What's red and white and carries a badge?

Fairy tales are not friendly things. They're dangerous wastelands filled with people who would slit your throat for a magic bean...and the idea that they stopped happening just because we grew up and moved out of the deep dark forest is ludicrous. The narrative has been here all along, watching us, waiting for the moments when we give it opportunity to strike.

There's no such thing as "happy ever after." There's only "once upon a time."

I am delighted to announce that, beginning May 21st, my first serial novel will be publishing on the Kindle via 47North. With a new chapter every two weeks, Indexing will follow the brave women and men of the ATI Management Bureau as they try to protect the everyday world from the predatory stories that are lurking just beyond the edge of sight.

You can see the gritty details here.

With hardships and horrors aplenty, Indexing is a fusion of fairy tale and modern police drama, sort of a "Once Upon a Time meets Criminal Minds" elevator pitch of a story. It's been a lot of fun to write, and the price point is excellent for a new story every two weeks. The print edition will be out in December for those of us who don't do Kindle.

I'm very excited to have the opportunity to tell this story. I hope you'll like it as much as I do.

Ordered :)
Yay!
Mwahahahahahaha!
(Ordered).
Yay!
Congrats to you for this, and fabulous for us that we get to enjoy more of your awesome, awesome storytelling! Just bought it, and I'll likely pick up the print edition in December as well.
That rocks.
Awesome! I probably won't follow this as a serial, despite having a Kindle, but I will definitely pick up the print edition come December! Keep us posted on the details of that!
I will! I always do. :)
Out of curiosity, and if it isn't spoilery to answer, will this be more like releasing abook two chapters a month or will it be a set of linked stories (like The Human Division was)?

Sort of in the middle of the two. Starting out as linked stories, growing more and more connected as the "season" goes on.

Things that play with fairy tales and folklore are my favorite thing, and written by you? Eeeee! I'm so excited!
Yay!

Hooray!
Well this just means I'll have to prioritize getting the Kindle app for my iPhone, as my eReader is a Nook. Done and done!
Yay!
I can't wait to read this in December! /marks calendar
Glee.
Aaaaaaawesome. Pre-ordered.

I'm excited about the serial format! I think it will be delicious fun times. And of course, the blurb sounded amazing. Whee!
I am pleased!
Oh, this should be a treat for obsessivewoman!

Just last night I wash wishing I had a new book of your to read, and frankly, feeling a little greedy. So now, my wishes have been granted. Hmm, as long as there are no monkey paws in the serial I should be ok.
DUN DUN DUUUUN.
Squeee!

Coherence around here somewhere, not sure where....

SO looking forward to this. You brought us more shinyshiny! *bounce*
Yay!
Yay! You really are destined for all my spare monies, whenever I have them. :)
I am glad. :)
Since Darcy and I are NOOK not Kindle we'll be waiting for the print edition. If it's not an Amazon publication I can even stock it in my store when it's available. If it is....well, we'll have a copy and I can suggest it to customers. :) (Melissa)
This makes perfect sense. :)
Is there a reason you're using the AT instead of the ATU? :) Just messin' with you, I've been over at the wikipedia entry for the Tale Type Index and the Talk page is amazing.

We've pre-ordered, I can't pass up that much actual folkloristics :)

Can I ask what classes you took at Berkeley in Folklore? I took Forms and Narrative, and a independent study (to avoid having to take technique in any other part of anthro and collect some folklore, interpret it and write a paper for Dundes? Easy-peasy!). And a class in the German department on Carnival. I was only there two years, I wish I'd had more time. I graduated in 1990, so I'm a bit out of the loop these days :)
I'm using the AT over the ATU as a primary source because I own a full AT, and that makes my reference work easier. :)

I did Forms and Narrative! And buckets more, because that was my major. But this was back in 1997, so it's been a while.

You made me preorder an ebook. You made me preorder an ebook serial.

I hope you're pleased with yourself!

(In fact, I hope that in a couple months' time, you're giggling all the way to the bank! O:D )
I am very pleased with myself, yes. :)
So exciting.

Please remember to sleep.
I am trying!

Yay!
Oooh, this looks awesome.

I suppose I will have to read it on my computer, though, as I have a Nook. (Or snag me one of them Nook-to-Android cards, and use the Amazon platform from there... Hmm...)
Or wait for the print version!

I'm a bit sad that I won't be able to read it as soon as it comes out, but the Kindle serial fiction thing would be very bad for my bank account, and it'll be nicer to have a print version in December as a reward for all my Christmas preparations :) (possibly also as Christmas presents...)
The $2.99 price point gets you the entire book, not one story. The file will just get longer as the stories are released, and you only pay once.

Which isn't to say that the print version won't be an excellent Christmas gift to yourself or to anyone else. I'm just here to tempt you into reading it as soon as you can. :)
