INDEXING: REFLECTIONS episode #6, "Frostbite."

The sixth episode of Indexing: Reflections is available now! This is your talkpost and discussion zone. There will be spoilers in the comments here. As always on talkposts, I have partial comment amnesty, and will not be responding to everything.

"Frostbite" marks the end of the first half of this serial, and the beginning of the second (funny how that works). Time is strange, in the whiteout wood. Hurry, and you may catch up.

Once upon a time...

It should be out in January, along with the collected volume two.

I knew this was coming, the moment Adrianna reappeared, I knew this moment was coming. And yet. it's here, and I'm still shocked by it. I don't believe Henry is lost, but I'm still shaking.

So, on to the analytical. I said it before, and I say it again, I don't see Adrianna fooling anybody for long. It's like Spock said, you know, the line about barbarians pretending to be civilized. Well, the same applies for insane people pretending to be sane, and Adrianna is crazy as they come. We'll just have to see how things work out.

Loved it, even if it did make me cringe!
Seconding this.
OMG, Henry
Well, this isn't good. I'll just have to trust Sloane to catch on fast and deal with the impersonator.

Jeff is the one I'm really worried about right now. When he sees Henry's eyes open, he won't be thinking, he'll be feeling. He'll be so happy that she's back he's likely to miss any red flags, or attribute them to her being disoriented. He's all alone with her, and Adrianna made it pretty clear she plans on doing some killing.

Still, I imagine she intends to try and pass herself off as Henry for a time, and that will trip her up. Henry isn't dead, or in danger of dying. Adrianna told her she'd be doing the same thing in 20 years, so she knew she couldn't kill Henry in the Whiteout Wood. All she could do was trap her there, and for Henry to get back, she needs Adrianna out of her body.

Sounds to me like someone may need to force feed her an apple. I wonder who they could find to do that?
I figure the first time Adrianna says something nasty about Gerry, the jig will be up. But yes, it's going to be especially hard on poor Jeff.

In Sloane we trust... Which sounds weird, but on the other hand she's had more experience with the narratives than the rest of the team put together. So, trust Sloane and hope.

While I'm thinking about it, I wonder if Adrianna really is Henry's auntie, or if that's another lie.

It's going to be a very long fortnight.
Well, there's enough of a resemblance between them for our suspicious Henry to buy it.
Yes, but can we trust appearances in the wood?

I've guessed wrong before, so who knows?
I don't think Henry believes her just because there's a familial resemblance. It's an "I am your father" moment; she doesn't want to believe it, but she knows it's true. It could be this is why Adrianna is able to hijack her body; maybe there needs to be a blood connection to use someone as a doorway.
A blood connection, that's an interesting thought.
It came to me when I was pondering the first part of this chapter. It seems that Adrianna waited for Henry to be born before she took her own life. Why? There had to be other Snow Whites out there, so why did she need Henry? The only answer I can come up with is they share the same blood.
Things I have learned from Twitter and "Frostbite":

Seanan's real name is Adrianna.
She likes to call her bedroom "the heartland"...so much blood. :-D
Heeeee.
SEANAN NO.

I was metaphorically biting my fingernails through out, and now I am screaming hysterically in my head. Blood everywhere! Her aunt! Mirror talk! I'm freaking out.

I'm sort of wondering if running from Adrianna wasn't an error from the beginning-- there's been a lot of mentions of fleeing and blood on the snow as part of the narrative, and I'm wondering if that wasn't a bit catnip to the story.

Also I don't like Gerry much (you dumped your sister for eight years????) but OMG I want to jump in and warn him. Danger danger danger! Someone save Gerry! (Seriously, Elise already targeted him once, is anyone watching him? Did he do the smart thing and take a sudden sabbatical in Bermuda/ on Mars/ someplace with no snow and no roses and no bears?) (And no fiber arts implements, apparently.)

And last of all: am I the only one who kind of wants to see Elise and Adrianna face off?
Is there something higher than a cliff? Because that's what I'm hanging from, waiting for the next episode.
SEANAN YES.
EEEEEEEK.

Henry!!!!
Yippee!!_
