Time for class: "The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell" available now!

The Rising only lasted for three years. The repercussions will last forever. For Elaine Oldenburg, those repercussions are about to change everything.

"The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell" is available now from most ebook outlets. This Newsflesh-universe story fills in a piece of the past that has previously been left hidden, for good reason. Join Elaine as she tries to get her students out of an outbreak alive, and without casualties. (Try not to read the blurb on the landing page, as it's way spoilery.)

She's not going to save them all.

I'm really excited about this one. It's a story I've wanted to tell for quite some time, and it pulls no punches, which is always nice for me, since I fancy myself a horror author. Better yet, it will prepare you for what's to come. (It will also help feed my cats. As always, a major concern.)

This will also serve as your discussion post.

Oh my goodness, I read this yesterday after work and it terrified me (in a good way!). I was sipping a cup of tea when I started reading and had to stop because I wasn't sure if I was shaking all over because I was scared or because I'd had too much caffeine to drink that day, and I didn't want to take chances.
Eep!
I am late to the party commenting on this post, but I just finished "The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell." I absolutely love everything you've done in the Newsflesh world. I'm always completely and totally sucked in and emotionally involved in the best way which is great because it offers me a much-needed respite from my crazy day-to-day life. I am an avid reader (and purchaser!) of your books and music. Thank you for putting such amazingness out into the world!
You're so welcome!
Joss Whedon has a leaf on the wind

Seanan takes a leaf throws it through a chipper stitches it back together puts it on a burn pile, and uses its ashes to create a poison for trees like it....

Donmt think I'm going to sleep just yet...
Absolutely loved it!
You, ma'am, do not pull any punches.

It's terrific, of course; I loved the interplay between the story and the meta-story, the correspondence. But as the mother of a child who will be in kindergarten in a year or so, OMG, that was disturbing as fuck.

:-)
Punches are not meant to be pulled!

I'm glad you liked it. :)
I enjoyed this story a lot. It was brutal, which worked for me.

Was anyone else surprised there were no "George" children in this story? Or has Mira/Seanan provided explanation, if relevant?

I've been rereading the earlier Newsflesh short fiction and then coming back to "Show and Tell," but am waiting until this Wednesday for "San Diego 2014."
Mostly I got tired of people complaining about how people re-use names, and so didn't want to deal with it yet again.
Finished reading this yesterday while traveling. FANTASTIC as usual. It was heartbreaking, horrifying, and the reveal just in the middle of who Elaine became.... damn. Fabulous. Thank you.
Very welcome!
