Reminder: Getting my MAD SCIENCE on today at Borderlands Books!

Greetings, people of Earth.

I will be appearing today at Borderlands Books in San Francisco at three p.m., where I, along with John Joseph Adams, will be explaining the world domination plans as described in The Mad Scientist's Guide to World Domination. (We do not believe in confusing titles here in the lab. Confusing titles mean melted minions, and that's a waste of resources.)

I understand that you may have other things to do, but I implore you to attend the event, or to contact the bookstore to order signed books, as we will look kindly upon those who support the anthology, and given the size of my vegetable hybrid army, "looking kindly" may save your city from being used as an incubation hive.

From my heart and from my hands, why don't people understand that I just need to subjugate them all to my will?

Still waiting for her shiny new Australia,
Seanan.

DAMN I wish I was anywhere near there.

Or that someone would get that damn teleporter working.

Anyway, good luck with the event!
It went well!
DON'T KILL ME I WILL BUY THE BOOK.
Good minion.
Trust me, Chapel Hill is *already* an incubation hive. Granted, it is mainly for sorority girls and frat boys, but that *might* dumb down your vegetable hybrid army to an unacceptable level.
Hrm.

Point.
my vegetable hybrid army,

we have slugs here, so beware!
Oooooooooooooooo.
I wish I could be there!

I have a distinct lack of concern about the vegetable hybrids, though - the possums would take them out pretty quickly.
Good luck with the event!
It went well!

I fully understand.
I am so bummed that I didn't see this post til now :( I hope the turnout was good, and that you had fun!
We did! Lovely group.
Australia really isn't shiny right now... More wet and grey. Are you sure you want it? ;)
Always.
I just read your story. That was fun! I like how you left so much unsaid and implied.
Thank you!
I appreciate a mad villain who knows the value of a minion. I'm always surprised when a minion gets melted, fried or exploded simply because they made one minor error.

A loyal minion has many uses. For example, a bullet shield.
Precisely!
As someone who judges anthologies and collections each year (and hence, has to read dozens and dozens and dozens) I can safely say it's the best I've ever read. The quality of it is astounding, it was a massive joy to read, and I kept running around to anyone who'd listen to share parts with them <3

Part of Australia is about to get a cyclone. Other parts are incredibly hot, or have been flooded. Don't think it counts for shiny, are you sure you still want it?
Seriously. I have to discount my story when I'm talking about personal impressions of quality, because hello bias, and that still leaves me with an anthology that's so dominantly awesome that I almost wish I wasn't in it, just to make it easier to recommend without sounding self-serving.

I will always want Australia.
Today, February 25th, I noticed that Barnes & Noble is running a huge discount on the ebook. Being one of those federal workers who are about to take a 10% pay cut for the year (on top of the hiring freeze and the salary freeze), I pounced.

I'll be off in my corner, hunched over my tablet, if anyone comes asking.
Awesome!

Not the hiring freeze, the other part.
Thank you for your contribution to this gem of an anthology and for telling us all about it. I finally had time on Sunday to pick up the copy that my local bookstore was holding for me. I'm only 8 stories in and have loved all but one of them so far. The first three particularly brought a smile to my face, and I suspect that I'll be looking back at this anthology when I ponder Hugo nominations next year. This is a collection I'll be savoring all week, and I have plans to be sitting at the front of the classroom in my lab coat holding the book when the students walk in just to see their reactions. :)

An aside to all Mad Scientists who want to live long enough to Show Them All; if your lab tech asks you if you're sure something's a good idea, take a moment to think before you reply. And if you see your tech running, try to keep up. Those of us who survive our first lab job develop finely honed survival instincts, and watching us may well let you live to take revenge upon those who have thwarted you.
I almost wish I weren't in it, just so people wouldn't think I was being self-serving when I told them how amazing it was.
