Current projects, October 2013.

Every month I make a post to tell folks what I'm working on, a) because it seems polite, b) because it keeps me accountable, if only to myself, and c) so you will understand why I do not have a social life. This is the October 2013 current projects post. These posts differ from the Inchworm Girl posts in that they elaborate on what I am currently doing, but do not list publication dates or appearances.

To quote myself, being too harried to say something new: "These posts are labeled with the month and year, in case somebody eventually gets the bizarre urge to timeline my work cycles (it'll probably be me). Behold the proof that I don't actually sleep; I just whimper and keep writing."

Please note that all books currently in print are off the list, as are those that have been turned in but not yet printed (Parasite, Half-Off Ragnarok). The Winter Long and Symbiont are off the list because it's finished and in revisions with the Machete Squad. The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. I have horror movies and terrible things from the swamp to keep me company.

Not everything on this list has been sold. I will not discuss the sale status of anything which has not been publicly announced. If you can't remember whether I've announced something, check the relevant tag, or go to my website, at www.seananmcguire.com. Please do not ask why project X is no longer on the list. I will not answer you.

***

Pocket Apocalypse.
InCryptid, book four. Paranormal romance/urban fantasy, modern setting, first-person protagonist. The second of the two books focusing on and narrated by Alex Price. Status: moving right along, middle of chapter two.

A Red-Rose Chain.
October Daye, book nine. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. I can't say much about this book yet, since you're now all two books behind me, but it's gonna be fun. Status: outlining.

Still Catch the Tide.
YA UF about selkies, families, love, consequences, storage units, antique malls, and the sea. Yes, I have permission from Talis to use that title, and yes, if I can write and sell it, she will be coming to perform at the book release party. Status: outlined, preparing to begin.

Echo.
Echo, book one. YA science fiction about parallel universes. Sort of Fringe meets The OC. With mathematicians and science, because I'm still me. Status: in outlines, getting ready to write the sample chapters.

Sit, Stay, I Hate You.
Coyote Girls, book two. Young adult horror/paranormal romance, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Having survived the events of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues, Clady would really like it if her life would settle down and get, y'know, easy for a little while. Clady is not going to be terribly happy with me, either. Status: officially paused, because at this point I need to go back and end-to-end revise Lycanthropy.

Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues.
Coyote Girls, book one. Status: prepping for end-to-end revision.

The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.

Pretty Poison Apples.
The sequel to Nativity of Chance, and that seasonal monarchs book I've been threatening to write forever. Stop looking at me like that. Status: researching.

Silver Slipper Blues.
The Ongoing Trials of Dorothy of Oz, book one. I'm blocking out the structure. I think this is a trilogy. More news to come, status: researching.

There are lots of other books floating around here—some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started—but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll update this list from time to time, as things move from "project" to "print" and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

On some of the books there when the status changes to writing from researching I think I'll be doing a happy dance...they just sound so interesting ;-)
Aw, yay.
The titles alone sound intriguing. :)
Waiting status change from "Working on" to "Done".
Why thank you. :)
You always have such shiny things in the works. Also, if you get Still Catch the Tide published, we'll be at that release party if humanly possible no matter how insane it makes our schedule for whenever that is. :) (crosses fingers)
Yay!
All of these books sound like so much fun. I can't wait to hear what comes of them.
Thank you!

Yes, I have permission from Talis to use that title, and yes, if I can write and sell it, she will be coming to perform at the book release party.

My first thought on reading that was, "there's a party I'd fly cross-country for".

My second thought (after seeing groblek's comment) was "Borderlands is gonna need a bigger store..."
Yeah, that may well be a "we need to do two events and clear the room between them" situation, because damn.
You were mentioned in this awesomely satirical post by Jim Hines in which he puts sexism in writing on blast.
Jim is best.
Word.
NofC and SSB sound rather intriguing. I'm going to have to hack through a chunk of my TBR pile to make room for them, though...

I think I'll start hacking away with Velveteen vs. the Multiverse and the Newsflesh series. :)
Yay!
If you are really posting this to be polite, you might want to re-read it.
I'm not sure what you mean. I have re-read the post, and it seems factual, accurate, and not rude to me. I'm sorry if you do not feel the same.
