Saturday morning fun-time updates!

Slasher Chicks shirts.

I have opened a new Slasher Chicks tank top sales post right over here. While I won't say with 100% certainty that there's not a shirt mistakenly shoved into a different box, so far as I am aware, the currently posted numbers represent all the remaining stock of this design. Once they're gone they're gone, unless I find a really good reason to reprint, and even if I do, that won't be happening for a year or more (probably more). So check it out! They're great, soft, fitted tanks, stretchy and comfy and cool.

But wait, there's more.

If you do decide to buy a tank top for yourself or as a Hogswatch gift, I will tell you to PayPal an email address, and ask you to send your mailing info via my contact form. What this means is that I need you to PayPal an email address, and send your mailing info via my contact form. My PayPal is connected to a very old email account that doesn't include a graphic mail client, and extracting shipping info from PayPal notifications is borderline impossible. Meaning I won't mail your shirt until I receive an email with your contact info.

More old ARCs!

I have some leftover ARCs of The Winter Long for the crafters and creative people of the world to claim and enjoy. Because they're heavy, I would prefer to only mail them domestically, as I will have to charge postage; basically, it would be cheaper to buy a new paperback and cut that up if you're in a country other than the US. (I say "prefer" because sometimes you really need an ARC for a specific craft. Like the friend in England who turned one of my ARCs into paper roses for her wedding bouquet.)

As I said above, I do need to charge postage this time, so it'll be $5 for an ARC to a US address, and postage to be determined for an ARC to anywhere else. I won't sign them; these are intended for craft use, not collectable use. Comment with your location if you want one.

Shirt status.

Still not on my doorstep.

Monster High status.

Looking for the entire Haunted Line, looking for all Gloom and Bloom except for Jane Boolittle, looking for Freaky Field Trip, not looking for Geek Shriek because fuck that line.

Cat status.

Puffy.

What's new and cool in the land of you?

New? Roof and driveway. Yay, home ownership! Boo, no $$ for shirts right now.

Cool? Canada. Brrrrrrr.
Winter is not coming. Winter is here.
How strange. My dog status is Puffy as well!

2014-10-07 15.22.30

(And now that the dog snuggling break is over, I must get back to writing All The Things.)
PUFFY!
I'm TAing for my mentor next quarter, who has the awesomely supervillainy name of Dr. Fadel (pronounced "fatal"), and I bought the Good Dog Carl omnibus as a Christmas present for my nephew, whose most commonly used word is "Doggie!" (He's also getting a plushie blue-ringed octopus and if he starts toddling around going "fhtagn!" with it, well, it's my brother's fault for reading Lovecraft to a one-year-old and I want video)
This is all fabulous.
What's up in the land of me? I'm enjoying solving some of my first world problems: new tires for my car, cookies for a birthday party, and collecting pumpkins for pie.
Rockin'.
Re ARC: USA! And there is a nonzero possibility that it will end up as a wedding bouquet. Flock of paper cranes is somewhat more likely. I do not know what my sister plans to do in that area, just that she is planning to buy many used books for craft purposes relating to her wedding, which will have a books-and-paper-cranes theme.

Re new and cool in the land of me: [personal profile] translucent_zine. There is, I hasten to say, nothing there yet, but it's going to be my creative project for the Arts Fellow distinction and transcript notation from my university, and it's going to be a multimedia Internet magazine to showcase art (fiction, poetry, essay, drawing, photo, spoken word, song, crochet pattern, etc etc etc) by QUILTBAG people, and it is going to be AWESOME.

Though it is going to be less awesome if I neglect my classwork, so I am going to stop procrastinating my Queer Studies classwork now. Foucault. Gah. Foucault is fucking impenetrable. Hate trying to read Foucault.
Awesome! Go ahead and PayPal me $5 to delirium@xocolatl.com, to cover postage, and send an email through my website contact form with your shipping details. If this is for a wedding, do you need two?

I am Epoxying All The Things and watching the heavens open up. (BIG month-long show opens the day after Thanksgiving, OMG.) And since it's going to be pouring all day, and my foot is in a boot from bunion surgery, I am going nowhere. Which is good. Because I Have to Epoxy All The Things.
All excellent.

Gigging a Tree Lighting with the Marching Abominable, hanging lights on my flute, and EL wires on my new & cheesy elf suit.
(seedandfeed.org)
Rockin'.
I am up to my eyeballs in Looming Deadlines (I'm looking at you, Postdoctoral National Research Service Award grant application due December 1st, and you, Vision Sciences Society Annual Meeting Abstract Deadline [December 4th]). I've been going full tilt since getting back from Boston late Monday night, and the next two weeks are going to basically be this without letup. Oh yes, and my GF is working towards the same abstract deadline, so when I'm not writing grant prose (which is an evil form of writing), I get to be very, very bored for Science.
Aw.

Poor bored Wombat.

The newest thing in the land of me is being over 46K words completed on NaNo; which will sadly not end at 50k. I have a feeling this story will go far beyond that, but I'm excited to be reaching the end of NaNo and reaching the goal.
GO TEAM YOU!!!!!
Heyo. We are gearing up for ChessieCon - Batya and Merav have a concert together, and Batya has a solo concert. Never done this con before, and travel on Turkey Weekend is sometimes crazy, so not sure what to expect. But I hope it goes well, and as I see you are slated to be there next year, we hope that we like it enough to return to greet you.

Otherwise, just the usual insanity. And we have joined the Baymax fan club.

