Ten things make a list, a list makes a post.

10. I haven't been posting much recently, and I'm sorry. I could make a lot of excuses, but at the end of the day, it boils down to one thing: I'm tired. I had a lot of deadlines hit all at once, and I've been spending the time that would normally go to blogging trying to "recharge my batteries" by doing things like cleaning out my inbox and re-dressing my many, many dolls. And on the one hand, I feel sort of like I'm failing you guys through my radio silence. But on the other hand, I feel like you'd rather have me alert and peppy than gloomy and drooping, so it'll all come out in the wash. Right?

9. Vericon was lovely; Boston was not, so much, since New England observes this season called "winter," and they celebrate it by leaving huge heaps of snow everywhere. Ev. Ery. Where. There were literally heaps of snow all over the place, and since I am a California girl, my tolerance for snow is basically non-existent. People kept asking me where my coat was. It's adorable how they assume they own one, isn't it?

8. But an old friend of mine showed up at my book signing, and brought me a PAX East scarf and several hugs, and that was lovely. Really, Boston was awesome for people: I saw Shawn, and Dave, and Nora, and Tammy, and Katy, and it was all splendid, and I have no regrets. So many hugs. I love hugs.

7. Oh, and then I found Carrie at the airport, as we were on the same flight home from Boston. She was quite ill. I fed her Pepto Bismol chewables and made her feel better. This is why I carry such things.

6. The cats are done being furious with me over my absence, and are now trying to love me so enthusiastically that I will never leave them again. For Thomas, this means a lot of flinging himself at me and trusting that I'll catch him. I have some really interesting scratches from where one of us misjudged the distance he was going to need to travel. Kitty love is pointy love.

5. My podiatrist has given me a prescription for...running shoes. Because that is the next rehabilitational step, after the walking boot that I've been in for the past month. Basically, they have the support and cushioning that I need, and they'll allow me to continue healing while also walking more normally. I have never been so excited about the prospect of putting my jeans back on, you have no idea.

4. I have so many deadlines in 2013, and some of them have been moved by other people, and it makes me pull my hair and whimper. But! I am triumphant thus far, and thanks to my compulsive list-making and passion for organizing my life, I am confident that I will be able to stay on top of them. As long as I don't get sick or distracted or forget to come home from Disney World in May (which is a genuine risk, let me tell you; Disney World is like a black hole for Seanans).

3. Jean Grey is no longer dead and I am not happy about that fact.

2. Zombies are, however, still love.

1. You all make me very happy, and I am glad that you're still here. I promise to try to be better about staying on top of things. I can't promise to succeed, but everything begins with trying.

Oooooh dear, this must be what people were asking you about.
Sometimes, I miss reading comics, since I've kinda fallen out of the habit in the last few years. But then I realise that by not keeping up with them, people like Jean Grey will always be dead in my world. It's small comfort, but comfort nonetheless.

Does that mean Jean Grey is a zombie?
Somehow, even with the zombie frosting I don't think Jean Grey ever equals love.

I'm so glad you had fun in Boston, snow notwithstanding! Your fans who were at the small slash con in Cambridge waved to you over there at Vericon and thought of you fondly and wished we could be in two places at once.
You were missed!
As you are listing the things in your day, I thought I would add a random kickstarter notice from Something Positive that might make you smile - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zan/anything-that-loves-comics-beyond-gay-and-straight
Awesome.

Glad to hear most of this (but boo to #3) (then again, isn't Jean Grey being not dead like swallows returning to Capistrano?)
Bwahahah!

Glad to hear that Vericon went well.

Something I have been wondering... How well did your newest book, Midnight Blue Light Special, do on the NY Times Best Seller list? (Hopefully higher than Discount Armageddon.)

That is not a question I will be answering in a blog comment. Sorry!
Hey, get some rest. Your schedule makes me tired just reading it.

Totally unrelated: while it will never be for anything other than his (and my) amusement, your work has moved the spousebeast to write his first fanfic. About the Aisling mice.

