Fan art wins ARCs!

Because I'd like to have my bedroom back someday, I'm going to kick off a second ARC giveaway for Midnight Blue-Light Special. This one will be open until Monday, and is one of the ones that requires actual effort (sorry about that). This time, we're going visual! Make icons, do a photo manip, draw a picture, grab some friends and pose, whatever makes you happy. The rules:

1. The image must relate directly in some way to one of my available works. Meaning that both Velveteen and the Rose Marshall stories are eligible. Stage a hitchhiking ghost! Draw a bunny superhero! Or stick with InCryptid, or Toby, and have a blast!

2. LOLcats are also eligible.

3. Once your submission is prepared, link or post it on this entry. Feel free to explain what's going on.

4. That's all.

The winner will be chosen Monday, December 17th, via random number generator.

You did see that it has to be an image, right?
Well, she said icons were allowed. The only image is my icon, so I was thinking that that would get people's attention by default (to try to put that entire caption into the icon itself would be impossible at any legible size). Once there, I was thinking that the picture of two of the hostesses at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, with that caption, would be sufficient. But from your comment and Seanan's, apparently I misjudged. Maybe I should have given the entire thing another caption, along the lines of

"Shortly after being turned into a fish, Toby's subconscious cries for help lose something in translation"
*OH!* Man, I didn't even look at the icon. *facepaw* I kept thinking there must be an image missing that you meant to paste into the body of your post. The problem wasn't the caption; just that it didn't occur to me you were submitting the icon since it was just in, y'know, user icon position. People's eyes tend to skim over that.

Probably putting it in the body of the post would've made it clear that it was the submission.
Oh, undoubtedly putting it in the body of the post would have made things clearer. But LJ doesn't let me do that very easily.

I've got a Free Account. When I click on the Insert Photo button I'm given a choice - insert from an album (but free accounts don't get albums) or paste in a URL. Since the modified picture was on my home computer and I don't have my own website, I would have had to use someone else's.

Oh, I suppose I could have uploaded it to flickr and then linked to that URL, but at the time it seemed SO much easier to just make it an icon (something LJ lets me upload directly). But seeing the confusion I caused doing it this way, I apparently chose... poorly.

Of course, I could simply have accepted Seanan's invitation to explain what was going on. Much simpler all around. Oh well, live and learn.

If it's in your user icons then it has a URL. Right click on it and choose 'view image' or 'copy image URL' or 'open image in new tab' or something similar.
If I'm going to do all that I might as well upload it to flickr and not be limited to the 100x100 icon size (the original picture is much wider and there IS room for the caption if I used the original). I was in a hurry, I used the quick-and-dirty method - but sometimes there is a reason to take a bit more time. This was one of those times.