Today's San Jose Mercury News had an article about a man with a tapeworm in his brain. It made me think of your PARASITE. (Said tapeworm was not reported to be sentient. It was removed and the man's medical issues went away.)
See, I have been quietly trying not to comment on that, just to see how many people will tell me about it. ;)

New for me is a successful attempt at making pumpkin pie filled hamentashen for a work thing. They went over really well.
Awesome!
Yesterday I learned that the song 'Space Girl' was originally by Peggy Seeger and Ewan Maccoll.
Which is cool, no?

No new MH dolls in UK as yet. I blame you (and two teenage daughters) for knowing more about this than a man my age probably should!
BTW Dawn pointed out that Charlaine Harris has The Winter Long as one of her 'books of the week', with a nice review on her website.
Charlaine is the best.
I found out this evening that I *think* I will be getting a new dog next week. A friend of a friend found him tied to a tree in the middle of a stand of woods out in the middle of nowhere, and they're relatively certain that based on how they found him, he was deliberately dumped rather than lost - he wasn't tangled, he was flat-out tied, and on the other side of a chain link fence that the rescuers had to bodily lift him over to get him out. I've been half-assedly looking for a second dog, preferably young, male, and either a hound mix or a bully-breed mix, and this fellow is all three. He's posted on a local lost pets board right now, but nobody expects an owner to show up - so I'll be taking him to foster after Thanksgiving (because bringing a new dog into the house right before I host a big festive shindig for 20+ people, including several small children, is not a good idea for anybody) and if all goes well, no owner shows up, and we don't have any issues between him and my current dog, then knock wood, he will be a permanent member of our household :)

I'm optimistic that all will go well - he's young, estimated right around a year old, and apparently very lovey. Didn't have any issues with other dogs so far, including a tiny excitable yorkie, and getting on with dogs that size bodes well for his ability to coexist with our cats. He seems to be at least partially housebroken, and the lady keeping him until I take him next week will be keeping me posted on his behavior and whatnot.
Oh, man.

People are the worst. I am so glad that you may be able to help him.
There will be a gathering of the faithful. Boxes will be opened and their goodness sorted. The faithful will stuff the goodness into envelopes and it will be good. There will be grilled meat (or roasted meat if it is raining) and other food items for the faithful to feast upon. And it will be good.
The faithful are excited.
A friend who backed a Kickstarter for a self-cleaning fish tank decided they didn’t want it, so we’re going to set it up for Yeti, who loved having a fishy to watch when a friend was in England for two weeks and needed someone to take care of a betta.

He took the idea of fish-sitting rather literally:

Like Lillian13, I am attempting to become an Epoxy Goddess, and would love more supplies to make one-of-a-kind creations! I'm seriously contemplating trying out the bangle mold, and how awesome would a The Winter Long bangle be? EPIC, I tell you. US addy and all that jazz.
The last of the artwork is out of the closet and up on the walls; the Feline Overlords disapprove of the change in their hiding place, but are delighted by all the paper scattered around the bedroom floor.

I am taking the train to visit friends on Tuesday, my first train ride since I was last in Scotland -- 10 years ago, OMG.

It poured this morning, and all the muck is washed out of the air. I can see the Olympics from my window! (The mountains, not the sporting event.)

New around here is Josh getting into the Disney magiclip princess dolls. We let him earn quarters for various things that we'd like to incentivize, and his most recent request for a purchase was one of the Anna and Elsa sets. Since he's still a little short of quarters, we bought the set and let him buy one of the two dolls while saving for the other. So part of this weekend involved him playing with Elsa, having her try on dresses, and making new ones out of Play-doh. He should have enough for Anna tomorrow, and is looking forward to that.

It is definitely Frozen o'clock around here much of the time. I've been working on a surprise for Josh and his daycare buddies by trying to learn a couple of the songs on the fiddle - and discovering that this project is going to stretch my skills a bit. But the looks on their faces when I get it should be well worthwhile. I play a song or three for them any morning I'm the one dropping Josh off at daycare, and have had "Let it Go" requested more than once, which inspired me to go buy sheet music and start trying to transpose it to something I can play relatively easily.
I love his Elsa dress so much.
I've been using this month to try to get back into writing. This has been moderately successful. The new World of Warcraft expansion hit on like, the thirteenth, and I'm afraid that totally derailed my Nano progress -- but! I still got almost 18k, plus whatever I write between now and the end of the month, and I now know that, barring shiny distracting things, I can keep up a regular writing pace... which is something I haven't been able to do in years. Since I'm looking to hopefully start self-publishing somewhere between January-March, this is a good thing. What's important now is that I continue the habits I've been developing over Nano, at least in regards to the almost-daily writing. I still don't write daily. Migraines happen, emotional stuff that needs to be addressed happens, spoons get spent on other things. It evens out, though. At least, when I'm not playing WoW like a madwoman who wants to see ALLLL THE STORY. And my personloverexpartnerthing is buying me Dragon Age Inquisition for Xmas. Eep.

I wish I had a good way to battle the "But I don't wanna"s. Because I've tried using games as the carrot on a stick, and I just end up feeling resentful and my writing quality drops drastically. It's very close to, if not in actuality, an autistic meltdown. (I'm on the spectrum.) I suppose I'm asking the commentariat just as much but does anyone else have suggestions? Literally the only thing I find is "use XYZ thing you want to do as a reward for doing ABC thing," and my brain rebels hardcore at that. *headdesk*
See, for me, the carrot is being able to check a thing off of my to-do list. I...don't suppose that would work for you at all?

Well, this past Friday, I went up to San Luis Obispo to watch the burlesque troop SLO Tease do their "Talk Nerdy to Me" show, because one of the dancers (Crocodile Tears) did a routine to my song Hey There Cthulhu. It was AWESOME! :D
Awesome!
If there is an ARC left I would love one.
What's your craft?
