Walking on knives, for real this time.

Many of you probably know that I've been having severe issues with my left foot right now, which make it difficult for me to walk normally. Sometimes I can't walk at all. It turns out that this is because I've developed an internal bone spur. So I'm going to the podiatrist, who's going to refer me to a surgeon, who's going to cut me open and make things better. "Better" is a word that lives on the other side of surgical recovery and more pain, but at least there's a clear road from here to there.

I keep joking that I'm a mermaid now, since I get to walk on knives everywhere I go. Damn, do I feel bad for Ariel.

It's not fun, being basically in good physical form and ready to resume my normal exercise regime (now that my back injury has finally recovered enough to allow me to do so), only to have my foot decide that I don't need to be independently mobile. It's been making me snarly and a little more short-tempered than usual, because constant pain does not a happy blonde make, and for this I apologize. Hopefully, surgery will resolve things neatly, I'll spend a few weeks sitting around hating everything while I recover enough to start physical therapy, and then I'll be better.

I am excited to be better.

Ow ow ow! Very sorry you have to go through this but hope recovery is quick and you'll feel much better afterwards.
Best wishes that surgery goes well & recovery is speedy & complete.

(Only partly because of the mermaid reference), I swim for fitness (also learning not to drown is good too) & find it's much gentler on my aging joints.
Oh man, that sounds less awesome in an extreme way. I've been not exercising since I broke my leg at derby tryouts last July and only started back up (sloooooooowly) this week so I know the frustration of not being able to Do Stuff, if not the pain of a bone spur (which, god willing, I won't ever experience and you won't ever again experience!)
I had my shoulder sliced, diced, and julienned a few years ago, so I have a pretty good idea of how much fun you're getting ready to endure. I hope you're able to zip through your surgery, etcetera, as quickly as I was.
I hope your surgery goes smoothly and your recovery goes quickly.
Well. boo for 'walking on knives' - that's something you should make OTHER people do.
Buy yay for there being a name and a treatment for it, even if it's a less-than-fun one.

Just adding my support--wishing you as easy a surgery as possible, with a full and quick recovery.
Evil bone spur is evil. Feel free to hit me up for distraction or venting grade supports, whichever.
Feet stuff are the worst. We're coming at the tail end of a year of feet stuff with my mom and I spent the better part of last spring calling her constantly to make sure she stayed off her foot (which she didn't but thankfully her foot still healed okay.)

Good luck! I hope your recovery is brief and as painless as possible.
Deep sympathy - inflamed bone spurs are hugely painful, I'm lucky that last time my bone spurs became inflamed I was able to get mine under control with ultrasound, physical therapy and by switching to all Birkenstocks all the time. The spurs are still there, waiting to get me later, but they behave these days as long as I stick to the Birkis. Surgery sucks while you are recovering from it ( had my shoulder and knee done in the last few years) but it does do wonders to fix problems and have them stay gone. Good luck, and find the best physical therapist you can for recovery - try and find one with a real ultrasound machine, not some random "stim" thing. Usually the pt departments of hospitals have them.
I know bone spurs are excruciating, so I'm glad you can do something to feel better!
That sounds utterly miserable. I hope the referrals and scheduling come together quickly and that surgery and healing go smoothly.
Feel better soon! and may your docs be accurate and competent and smart!
Oh, ow. I had a small bone spur on my jaw one time -- just a little bitty thing -- but considering it was sticking through my gums, it HURT and was impossible to ignore. So I have some idea. Here's hoping the surgery goes smoothly and everything heals up fast for you!
Commiseration and hopes for a fast and total recovery. I suffer from plantar fasciitis that thankfully is responding to orthotics, so I've been wearing shoes everywhere on feet that long to be free. ^_^

Best wishes! [and don't feel like you have to respond to this post] HUGS!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Ow. That explains why you were mostly looking grumpy at Conflikt! Best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery.
Wishes of good health.
Good luck with the surgery. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Having had foot issues in my past, and the Boot of Doom thrice, you have my strongest sympathies. May the surgery go smoothly, and the healing progress quickly.
Oh no! Speedy recovery!

When I was younger, my mother had a heel spur, and had it surgically removed. After she recovered from the surgery, she was able to walk without pain again. I hope the surgery makes as much of a difference for you as it did for her.
Ow ow ow.

On one hand, I'm sorry you have to deal with this and have to have surgery.

On the other hand, I am glad they figured out what was causing it and can fix it and make it better.

{{{heal quickly}}} so you can be pain free and back to being a happy blonde.
Best wishes for an uneventful surgery, and a swift recovery.

*hugs* May your recovery be swift and as with as little pain as possible.

Loves you, my blonde.
