One week to SPARROW HILL ROAD.

One week from today, Sparrow Hill Road will be on bookstore shelves everywhere, and you will finally be able to learn the tale of Rose Marshall as she always intended it to be told.

According to my file dates, "Pretty Little Dead Girl," the song that introduced most people to Rose, was written on December 17th, 2004. The first story appeared in The Edge of Propinquity in January of 2010. Six years to get from song to story, and that wasn't the end of it. Those original stories have been rewritten and revised and ripped up and ripped away until their bones showed through, and now, on May 6th, 2014, you finally get to see the actual shape of things. It only took a little under ten years.

According to Publishers Weekly, which got a few of the facts of Rose's complicated origin wrong, but got the feeling right...

"McGuire (the InCryptid series) brings empathy, complexity, and a shivering excitement to this well-developed campfire tale. Many stories have been told about a hitchhiker, a young woman—sometimes dressed in a prom dress or jeans and a T-shirt—who roams the highways in search of a ride. Rose Marshall is that hitcher, also known as the Ghost of Sparrow Hill Road. Rose has two purposes: one is helping the newly dead make the transition between states, and the other is hunting down Bobby Cross, the man who killed her in order to gain immortality. This is the story of her death, and her life. This mesmerizing tale had its beginnings in the short story The Edge of Propinquity; McGuire has smoothly turned it into a powerful blend of ghost story, love story, and murder mystery, wrapped in a perfectly neat package."

One week.

Rose is finally almost home.

*squee* I won an ARC at the Incryptid party, and am trying to convince the DM of my weekly Car Wars game to get a copy so we can work elements into our game. So excited for the release party - me and a bunch of friends are coming, and we can't wait!
Oh, that should be awesome!

I'm planning to go to the Brick-and-mortar store and buy a copy or three that first week. I've been looking forward to these versions for a while now.

(Yes, it was tempting to save a copy of the original versions, since they WERE enjoyable reads on The Edge Of Propinquity and I also enjoy the "Where did they come from" game, seeing the evolution through various stages. But I honored your request that we not do that, and shortly I'll have the Improved Versions in my hot little hands, and I know the wait will have been worth it.)
Thank you so much for honoring my request. Those original stories include some things that are no longer canon.
Amazon says my copy, which I pre-ordered way back last October, will be delivered sometime between May 9 and May 13. It just ocurred to me that, even though I paid for it myself, I could consider it my Mother's Day present.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know Rose better!

Happy Mother's Day!

Looking forward to seeing the changes you've made to Rose's story, I really liked the original versions. And a whole new story as well!

I CAN'T WAIT.
GLEE.
I'm in grad school and I cannot keep up with your books! I'm behind by two In-Cryptids, Indexing, and soon to be Rose Marshall. Looks like it'll be an all-Seanan summer reading list!
Woot!

EEEEeeeeeee! Yay for a new Seanan book.

Thank you for telling us the Pretty Little Dead Girl story. My mom loves that song, for both the catchy beat and the juxtaposition of that to the lyrics.

Edited to add: Your new book showed up in a banner advertisement from GoodReads for "Hot picks for May" when I was on the computer of a friend (who doesn't read your stuff). Apparently Rose Marshall's cover photo is the picture from which ad-clicks are made.
Dude that is AWESOME.
Pre-ordered the audio book, and shivering with excitement! I swear there is a whole herd of bunnies jumping over my grave, or I'm just no good with patience. Probably the latter ;)
Hee hee hee.
Oooh. I am excited.
Me, too.
So excited for this!!!!!!
Me, too!
I've already told a couple people that the physical copy is all I want in the world for my birthday. Then I couldn't resist and pre-ordered the digital copy so that I could read it RIGHT AWAY as soon as possible!

SO MUCH EXCITE!:D
This makes me happy.
Yay! I'm cashing in Southwest miles just to be able to go to the launch party at Borderlands. It doesn't hurt that Valour and Vanity's bok tour hits the next day.
Oh, that is awesome.
Yay!
Glee.
Yay!!!! :)
I am well-pleased.
I never got to read the originals, but I am SO EXCITED because I met Rose in The Ghosts of Bourbon Street and I loved her. I can't wait to get to know her! :D
I love her so much you don't even know.
My pre-ordered copy arrived last week, & much wootage ensued.
Yay.
