I am considering doing a thing.

So here's the thing:

I am writing a lot of stories set in the history of the Price-Healy family, slowly pushing my way toward the modern day. There are also stories set in the present day, such as the Antimony-centric novella, "Bad Dream Girl," which is going to appear in the anthology Glitter and Mayhem. A lot of these get given away for free on my website, in a variety of formats, with covers and everything. I like keeping the canon centralized.

That said, unless an anthology is commissioning something, it can be hard to carve out the time for what is essentially unpaid work. I need to prioritize my time according to what I'm getting paid for (which is why, for example, the rate of "Velveteen vs." stories went up so sharply when I got a print contract). So...

How would people feel if I opened a "tip jar," with the understanding that for every X amount of dollars, I would add a story in one of my universes to the master list of Paid For Things? Those stories would still have to fit around everything else, but it would make them easier to schedule, and would also make my lights easier to keep on. The stories themselves would remain free on my website, so if you didn't want to donate, you could just stand back and wait for nature to take its course.

Thoughts?

Would it just be Incryptid short stories or pot luck which universe it was in?
Just InCryptid right now.
This person would feel fairly enthusiastic about the idea.
Excellent.
On our list of "When we win the gajillion dollar lottery we will..." is to somehow fund living authors we love so they can keep writing and keep living and not worry about feeding their cats, paying the bills, etc.

A tip jar means I can pretend I've won the lottery without having to actually buy the ticket, and do something (at least in a small way) that I've day-dreamed about doing. :-)

Yes, please!
My lottery list includes something very similar.
Yep - do it. Writing is fun, but having a roof over your head, hot food in your tummy a requirement.
Exactly.
Totally up for tipping, even without the thought of more stories, whichever universe you're currently into :)
Yay!
I would add funds to the tip jar and I am not offended that you are asking. I would even pony up to "host a cryptid" and help cover the cost of an entry in the in-cryptid encyclopedia.
I do that periodically.
You already know how I feel about this, but I wish to comment to reinforce.

I will find a way to contribute every pay day.

More Velveteen, more InCryptid, more Tobyverse, more Newsfleshverse, more Roseverse? I am down with the chip in.

<3
I think it's a cool idea! I'd definitely tip for stories :)
Thank you!
Yes! I'd tip you for that!
Aces.
Please let me give you money for writing. ;-)

(It's your choice what you write and when and all that. I just wanna give you money to make it more possible.)
Thank you. <3
Yes, please, and thank you.
<3
YES PLEASE that works for me.
Yay!
I would be super happy to throw money at you because you are awesome and I want to support you in your awesomeness.
Excellent.
It's very fair. I am grateful for all the free stories you provide, and would gladly contribute some cash to keep them coming.
Excellent.
I think this is a fantastic idea, and I would totally donate when I had the chance/disposable income!
Thank you!
I. Am. In.

And I agree with the separate tip jars idea.
Noted.
A tip jar would be an excellent idea, I'd definitely contribute. I think it should just be one tip jar though, rather than different ones for different universes, and then you could write in whatever universe was inspiring you at the time. I'm sure the stories would be more fun for everyone that way :-)
Just to clarify, I'm not a big fan of getting authors to write in universes they don't feel inspired by any more. I may love the universe and desperately want more stories set thre, but if the author's heart isn't in it it's usually a case of be careful what you wish for (recent examples being the latest Valdemar books) I'd rather have more top-notch stories written about universes you had a really cool story to tell in than something you wrote just because The Tip Jar Commanded It.

I would be happier to see a tip jar that laid no additional obligation on you whatsoever, but was simply a thank-you for stuff I've already read. I figure that would reduce your stress level more than the tip jar you described.
Thank you. <3
I am more than pleased with this idea and would certainly throw money at it when I could afford to do so. I like stories, and I like my favorite authors not getting eaten by their cats.
Yay!
I will gladly give you money if it means more Price-Healy stories. So very gladly. :)
YAY!
Yes, yes, yes!! The Fran and Jonathan stories are my favourite thing about the InCryptid 'verse, I'd happily toss money in the hat just for the ones we already have. The opportunity to pay for MORE STORIES (of whatever 'verse you wanted to write at the time) is a joyful thing.
Awesome, thank you. :)
