T-shirt update and a point of apparently vital clarification.

Shirt update.

Mailing continues! I would estimate that I have three trips to the post office left to go, one domestic, two international (since I am only allowed to bring so many international shirts to the post office at one time). This has taken so very, very long, and for that I am genuinely sorry. This batch was more than twice the size of the last, with the associated administrative headaches (people asking for color/size/cut combinations that didn't exist, shirts not included in the batch from the printer, people not paying when prompted, which meant that we couldn't send the order to the printer in the first place, etc.), and as a consequence, it ran headlong into my convention season, which slowed me down like whoa.

There are a lot of reasons we're never going to do this again—this batch was the last, or at least the last "bespoke"—but the biggest is the scale. When I did the first T-shirt run, I was still a relatively new author, and so there were fewer people who cared enough to want to wear me on their chests, so to speak. The number of interested parties has increased with each run, and it's just become unmanageable. Thank you all for your patience. For the most part, you have all been incredibly kind.

The missing shirts have finally arrived, and are in their nicely sealed box, waiting for me to finish getting the first batch out the door. I will not open this box until I have cleared the space for immediate packing and shipping, to prevent excessive cat hair (or possibly a cat) from accompanying the shirts to their final destination.

Shirts!

The point of apparently vital clarification.

This past week, someone who knows me well enough to know my overall living situation, asked if something could be sent priority. I said that wasn't going to be possible, as I wasn't going to be able to get to the post office immediately, and would be putting stamps on the item and shoving it in my mailbox. My friend responded with, essentially, "Have your PA do it."

Y'all, there is no PA for this sort of thing. There is only me.

I have two functional PAs: Kate and Vixy. On a day to day level, this means they go through my website email before I see it, so that we don't have to deal with me going into a tailspin the next time someone decides to tell me that they're going to kill my cats. (A real thing, that people have really emailed me about, because humans are sometimes awful.) Vixy has a good grasp of my schedule, and while she cannot accept convention invitations for me, she can usually say whether or not a thing is likely. Kate knows when I am over-committing myself, and will smack me with a rolled-up newspaper. Kate is local enough that I see her about once a week (roughly). Vixy lives two states away from me.

When I talk about mailing things, I am talking about me, just me, going to the small, rural post office near my house, and mailing them. When I talk about doing inventory, or packing things, or sending CD reships, I am saying "these are all things I do personally, after I have finished making my word count for the day." And this is why sometimes CDs go out of stock, or it takes a long time for me to carry a large shipping batch, ten or twenty items at once, down to the post office.

I don't want sympathy, and I don't mind doing what I do; I wouldn't volunteer if I minded. But I would like people to keep in mind, when their giveaway prizes take a while or their customs forms are filled out sort of sloppily, or when I say "this is not open to international winners, I am so sorry, I just can't handle the customs forms right now," that it's just me, and I am just one person, with two hands, trying to climb an avalanche.

Thank you.

I remember that, as well, and am also very glad you have a buffer.

That sort of terrorism ought to be punishable, seriously.

I don't know if something like Cafepress would be a good fit for you or not, but it's how operations like Studio Foglio handle having merch in all the sizes/colors/different products without having to keep inventory on hand or deal with payment/shipping.

As to whoever would send miserable e-mails, ugh. I'm glad you have a troll swatter and sorry that you need one.
The quality of Cafepress's products is so low that I am not willing to use them.

because it seems timely... *hugs and hugs*

and the luxurious thing about internet hugses is that they never hurt. :)
Hugs are awesome.

It's no problem at all! The way LJ marks comments as spam is damned annoying.
Ugh. I am so sorry for the suck that led to this announcement.

I work as an admin assistant, though for a company--not as a PA, and you know what? Even if you had a full-time, in-person-every-day PA who was the model of efficiency, sometimes the answer would still be "No." Anyone who doesn't get that is a jackass. You (and your team) are people, not vending machines. And no matter how much someone desperately wants their shiny new t-shirt or CD, waiting a few more days or weeks is NOT an emergency.
Thank you for understanding that. <3
Since I also feel a need to say it: You are amazing. Your* cats are amazing. Your* human cats are amazing. *nods*

The cats feel those pronouns are always reversed.

People seriously do that? Sheesh. That's horrible. Massive *hugs* to you and the cats and Kate and Vixy. And more *hugs*. And even more *hugs*, 'cos nobody should have to put up with that.
People seriously do that. It's why there are so few cat pictures around here these days.

1) we love you and appreciate all that you do for us, your fans and readers
2) I totally sympathize with the difficulty of explaining to people what "I am a one man/woman shop" means. (Because solo potter.)
3) I'm *so* glad our t-shirts arrived in time for me to wear one on my last radio show (after 25 years). Declaring "my story is not done" is one of the things that kept me from getting weepy as I signed off for the last time…
I am so glad your shirt reached you in time for the occasion.
It still baffles me just how much you manage to accomplish in a day. *hugs*

I totally understand that some people would like to have their shiny things right away but I also understand that sometimes, all you can do is have patience. If anything, it makes the shiny things that much better when they do finally arrive.
Thank you.
*sigh* LJ ate my post

Short version, Thank you Seanan, Kate, Vixy and relevant Feline Overlords™.

We thank you and appreciate your constant efforts, though never as openly or as frequently as you deserve.

HUZZAH! MISSING SHIRTS!

Thank you for doing all of this. You are awesomesauce personified. :)
You are very welcome. :)
People really say that about your cats? people are horrible.

My Tshirts arrived (joyfully they actually got delivered! a rarity for transatlantic shipping which normally needs me to go and collect), they are excellent, really lovely, and I appreciate the hard work that went into organising all this.
People did, yes. Because they're not rescues, and thus clearly do not deserve to live.

