Guess who's going to Germany?

Filk Continental happens in Germany. It happens in a castle. It is one of the only filk cons I have never attended, because it is very far away, and up until recently, I have had very limited vacation time.

It's still far away. But this year, I'm going...and I'm going as their Special Guest! Yes! After a year off, Filk Continental is gloriously returning, with Vixy & Tony as their Guests of Honor, and me as their Special Guest. A German appearance! A fantastic party! A glorious time!

October 3rd through 5th: the website and details are here: http://www.filkcontinental.de/fc/home/index.php.

I'm so excited!

I wish you much fun in the heart of Germany. I also wish I could meet you, we German fans have rarely the opportunity. But I'm living in Munich and might not have the time to visit the Con. :) Still, if you have questions you can always ask.
Yay! Enjoy!
Have fun.

The Tangers were the Interfilk guests at Conchord last year (which was combined with Conjecture). As the Conjecture chair, I got to meet them. They are very nice - and good signers as well.
We're sadly not IN a castle anymore, this year, just near one (with view :)). "Our" castle is under new management, and unfortunately we did not work well together in our last year there. But the new 'music house' is awesome and the nearby village extremely idyllic.

Beat me to it!
Wunderbar!
"W00t!", sez I.

This is what we call "symbiotic." You are lucky to get to go there, and they are lucky to have you.

Hals- und Beinbruch!

ETA: Don't mention the war!
Congrats! ^_^
good deal! :)
Happy for you!
Incidentally, I love your icon ;)
So how does one say "can I have a Diet Dr. Pepper please" in German?
Not, sadly, because there is no DDP in Germany. We will have to import it I guess :)
Oh, that is so wonderful!
ROCK. ON! That is so awesome for you!
Great news! Have fun!
OMG OMG OMG. You are so going to LOVE Germany. Spatzle is yummy and so are Ritter Sport chocolate bars, so many good things to eat and drink, so many friendly people who are happy to visit, so MANY WONDERFUL THINGS!!!!! And their jackalopes have wings.
So excited to (hopefully) see you there! :-)
Lovely! Cons are so much fun.
Oh, marvelous!

Every story you tell about this con needs to end with "...and it was in a castle!" :-)
Congratulations! You are a fine filkist, and it's great that you're going.

Let me offer you some useful German phrases* for your visit.

Ein bier, bitte.
"One beer, please."

Bear in mind that in Germany, they start counting with the thumb, not the forefinger - so if you're asking for one beer, hold up your thumb; if you're asking for two (zwei bier, bitte) hold up your thumb and forefinger.

Ich denke den Bier ist besser ins Osterreich.
"Yes, draft beer is fine."

Seine bier ist schwach und weiblich.
"This is an excellent beer."

It's important to praise the beer; they take their beer quite seriously.

Wo ist die Toilette?
"Where is the toilet?"

In Germany, "bathroom" and "toilet" are not the same thing - potentially if you ask "Where is the bathroom?" you might get directed to a room with a bathtub and no toilet.

Links
"Left"
Rechts
"Right"
Geradaus
"Forward"

Directional words, always useful when asking for directions - what's the point if you can't follow the answer?

Ich bin Auslander und sprechen nicht gut Deutsch.
"I am a foreigner and do not speak German very well."

Ich mochte ein Glas Mineralwasser.
"I would like a glass of mineral water."

Ich mochte is the proper way to order an item; substitute whatever you want in place of ein Glas Mineralwasser. You're likely going to get the article wrong, but they're probably used to it. Also, I'm told that in Germany they don't habitually drink still water, especially not tap water, and beverages are not generally served with ice. Mineral water is a pretty safe neutral beverage to request, if you don't want to have a beer.

Dies schmecte als Holle.
"This tastes wonderful."

Was ist dies? Scheiss?
"I'm sorry, I thought I ordered something else."

Mein Luftkissenfahrzeug ist voller Aale.
"I need to call a cab."

Da ist einer Parasit in meiner Gehirn, und es sagt mir bringen Sie um.
"Would you please call the police?"

* - I take no responsibility for you taking any of these seriously. However, if you do use them, I'd like video of the resultant... "event".
