A poll of sorts.

Who here has read Cabal, by Clive Barker, or seen the movie based on the book (which was titled Nightbreed)?

Comment amnesty is on, this is a fact-finding expedition.

I saw the movie in a theater years ago and not since. I did read the novella (which I own in a few forms) before I saw the movie, but haven't reread it in a while.

Oh, is this for the Nightbreed antho? I saw Barker had posted about it on FB.
Seen the movie twice, because I couldn't believe it was based on the short story the first time I saw it - I had read the story first, several years before, and then someone said the movie was based on it, watched the movie, was confounded, reread the story, and then watched it again and could see how it was. Still was never one of the movie adaptations that I liked as a movie adaption. (I can like a movie adaptation as it's own movie, but still be unhappy that it's likely to be the only way that the original print version gets brought to the screen).

I remember reading the book when it was first released. I've seen the movie a couple of times. The Epic division of Marvel put out a comic book based on it in the early 90s. It lasted about two dozen issues. I remember collecting it - big monster fan, so it was a given I'd pick it up.
All of the above, and some of the comic series as well.
Could you send me an email through my website, do you think?

Saw the movie in theaters, read the story, bought it on VHS, and upgraded it to DVD. And... hmm... damn its been a while. I think I can still describe the plot. I remember I liked it, but not sure if it was for the story or just for the cool monsters and their world.

Watched the movie ages ago, have a bunch of friends who adore it, and I think Convolution's doing some event with it in november.
I've read the book and own the original cut of the movie. I'm looking forward to the Cabal cut.
Haven't read Cabal, but saw a screening of Nightbreed at the recent HPLovecraft FilmFest & CthuhluCon at Portland's Hollywood Theater.
Haven't read Cabal but I'm a fan of Nightbreed. I need to hunt down the elusive director's cut.
I went to watch NIGHTBREED at the movies when I was 17, and was captivated so much that I bought and read CABAL right away. I absolutely love this story. It was my first introduction to Clive Barker and after that I fell in love with his work. He has a very visceral (raw) way of telling stories, and this one was amazing. :)
I have. I thought it was one of the more bizarre of Barker's novels; I didn't sympathize with the protagonists, and had the distinct feeling of being on the outside looking in from start to finish. Overall, not a pleasant reading experience.
Read the book long, long ago when it first came out. Named my first MUD character after it.
I have neither read or seen them.
Read Cabal, haven't seen Nightbreed.
Seen the film, have a copy of the book but never read it.
I haven't read the book, but I saw the film many years ago. I don't remember much about it now other than I really liked it.
Read the book and watched the movie. Loved both. Plan to re-read the book again soon because there's that thing I maybe want to try out and write for :-D.
Definitely read it, though don't remember it too well at the moment.
Saw the film, loved the film, wrote a song (Tribes of the Moon, used to gig it with the Beasts, many years ago). Had for a while a book of the film telling the story in storyboards - not at all the same as 'I read the book', of course. Also had once the book of the residents of Midian, with detailed and disturbing pictures and backstories of many of the monsters - many more than were named or properly 'met' in the film.

When we dream, we dream of being smoke, or of flying... :-)

Um. I clearly carry a lot more memory of that world and its inhabitants than I had guessed, given the intervening years... thank you for the reminder. And if I find the song in rough anywhere I'll send it you for fun.

T xx

God is an astronaut, Oz is over the rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters go.

I have! I'm so happy that Tom Smith's awesome song PQR piques interest in that film/book.
Is it bad that I've loved that song for going on 20 years and had no idea it was specifically about Peloquin?

I have read the book and seen the movie.
Yes to both.

I've always regretted not getting the Nighbreed Chronicles book, that had backstories of many of the nightbreed.
Saw the movie, read the comics back in the day.
===Have read the story and send the movie. I like both quite a bit.
===...seen. SEEN the movie. Arg. Autocorrect is out to rewrite the world....
Both. But a very long time ago.
