouldn't. That being said, I am often lucky at random draws (my local Rocky Horror troupe used to raffle off kisses from cast members, good times!) so I choose to believe that my luck may activate again.

Will we find out what the mystery package was after it is sent? Or shall I always remain curious?

~Sor!
