THE WINTER LONG open thread!

To celebrate the release of The Winter Long, here. Have an open thread to discuss the book. Judging by the comments I'm seeing, some of you have had time, and I'd really, really rather book discussion (sometimes including spoilers) didn't crop up on other posts.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned. (I will not reply to every comment; I call partial comment amnesty. But I may well join some of the discussion, or answer questions or whatnot.) I will be DELETING all comments containing spoilers which have been left on other posts. No one gets to spoil people here without a label.

You can also start a discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence, since I always wind up getting involved in these things.

Have fun, and try not to bleed on the carpet.

I know, I'm just wondering whether Evening putting Toby in the path of a Hope Chest would have rendered Toby vulnerable to Evening if she was no longer a changeling. Wonderfully subtle if so.

I also wonder if the Roan (Sorry I've listened to all the Toby books on audio so far and I may misspell some words that are hard to google) were killed not just because they were happy but because a Roan predicted Evening's death at the hands of someone of Amandine's line (we've seen Mary exercise precisely that ability).

Evening is *exactly* the sort of person who would not only kill the messenger but try to wipe out their entire line and salt the earth afterwards (lazy but capable of the most almighty temper tantrums).
It's amazing that Evening/Eira has actually made Simon seem sympathetic. Sigh. She's now the only character I dislike more than I did Oleander and the fake Queen of the Mists (who still wonder about since she seemed so sea creature related and it's so easy to get into Dianda's kingdom).
