Thanks to the great generosity of two anonymous fans, I have two more copies of Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots to send out into the world! For great justice! In an effort to keep things simple, we're going to do a random number drawing. So to enter...
1. Leave a comment on this post. 2. Identify your country of origin.
...and that's all. In this case, "identify your country of origin" is so I know if I need customs forms. The giveaway is open to all, and as this giveaway is being sponsored by wonderful, generous people, international postage is already covered.
I will select two winners on Friday, December 21st. I cannot guarantee that books will be mailed before Christmas, but I will try.
I feel like at least trying to make this comment interesting to read. Hmmm...
If I had superpowers in the Velveteen Vs. universe, they would probably be something relatively useless, like the ability to see through the front covers of books or something. Which would be good; I would be less likely to attract the attention of Marketing that way.
It is! Unless it's manga or something and has an illustration in there, it's either blank or the title page! It would be SUCH a useless power.
Though I guess it could be used for stealthy communication; someone could write messages in the book... but it would still be pretty worthless for top secret communique and what-not.
It would be more useful if you could see through any page, but still know where the 'page borders' are. Then you can just stare at a book's front and back cover for a long time in a bookstore, while you're actually reading it!
*store clerk sees you staring at the book cover for over half an hour already* Store clerk: "Can I help you?" You: "Hm... No, I'm just trying to decide whether or not I'm going to buy this book. Maybe I want to put it on my Christmas wishlist." Then you put the book away because you've read it entirely already :P
I would feel kind of bad about doing that, though... and I'd have to learn how to read backwards.
On the other hand, I try to only by books I'll reread! So if nothing else, I could super conspicuously stare atstealthily read the first half of the book and make an informed decision! :D Because the half hour drive to the book store is so much easier than the five minute drive to the librar... hmm...
Better yet, I could read books while my mom or brother are reading them! No more fighting over who gets to read it first! All it would take would be creepy, intense staring which I'm sure would not distract or unnerve them in the slightest! :P
That's why you should stare at the front and back cover alternatively. Then you don't have to read backwards.
...if you do that, they'd give you the book to read normally because they get irritated by your stares (or they'd go read somewhere where you cannot stare at them...)
I was thinking of reading Harry Potter too XD But there probably will be other books that more family members want to read simultaneously. Or other things. Or... wait, you can also look through envelopes then :O You can read ALL THE LETTERS.... And... You can read other important documents other people are trying to hide... Uh-oh.... Don't let anyone know, the FBI or some other security agency will take you away then! You'd be dangerous because you can just see important secrets through the paper (well, don't print important secrets on paper then? But noooo...).
Wow, my useless power is getting more and more versatile! Maybe I should start packing to move to Oregon...
...aaaaand it occurs to me that all these comments could throw off the random number generator, so we should probably stop. Or delete. Or both.
This message will self destruct.
Edit: ...as soon as I make sure that self-destructing this message will make things less complicated instead of more. Because it may create Phantom Numbers for the generator to deal with for all I know.
Maybe it doesn't matter for the random number generator. But if necessary I can delete my messages too :) Maybe if one of our messages is selected, Seanan can just count onwards from your first message to the next commenter.
