Children don't belong in forests; that's where the bad things go. INDEXING episode #11 is now live!

It's here! It's here! The eleventh episode of Indexing is now live!

With only one episode left to go, things are moving faster than ever. Episode eleven, "Scarlet Flowers," is ready for you to enjoy.

This post serves as both your reminder and discussion thread. In addition, there is one episode remaining (in two weeks), so now's the time to hop on board: remember that a purchase now saves you a dollar. Not too shabby! (Please do not comment to complain about Indexing not being available in your region. I am so very sorry that it isn't everywhere, but I have no power over that. You'll only make me sad.)

Once upon a time...

I think I just screamed a little at the newest chapter. OMG, Henry and Gerry and the breakfast bit and the Sleeping Beauty-- holy crap, I love this and it's awesome and I'm just going to hug this and cry and that lovely lovely bit that you tossed in there-- it makes me so incredibly happy. SO SO happy. I just... *pauses* Thank you.
I don't know which bit you mean, so I shall just say thank you, and you're welcome, and Gerry is splendid. He's a good guy.

Ahhhhh! (I just got to the end of this installment)

Also, I really, really love Sloane. I like all the characters in this story, but she's far and away my favorite.
I'm so glad.
I'm not even done with the installment, but I just hit Gerry - and I had to say *thank you*. Thank you for making it normal and a neat plot point. You have further reinforced your awesomeness.
it's also a very interesting plot point. I'm actually kinda sad he only shows up in the last couple of chapters because that is quite a dilemma to have to figure out!

(And like Jeff, I was all, "Hey, that's one way to try to thwart a fairy tale...")

HOLY CATFISH THAT'S A FULL-ON MAGIC VERSION! D:O

(Mind, where else could you get full-on magic if not surrounding a building full of full-on magic types...)

So why isn't it hitting Sloane...

(I think this is one of the few times I've hit the discussion thread and the chapter at the same time. *facepalm*)
Magic happens, it's just...harder.
OMG, what a cliffhanger! Excellent!
In the midst of trying to plan a cross country move to the Bay area, with 900lbs of panic and fear, this is a bright spot of momentary ease.
Thank you! And more kudos for Gerry and more YAYSLOANE!

I would be more coherent, but my braincells are limited and tasked with planning and fretting abt Making This Work. :)
Thanks again!
Welcome to the Bay Area!

Gerry is awesome. Sloane is awesome. Henry and Jeff are yay!cute. And the end of this chapter is Meeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
An excellent summation.
I can't wait to see how you tie this all up in just one more episode.
Thank you!
Ermegerd.

More team breakfasts, yes! SLOANE. I less than three her. And Gerry--[yay!]

Sad that next episode is the last. (Hope there will be another 'season.']
There will be another season if sales support it. So...tell your friends!
This is one of the reasons I love your work - Gerry isn't considered odd by anyone. Add a 'holy shit' cliffhanger, and this has been my favorite episode so far :)
Yay!
i finished in a half an hour last night. and there was flailing.
Hooray!
SPOILERS HEREIN

So I think the main question is, Will Sloane straight up murder the Sleeping Beauty? I'd be seriously considering it in her place. She's alone, the Bureau itself has been compromised, who knows how many agents may have been outside the field of effect that she could reach, etc. Will she try for what seems like the quickest and most certain solution? I think the only thing that will hold her back is the idea that, if she starts killing people, she may not be able to stop.
I think that, for Sloane, that is a legitimate and serious fear.
Effing brilliant! Wow! Totally did NOT see that coming.

It might even find its way into the last verse...yes, the same last verse which I still haven't finished!
Yay!
Omg, I love Gerry. And I love Gerry and Sloane. And team breakfasts. And everything about this chapter. Am ALL THE EXCITE for the next episode, if a bit sad because last episode.

But

CLIFFHANGER. SEANAN, WHY.

*just lies down on the floor*
Because cliffhangers go naturally with season finales!

ahhh Sloane is happy!!! i hope this last it will be good for her, but that sleeping beauty was put there for a reason , i hope it end up well. Also Henry said yes to Jeff, yes!!!! I can't wait for the next chapter and its the last one T . T
At least for a while, yes.
Love the new chapter, as usual with all your stuff. Looking forward to the finale very much. It's been tiding me over until Parasitology.

There is one thing that troubles me, though. Is that what you really think of conservatives, that they're automatically childbeating bigots? That's how it came across to me. Am I just reading too much into that part? It brought me back to Governor Tate from Feed. He came across as if he was going to put a hood on and burn a cross at any moment. I had passed him off as a typical over-the-top villain stereotype, but now I can't help but wonder. I would appreciate hearing any thoughts you have on it.

Thanks again!
I don't automatically think that any conservative is a childbeating bigot, no. My family is from (among other places) Indiana, and we're plenty conservative, fiscally. I do think that right now, "conservative" is used for both fiscal and social conservatives, and those are really two very different things. "I want government to be small and not taxing me to the point that I'm working myself to death for someone else" is extremely different from "gay marriage is a sin and transsexuals can be cured," which is unfortunately a party line I've heard quite a lot in recent years.

I'll note that in Feed, Ryman is a fiscal conservative and socially neutral in the way of true small government: what you do in your own home is between you, your parents, and your God, and if he regulates it, he's expanding the size of the government unnecessarily. Tate is also actually fairly socially liberal, because of his time, and is intentionally playing certain things up "for the camera" because he wants people to buy the stereotype.

I do think that shitty people exist on all sides of the political spectrum. In this case, it was someone who hated unnatural things, and was socially and fictionally (as in, opposed to fictional things) conservative. For him, Gerry was a deviation too far.

I do have positive conservatives in my work, and I don't think I've had any really "oh man wow this person is best because they're liberal BEST" characters. I am extremely socially liberal and fiscally conservative myself, if that helps you see where I stand.
I've spent much of the past few months writing about transgender oppression, so this chapter made me even happier than it would have otherwise.
I am so glad.
Gerry is totally awesome.

Also, the team breakfast pretty much made my day.

And the ending of this chapter! aaaaaaaaaa! *cue gnashing of teeth*

Can't wait to read more. This whole series has been a delightful rollercoaster.
I'm so glad you're enjoying it.
In addition to everyone else's general Gerald squee, I'd like to add...

Thank you for showing him not just as normal but fighting daily for his normalcy, and having valid terrors about how the narrative could disproportionately fuck with that.

And for neither making him hypersexual or asexual and oh my GOD Sloane, a janitor's closet? Of course a janitor's closet.

Re cliffhanger, GO SLOANE GO SLOANE GO SLOANE GO SLOANE GOOOOOOOOOOOO
You are so welcome.
I cannot WAIT to read the ending. I cannot BEAR for it to end.

In other words, I am super happy and excited and love the story.

And I've no idea how you can wrap it up in just one more installment, but when the day comes, I'll find out! :)
So soon!
