You don't have to be a genius, but it helps.

I am delighted to announce that my story, "Long Way Down," will be appearing in the anthology Genius Loci, along with a bunch of truly awesome authors and some really good friends.

This is a book of stories about place and connection to place. My story is about the creek I used to play in which I was a little girl, both as it really was, and as I always secretly believed that it could be. I'm really excited for you all to see it. But that's not the best part of this anthology for me.

Look at that table of contents. Look at all those new names, sandwiched between names you maybe know already. Look at the name "Sunil Patel." Look at the name "Caroline Ratajski." That's Sunil and Carrie, you guys. That's my Comic-Con roommate and my comic book slumber party buddy. Those are my friends, sharing an anthology with me, sharing a table of contents with me, and with Ken, and with Chaz, and with everybody.

Carrie and Sunil are great people. They're warm, generous, friendly, and have made me a better person by being a part of my life. And now I get to share a book with them.

How awesome is my life sometimes? I mean really, how awesome is my life?

Pretty awesome.

Rats. I went to pre-order it on Amazon, but it's not there yet.

I have always been aware of the spirits of places - in a few cases, I've had to leave a place quickly, because its spirit didn't like me. But this book, and your story, sound utterly fascinating, and I'm going to add it to my list as soon as that becomes possible. (Have you ever been to the New Jersey "Pine Barrens"?)

I just hope I can afford to contribute to the Kickstarter and buy the book when it comes out. I know I'll manage somehow, though, because it's Seanan, and I've got to read that story!

Well, Shattered Shields will be in my mailbox tomorrow or Friday, and Pocket Apocalypse</> will be in my mailbox the second week in March... and meanwhile there are other books with your stories in them that are on my wishlist, and my birthday and Yule both happen in December... I just have to pace myself somehow... :-)

Oh, wow! It's funny - my girlfriend and I drove from Davis -> Monterey today and back and we spent a large portion of the trip talking about spirits of places and how that's reflected in an author's work. (And how someone could probably get a dissertation out of comparing your look at Americana/the soul of America in Sparrow Hill Road, since you are a native, vs the transplant's view (Gaiman's) in American Gods). I look forward to reading this anthology!