Even if you had an in-person PA, and even if your PA was on duty the day in question, the hourish it takes your PA to make a special trip to the post office is an hour the PA isn't doing anything else. And if you were paying a PA to work for you for regular hours, presumably you have enough you want your PA to do to fill those hours. That said, most cities have personal assistant services should you wish to hire a PA by hour for whatever reason, or wish to ask someone if it's worth it to him/her to pay what it would cost to hire done whatever s/he's asking you to do for free. (You'd have to direct the PA, but you can probably get the PA to do something else as well and save more time than it takes.)
Yup, pretty much.
I hope you can find a print-and-mail service with acceptable quality so you don't have to keep doing everything yourself.
I'm not looking for one.

People keep trying to solve the wrong problem. The issue is not "can't have shirts made." It's "can't control quality with one of those services, do not have the resources to monitor them, or to deal with people still assuming that they = me and hence I can solve problems." I do it myself or I don't do it. Since people would not back off on asking for updates, and would not pay promptly (thus allowing this process to go smoothly), it's over. It's done. The bad apples have spoilt the entire bushel.

I've heard good things about TeeSpring (they had some issues early on, but all the ones I know of have been resolved) and I'm going to try them out soon rather than collecting orders, organizing a print run, and shipping shirts myself as I have in the past. If you were looking for someplace else to handle your shirt orders, I'd recommend you look into them.

But from the other comments it sounds like you actually want to just stop doing shirts entirely, rather than have someone else deal with collecting orders, shipping shirts, etc. And that's perfectly reasonable! You've got enough to deal with, without doing side projects you don't want to do.
Thank you for understanding.
I can't believe anyone could say something like that about your sweet kitties (or anyone's for that matter). So glad you don't have to read that kind of evil.

As far as shirts go, you are amazing; I used to be a shipping manager and I know how crazy it can be.
I just was part of an fund raiser that used the a place called Custom Ink for shirts and the quality and sizes available were really good
Thanks for the tip.
Massive Hugs. That is all.
Thank you.
I love you. Thank you for being so awesome, and boo to the bad apples that spoil things.

*hugs*

I wish to do much violence to those who would threaten your beloved pets because they are not what some people deem "appropriate." I've not had death threats, but I have had the experience of someone trolling my journal (after which I went completely friends-only) when one of our cats got outside. We hadn't the money to spay her; we'd just moved, and in our previous state, vets were charging $150+ for just the spay operation, which on the limited budget we had, we could not afford. Of course, this meant that we didn't deserve to have pets, and we were horrible pet abusers for allowing her to get outside and become pregnant -- and even worse "abusers" for not terminating the pregnancy. We chose not to because we knew many people who would want kittens, and the spay operation is decidedly more complicated when the cat is pregnant. This person claimed we were "stealing homes from animals in need of rescue", which is patently ridiculous. As it was, there were only two kittens, which we kept (but of course, we should have adopted rescues instead), and who became my ex-bf's service kitties. When we broke up, they went with him, because they were very devoted, and they were his service kitties. Literally, one of the kittens would do things like come and get me upstairs when my ex slept through his pain medication, and on more than one occasion, when my ex was in too much pain to reach his medication bag, the kitten would drag it across the bed to him with his paws (he did this as I was reaching for the bag myself. I stopped and watched because it was just so incredible).

So, while I haven't had the threats, I very very very much sympathize with judgement and cruel words for not being the "right" kind of pet owner. I've also been told I shouldn't be allowed to have pets because I don't have a $2000+ savings for emergency vet care. I have always managed to come up with the money when it was needed, but because I don't have the savings, I'm an animal abuser. Some people are just fucked up.

As for the t-shirts, I am in abject horror. You were very upfront about how you were handling it, and that it was something you were doing all on your own. I am extremely glad that I decided to order multiple t-shirts because I adore my Slasher Chicks and Wicked Girls t-shirts (although I dearly wish I had gotten more than one of the original black set of the roller derby; I have had such bad experiences in the past with shirts, and I was tight financially at the time, that I didn't want to risk getting more than one and having it not fit or be comfortable... instead, i wear that one soooo much because it's amazingly comfy; I guess I can only hope someone ebays one in my size sometime, or that maybe some get found tucked away "someplace safe" -- hey, a girl can always dream, right? I feel the need to stress that I am NOT ASKING, just regretting that I did not buy more than one and engaging in idle fantasy). They are easily some of my most comfortable clothing, and I love them so very much.

I sincerely want to have some Extremely Terse Words with the people who have caused you so much grief over the t-shirts that you've decided not to do them at all. I had been hoping for a future release, so I could get more comfy awesome t-shirts and tanks with the kickass logos. Thank you so very much for the shirts that you have done. I am so sorry that so very many people have made this such a painful headache for you that you don't feel that you can do it anymore.
What's your size in the black tank tops?

Thank you for that.
Thank you for the update. I'm eagerly awaiting two shirts (for values of 'eagerly awaiting' meaning 'I know this thing is coming, when it arrives it will be so great, but I am in no particular hurry'), so I appreciate knowing that I don't have to go hassle my post office, because my shirts are still on their way. You do a lot of great things for your fans, and I'm so grateful, but I and most sensible people understand that the 29 pan-dimensional clones are hyperbole, and that things sometimes take time.

And if anyone is having trouble with this concept, send them to me, and I will hit them with a rolled-up newspaper.
Are you US or international? I ask because--apart from the "not included with the original batch" shirts--there are two US envelopes waiting to go out (they wound up in the wrong bag) and two that have been returned to me for bad address information.