No worries about my saying anything more than that (he'd kill me) or it will show up on the internet (he still thinks it exists solely for WoW, paying the cable bill and...er...the occasional adult entertainment). But you've moved a poet/journalist to foray into fiction.

And collect stuffed mice. :) Luckily, they get along well with Sigmund and the other penguins.
I applaud your spousebeast in all his endeavors!

As a Californian who moved out East, I completely understand your lack of proper winterware. Glad you enjoyed Boston!
It was COLD.

Not to worry. Glad to hear about good friends and good medical progress.
Thank you.
I have never been so excited about the prospect of putting my jeans back on, you have no idea.
I had a hysterectomy in October 2011 at age 34 due to nearly 3lbs of tumors in my uterus. Between the swelling, the incisions and the absurd sensitivity of my belly button (from the laparoscopic incisions), it was FOREVER before I could put on real pants. So I totally sympathize.

(Icon is because I'm an old-school Jean Grey/X-Men fan though I must admit, I had to give up my comic habit back in the late 90's so damned all if I know how many times she's died and/or been reborn since then! LOL)
I never thought I'd go from "yay comfy jammies" to "I miss real pants, dammit." But I so, so do.

Aw, thank you.
I do hope they didn't break up Emma and Scott....

I'm thinking the same thing. Scott and Emma are a MUCH more interesting couple.

Re #3: How did they bring her back this time?
A look at Wikipedia suggests that time travel is to blame, and that she's actually a Jean Grey from back when they hadn't decided to give Mr. Summers a first name, and they just called him "Slim" Summers.

Take the time you need for you. We're not going anywhere. *gives pointy kitties scritches and sends over a machete sharpener*
Yay machete sharpener!

Pointy love indeed. I can always tell a non cat owner ( spellcheck wanted to make that Bobcat owner, hmmmmm) by whether they feel the need to comment on all my cat scars.
It is an odd badge of community, but it works.
I think I'm partially to blame for Dave descending upon you. He wondered at me the weekend before the con, "Should I surprise Seanan?" and I said "Duh, yes, she will squee". I am so glad he did!
It was amazing to see him.
Sadly, Life got in my way and I didn't make it to the Harvard Bookstore. But I can point out that we here in Boston firmly believe that what you saw was "after all the snow melted". :)

And, I suddenly realized a Great Truth. Action Dude is almost completely passive. (The obvious takes me a while.)

Come back in June! We have leaves and stuff!
*shudder*

Boston scares me.

That won't last. It never does.
I hope not.
Take care of yourself. I noticed the posting gap but my main thought was I hope she's okay. Take care of yourself.
Thank you.
10. and 1. I can understand the need for offline time to recharge. No need to say sorry, we're always happy when you come back.

3. I knew she'd come back sooner or later. Can we just change her name to Bad Penny? I can't imagine Emma is taking this well.

2. Have you seen the zombie version of the baby book Pat the Bunny? Looks hilarious.
"Bad Penny" would be the perfect name for her. Gold star.
You weren't actually at PAX East, were you? I was an Enforcer there, and I feel like I would have heard something about it...if you were there and I missed you I will be very sad. :(

Then again, even if you weren't, I am sad that we were in Boston at the same time and I didn't know to come see you wherever you were. I have a Newsflesh trilogy to worship you for--ahem, thank you for writing. :/

I was not! I was at Vericon, having a lovely time. :)

*hugs* offered, from one person currently buried under a pile of busy to another. Here's hoping that things ease up a bit soon.

10: I feel like you'd rather have me alert and peppy than gloomy and drooping,

I have enough gloom and droop for five people right now, so you are 100% correct! Do what you need to be happy. Happy author = more great books. Happy filker = more great songs. Happy person = more great in the universe. O:>

9. Yeah. New England is like that with the snow. Happily, it may be melting soon. Which is good, because it's been too cold for me to go out there with a magnify glass and try to fry the snow that way.

5. Good luck!

*sends e-hugs, for use or re-gifting as appropriate -- and no assumptions or strings attached regarding RL hugs!*
So much snow.
