Alice Healy, Bad Idea Bear.

It's time for some free fiction, and for the first story of the Alice and Thomas era. The year is 1954. Frances Healy has been gone for almost a decade. Things have changed in Buckley Township, Michigan. But a remarkable number of things have managed to stay the same.

With "The Way Home," we welcome Thomas Price, Covenant researcher, to Buckley, and we see what the future is going to hold. There's no question that it's going to be a party. It always is, when there are this many knives involved.

You can download the new story now from the InCryptid short fiction page.

Oooh! Than you!
Welcome!
Hooray! And on my birthday, too! Yay for new InCryptid stories!
Happy birthday!
I like how within five minutes of Thomas showing up in town, the town already assumes 'young man with British accent' = 'oh, he must be someone here visiting the Healys', because the thought that someone from a foreign country would come to Buckley for reasons other than family is unthinkable.

And Thomas pretty quickly figures out that there's no way in Hell he can spy on the Healys in a tiny town where everyone is in everyone else's business, so he might as well just be upfront about his arrival, lest he be shot in the woods or something.
Yup!

Also, it cracks me up that the Covenant in all their wisdom sent a rebel guy to uh, look for other rebels. Smooth move there, guys.

Yay!!! Thank you!
Glee.
Hmmmm, I knew there'd be an age difference, but for Thomas to be mistaken as Jonathan's older brother.... interesting. I wonder how much older than Alice he really is.
According to the Price family tree, he's 9 years older than Alice and so should be 25 in this story.

Thanks. :)
Welcome.
I love Alice, I love Thomas. I love how you're unfolding the universe from both ends of the story. This was lovely and sweet and awesome.
Someday I'll meet in the middle and look very puzzled.
I have been waiting for this and I am looking forward to more! Especially Thomas with his ah, brutal honesty. However shall this go?
Well enough to result in another generation, so there's that.
I loved it. Thank you.
Very welcome.
Loved it. But I totally got a little choked up at the new header for the Alice and Thomas stories. Oh, Fran...
I'll miss her too.
Oooohhhhh Alice. *facepalm*

I already love her.
Me, too. :)
One of my favorite things with these early stories is Buckley. Because I grew up on a farm about an hour away and so much of it rings true. I end up sort of nostalgic for the years on the farm where stuff rustled through the woods and freaked me out regularly.
I am so glad I got the feel of things right for you.
She is so much like her parents (T.T) The story made read the previous ones and then i cried again.
How old is Thomas? He sounds older, but i can tell how much, as there was not a lot of physical description of him.
Thomas is ten years older than Alice.
I like Thomas already. Looking forward to watching this develop...
While I loved meeting Alice and her Thomas (and angler tortoises, and swamp bromeliads), the constant undercurrent for me is how profoundly broken Jonathan still is without Fran. So much turned inward and wanting Alice to be "normal". So sad.
He never recovered.
Wonderful story. How did Alice survive this long running from acid spitting reptiles into omnivorous flowers? With that sort of track record it is no wonder she falls asleep in front of the first Covenant member she runs into. :)
Fran would have been very proud of her. Wonder if Jonathan will ever be able to realise no daughter of Fran's would sit still for being protected.
Thomas Price is shaping up into someone I'll miss when he get sucked into some gateway.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Very welcome.
Not at all what I expected for Alice, Thomas, and Jonathan. And totally awesome. Looking forward to the unfolding. Thank you for the stories.
You're welcome.
I just read "The Way Home" after having seen "Crimson Peak" last night. So Thomas Price is now firmly wearing the face of Tom Hiddleston. For some reason he's also insisting on wearing Victorian era clothes in 1954... Also, I really have to wonder how all those cryptids manage to stay hidden from mainstream science while no Healy or Price seems to be able to walk this earth for more than half an hour without bumping into them.

Thanks a lot for yet another good read. Hooray for Alice and Thomas, feline as well as fictional.
Snrk.
