Current projects, February 2015.

Every month I make a post to tell folks what I'm working on, a) because it seems polite, b) because it keeps me accountable, if only to myself, and c) so you will understand why I do not have a social life. This is the February 2015 post. Hooray! Everything is awesome.

To quote myself, being too harried to say something new: "These posts are labeled with the month and year, in case somebody eventually gets the bizarre urge to timeline my work cycles (it'll probably be me). Behold the proof that I don't actually sleep; I just whimper and keep writing."

Please note that all books currently in print are off the list, as are those that have been turned in but not yet printed (Pocket Apocalypse, Chimera, A Red-Rose Chain). Chaos Choreography and Rewind are off the list because they're finished and in revisions with the Machete Squad. The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. I have horror movies and terrible things from the swamp to keep me company.

Not everything on this list has been sold. I will not discuss the sale status of anything which has not been publicly announced. If you can't remember whether I've announced something, check the relevant tag, or go to my website, at www.seananmcguire.com. Please do not ask why project X is no longer on the list. I will not answer you.

***

Once Broken Faith.
October Daye, book ten. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. I can't say much about this book yet, since you're now all three books behind me, but it's gonna be fun. Status: I am roughly 20,000 words in, and rolling right along.

Magic For Nothing.
InCryptid, book six. Paranormal romance/urban fantasy, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Antimony Price takes her first turn as a lead character. Status: outlined, will begin work soon.

Echo.
Echo, book one. YA science fiction about parallel universes. Sort of Fringe meets The OC. With mathematicians and science, because I'm still me. Status: in outlines, getting ready to write the sample chapters.

Sit, Stay, I Hate You.
Coyote Girls, book two. Young adult horror/paranormal romance, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Having survived the events of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues, Clady would really like it if her life would settle down and get, y'know, easy for a little while. Clady is not going to be terribly happy with me, either. Status: officially paused, waiting for the edits on Lycanthropy.

The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.

Pretty Poison Apples.
The sequel to Nativity of Chance, and that seasonal monarchs book I've been threatening to write forever. Stop looking at me like that. Status: researching.

Silver Slipper Blues.
The Ongoing Trials of Dorothy of Oz, book one. I'm blocking out the structure. I think this is a trilogy. More news to come, status: researching.

The Best Thing.
My deconstruction of the magical girl genre is a go! Status: eleven chapters (all of issues one and two, most of chapter three) done, rolling right along. We'll announce our artist soon.

There are lots of other books floating around here—some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started—but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll update this list from time to time, as things move from "project" to "print" and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

Still wish I could write as fast as you, not that it would have helped this week. Yes, still dealing with cats. Our tax return was randomly selected for audit. *head desk*

News for you since I mentioned it to you before: 3 of the cats are doing better. We're keeping them on wet food until that return shows up and we can get the dental work done (though they are nibbling at hard kibble; we just don't want to risk aggravating anything). Fourth kitteh is not doing so well, and after some discussion, we've decided to not prolong his torture. He goes in with daddy on Tuesday (which is when hubs has time off to deal with it). We'll continue to force feed and force water in him until then and try to make him as comfortable as possible, but the antibiotics didn't do anything for him, he's still not eating, and as far as we can tell, not using the kitteh box. We just can't put him through 4-6 weeks more of this even if he'd survive it (which we don't think he would). He's got this thing about being in sinks lately. o.O Hubs is devastated: this is the first cat he chose for himself. He called me and asked if I minded if he used his birthday money on a cat, which surprised me because he swears up and down he's not a cat person. Think I converted him.

Anyway, if you announced the winners of the second contest, I've been more than a bit distracted and missed it.

And on topic: I think I'm caught up with Toby, but I'm behind on InCryptid. Always nice to see more of them on your list. Planning to get to your ghost novel too.

But damn, girl, REALLY wish I could write this fast! lol
I am glad your cats are doing better.

I have already posted with the status of the second giveaway.
