Last chance to get signed books, coming up.

It's almost Christmas! Whether you celebrate that specific calendar day or not, that means that there's about to be a massive disruption in the postal service, so if you had wanted to order anything, like say, a signed, personalized book, this would be the time to do it. Also, my last scheduled stop at Borderlands is December 20th. After that, you're out of luck until the new year. So! Do you want to give a signed, personalized book to the person of your choice, after exchanging money for it? Here's how!

1. Contact Borderlands Books (http://borderlands-books.com/) in San Francisco, California. You can contact them by either email or phone; check the website for specific options.

2. Order books! You have to tell them which ones, naturally, and whether you want them signed and personalized, or just signed. Personalized books must be paid for up-front. You can request a specific inscription. Some inscriptions (ie, my phone number) will be refused, although your book will still be signed.

3. While you're at it, order anything else that you'd like to get. I mean, hello, bookstore, and you're already paying for shipping, so why the heck not?

4. Give the store any information they need, like shipping address and billing and stuff.

5. The store will contact me, and I'll go in and sign things!

At this point, your book will probably not reach you before Christmas, but at least it will be signed and shiny.

But wait, you cry! What books are currently available from the store?

TOBY: Rosemary and Rue, A Local Habitation, An Artificial Night, Late Eclipses, One Salt Sea, and Ashes of Honor.

INCRYPTID: Discount Armageddon.

NEWSFLESH: Feed, Deadline, Blackout, When Will You Rise, and the Newsflesh box set.

VELVETEEN: Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots.

ANTHOLOGIES: The Living Dead 2 (Newsflesh-universe story); Home Improvement: Undead Edition (Toby-universe story); Zombiesque; Westward Weird (Incryptid-universe story); Tales From the Ur-Bar; Human For a Day; The Modern Fae's Guide to Surviving Humanity; Other Worlds Than These; Human Tales; Grants Pass.

Because Borderlands does not carry non-fiction, none of the Mad Norwegian Press titles are available from them.

Any questions?

(Post concept gleefully stolen from John Scalzi. I love you, John!)

Ooh... I need One Salt Sea and Ashes of Honor so I can read them. I could call and order them tomorrow! (Well, later today really, since since the witching hour has already come and gone on December 18th.) The chances of you having time to both read and reply to this question are slim. Therefore, I will order the books anyway! But I am going to take a gamble and do the following (which may require emailing Borderlands with the exact request as a followup):

For one book, I will request an inscribed line from my favorite poem by you about muses, titled, "Missed." The line is "I left a map for you in San Francisco, drawn on fog and etched in mist." This somehow connects in my head to the October Daye books, which are in a sense the "maps" of her world. It would be awesome to see it on one of the October Daye books.

Remembering how you used to write poems by request on LJ, back when you had the time, I will then take a gamble. At worst, the Borderlands staff declines the convoluted request, or you are too busy the day you come by. If that happens, I should still get my second ordered book with just a signature (which I am okay with).

However, for the second book, I will request that you write a line replying to the previous quote! Answer from the point of view of Seanan McGuire (Author and Person), October Daye, Newt the vampire librarian (from old LARP days, continuing the book/map comparison), or whatever character seems most fitting to you. I know Newt is ancient history, but you used to post updates on what your previous rpg characters would be doing, and it seems appropriate to the metaphor...

Again, if you do not have time to play improviser when you sign everyone's books on the 20th, I completely understand. I am tired and worried about things in my life, and turning to fiction to help me tonight, just a little... I get results on an MRI scan of my brain tomorrow from the neurologist for some unexplained health problems; I am very much hoping it shows nothing medically wrong but stress and exhaustion.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season, and a good Yule celebration at the Winter Solstice, if you are so celebrating it...

As long as the bookstore wrote your requests down, it should be fine. :)
S. gave me Ashes of Honor and Discount Armageddon for Chanukah. Yay!
Yay!
...You know, I really, really do not think clearly in the middle of the night when I am exhausted! In the interest of simplicity and sanity, I am going to call Borderlands right now and ask for the following: one inscription for the first book (then give the poem quote), and then whatever Seanan feels like adding to the second book (if anything), beyond the signature.

I spend what feels like a large portion of my life unsnarling bits that I have deliberately made complicated! It is a talent.

Also, the neurologist said today that the MRI of my brain was normal. This leaves me A) grateful but still with a problem and B) with a referral to the movement disorder clinic specialists at the local research hospital. So, okay. Back to my regularly scheduled law practice and the (increasingly late) grades I need to send in for my night English class...

All is well, darlin'.

Be better.
Because my husband tells me to get things I want for Xmas [so he can gives 'em to me, bwah ha ha] - I went to Barnes & Noble for the Toby series. They had the 2 latest on the shelf - and were delighted to mail the other 4 to me, free of shipping/handling costs since it was more than $25. I am so VERY happy to get the whole series - and really like B&N's shipping policy.
Hooray!
