From what I understand, I assume Alice left Kevin and Moira(?)/Jane with the Gucciards, and Kevin and Mike grew up together. I'm not sure how that sort of "long-term guest in ally's home without parents" atmosphere turns a bookish historian into the sort of man used to giving orders that are obeyed to temperamental, competent, deadly people. I like to imagine some of that was Evelyn's influence.
I also really, really hope Alice finds Thomas and there's a reunion. This family needs one, despite the tension that might cause among the family. (Particularly if what Alex has discovered about Thomas' teachings while in Australia is found in other aspects of the family records.)
