Velveteen is a thing I do for free, with no one paying me, free. In between the cracks in my paying work. I love that people love it, and that's a lot of why I've continued doing it. But the second it starts to feel like an obligation, it's over.

I like all of it! But I particularly like the section that starts "It is sometimes easy to forget" and ends "Maybe we would lose fewer children to the cold." To me it adds an atmosphere of true fairy tale to the whole story.

(Oh God, has Jackie been erased from the Season?!) I know, I know, spoilers! I must wait for my answer.

Winter is my favorite season (and I fervently wish it were Winter now, instead of just past Midsummer; is it possible to die of perspiration?). Trust Velveteen to make it stranger than I ever expected. Velveteen has more balls than an entire squad of Marines... something the denizens of Winter seem to have forgotten...

There are no novels; there are two collections of previous short stories, which I highly recommend, because they're amazing, but they aren't singular novel-length stories. :)

Either way, I enjoyed this. Always glad to have more Velveteen and winter. Even in the absence of Jackie, whom I adore.

They're not meant to be, but I think some winter symbolism is so universal that it can't be avoided, really.

Oh, Velveteen... Her stories are always so lovely, and often so sad. I'm enjoying this section especially because I'm a Montana girl currently living in California, and I miss the Winter so much! It was usually my favourite season. :)

I'm also wondering if the Snow Queen's outfit is going to change in response to the Frozen mania, which I know is not within the world of the story, but it's so true...

Yipe. Well, I can see one possible consequence of this that would give Vel another reason to choose no season at all. (And it's the least-worst consequence I can think of O.o).

Unexpected Velveteen is the best :)

This is so great. :) I loved it. And I feel... concerned, if not sympathetic, towards Winter, if that makes sense.

I kind of feel sorry for the denizens of Winter. Still, they pissed her off, and she does not seem inclined to... well, thaw. Not that I blame her.

Oh WOW. This was wonderful and suspenseful and oh my gosh. Winter really is making some serious mistakes with Velveteen, but I have to wonder how many of those mistakes are ones that Winter can't help but make, being what it is. I'm so afraid for Jackie, and for Vel, and even for the Snow Queen, Jack, and Santa. And Lucy's fascinating.

Sheesh, though, Aurora wants Velveteen's anger? Careful what you wish for...

So happy you gave us this. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

(...This also reminds me that my hardcopies of the two Velveteen volumes have been stuck on backorder with Amazon for what feels like forever. Must go see if my local bookstore can order them direct, and if so, get that done, for I want the hardcopies like Winter wants Velveteen and Velveteen wants a big ol' Winter-whomping bat, yes....)

Oh, wow -- very happy to see a new Velveteen story!

I love how you get across both Vel's very justified anger and concern for the rest of Winter's spirits. Were they trying to be assholes? Not really. Does that matter at the moment to Vel? Not really.

Huh. There's no really good way to say "yay, I'm enjoying everyone's agony!" is there? But I am! :)
