Serious sound-absorbing lining on the room surfaces, for one. Also, Pied Piper. I think she has to play some sort of instrument to be effective; singing is for sirens which are another story?
Not sure; my college folklore class is lost in the mists of the last century.
Nope, that theory doesn't work. They tied her up tighter because, they said, she could potentially control animals/people/whatever even by tapping out a rhythm with her feet. Also, when they had her beside the van, she was gagged and bound, but still in the open, and if she had hummed, any animals which hadn't been caught in the bomb (and I'm assuming not ALL of the animals in the area fit inside the house with the bomb) would have heard her.
So... If even foot-tapping from her was so dangerous... Then why couldn't she have just hummed? I would think humming is a lot closer to fluting than tapping is.
