Skate for your life, and hide your knives.

Happy February! Have some free fiction.

You've had a glimpse of Antimony's time with the Slasher Chicks, but how did it start? Everyone has to strap on their skates for the first time sometime, because otherwise there'd be no one on the track at all. For Antimony Price, that first time came shortly after high school graduation, when she thought she had no other choices.

You know the result, since clearly she joins the team, but getting there is half the fun and more than half the battle. It's time to find out where it all started.

Let's jam.

You can download "Blocked" now from the InCryptid short fiction page. Since this story is chronologically the first starring Antimony, it should stand reasonably well on its own, providing you have any familiarity with the InCryptid setting. (If you don't, there's a lot of short fiction set earlier in the world continuity also posted on that page. Enjoy!)

This also serves as your discussion post.

OK, McGuire. Mike SumNoyz here. Read the story. I could quibble with some of the details of derby, but I know reality doesn't always work to support good narrative. Only Antimony Price could get into derby without going through Fresh Meat training. Anybody else would be a danger to herself and the others on the track. But we both know that you get the important things about derby completely right, the people and the community. Next LA trip, if you can spare a Sunday, I'll talk to ACDG's media rep and we'll see if we can get you in to our warehouse to meet some skaters and officials and watch practice.

Oh, and good job. Solidly good story.
We had eight girls out of thirty who showed up to fresh meat on Saturday who got pulled aside and just did mad skills and they're all getting jumped ahead to I think at least yellow star, so maybe since Antimony had skated loads when she was younger and was still fit from cheerleading she did that? I don't know if that's a thing you do in the States though. To be honest I don't even know if it's a thing that's done outside of our league; I'm just a fledgling NSO.
Yeah, I knew I was compressing things, but it was necessary for narrative. I'm glad you liked it!
