Bits and pieces for a rainy October day.

T-shirt update.

Shirts are being mailed! But in the interests of not being stoned to death by the other people who use my small local post office, they're being mailed in batches of twenty to thirty at a time. What does this mean? It means that if you have not yet received your shirt, it probably hasn't been mailed, but is instead sitting in a large sack in my living room. If you ordered three or more shirts, there is a good chance that your order is coming in more than one envelope. Breathe deeply, and it will be with you soon.

CDs and stuff.

I have sent a restock of both Wicked Girls and Red Roses and Dead Things to CD Baby. I estimate that I have roughly a hundred copies of Red Roses left, after which the CD will be out of print. I'm not currently planning a reprint, so, y'know, get it while it's available.

My cats are weird.

This morning, Thomas decided that he was going to accompany me to work, and attempted to accomplish this by stuffing himself into my backpack. It astonishes and terrifies me that he can fit inside my backpack; he's a lot of cat, and there are other things inside that bag. But he did it! And if he'd remembered to pull his tail inside, he might have made my day a lot more exciting than I ever wanted it to be.

The Pirates of Emerson.

Just a reminder to my Bay Area friends: the Pirates of Emerson have opened their annual haunted theme park at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. Five awesome haunted houses, two mazes, the Bumpkin Patch, live entertainment, games, and more, all presented by spooky-ass pirates who leer and go "arrrrrrr" whenever provoked. It's a lot of fun, it's super reasonably priced for what you get, and I highly recommend it.

(I do not, however, recommend it for kids under twelve, or even for easily frightened kids under thirteen. You can still take them if you want, but you can't blame me for the night terrors and bedwetting that may follow.)

Best shirt ever.

My friend Craig sent me an official CDC Zombie Preparedness Task Force shirt, and it is the best shirt ever. I am the happiest disease/zombie fangirl in the whole wide world right now.

One con more...

I have only one convention left in 2012: WindyCon in Chicago, this coming November. After that, I am blissfully home free for the (admittedly short) remainder of the year. Which means a) if you wanted to catch me at a con, Windy is your last chance this year, and b) I might actually take a nap.

Although that's unlikely.

Thomas is a gifted cat, but cats never seem to remember that they have tails when they are hiding. Especially when they are long, fluffy Maine Coon tails. Admittedly, it does make them easy to find. (My mother's 'probably part Maine Coon' cat was named Peppy after Pepe Le Pew, because of the way he carries his giant, fluffy tail like a banner, except when he is getting it into everything and using it to knock down things on shelves.)
Thomas usually doesn't knock things over, but he's always so PUZZLED when he gets caught.
Thomas could have been your guard kitty for at work.
Until he ran off to bother my CEO.
Is it "Take Your Cat To Work" Day already?
No. Not this day.

Oh please say you got pictures of Thomas stuffed in your backpack? I've had kitties try to pack themselves into my suitcases without my knowing but never backpacks.
Sadly, I was too startled to photograph before extracting.

I suspect your poor aching back would have noticed the extra weight in pretty short order. With any luck, before you even got out of the door.
One hopes.
what is it about cats forgetting their tails are parts of their bodies? they're more like afterthoughts. or never-thoughts, in some cases.
Oh, they remember, they just don't care.

My middle cat (Ish) frequently goes for walks with me. This is nice, when it's just round the nature reserve behind the house. It's more worrying when he decides he wants to come to the grocery with me.
Ayla, my first Siamese, used to walk me to school. It was half a mile. Sometimes she'd be waiting for me out front in the afternoons.

This did not help me convince the other kids that I was not a witch.

subject change, but I thought you'd like this article; apparently there exist singing mice!

Yup!
About a 1/3 through FEED. VERY good so far. Will check your LJ for FEED posts and try not to spoil myself too much...
I wish I could read that one again for the first time.

And *no one* has made a joke about the title of this post yet? No one?
are they squelchy-bits?

Also, what is the technical distinction between a "bit" and a "piece" - especially when discussing squelchy-bits?
(This is relevant to my interests - for a panel at Windycon)

Thomas is awesome.
Yes, he is.
The stories about the antics of your cats, especially Thomas, never fail to bring a smile to my face.
He's my fluffy jerk!
My cats do that too. Mostly Skif, although occasionally Ender. A black cat in a dark backpack is surprisingly hard to see, and it's very startling to see the inside of your bag blinking at you as you start to put something into it.
I have a black cat and a black backpack. She likes to sleep on my backpack. This occasionally makes me jump because I don't notice her until she moves or blinks.

I'm glad you found your CD! Meep!
"Curses! You foiled my fiendish plans."

Oh Thomas, you silly silly cat. That so brightened my day.
He is a clever boy who just happens to be as dumb as a box of hammers.

I have my shirts! I was very excited to receive them. In fact, I'm wearing one now. It's awesome.

Thomas' antics are also awesome. Cats are love.
Hooray!
For Thomas you are a source of fun. Also comfort and security, but mostly fun. Wherever you go is the place to be. Basically you are the mommy cat, and wherever mommy goes is the place to be.
Oh, I know.

Silly boy.
My shirt arrived way back on the 30th, and I posted a picture with me in it.

And because you mentioned cats and I'm sure you want to see how big my little Tybalt is getting:

(I hope those work.)
Oh, he is a HANDSOME boy!

My Hector tries to pack himself whenever it looks like I'm going on a trip.

BTW, when I saw an item about scientists teaching male mice to sing in harmony I thought of you and In Cryptid. Aeslen mice: more realistic than one would think.
Yup!
Hey! I browsed through the archives briefly and didn't see any mention of this - but forgive me if you've heard about this already. Just thought you might like to know that Mark of Mark Reads is doing the Newsflesh trilogy as one of his two projects.

(Also, count me among those who are amused by kitty antics.)
I am aware!

I drew him a nun.
Received my t-shirts right before my Vegas trip. My sister and I wore them on our day trip to the Grand Canyon. :)

And Roarke would probably fit in my messenger bag. I suspect I would notice the extra 16 pounds though. He would love to spend the day at work.
Awesome.
Happily have first package of shirts! Hadn't wanted to say anything as you hadn't announced mailing them.
Hooray!

They are sad in their tail-y-ness.
We got our lovely red shirts on the Tuesday before leaving for Anaheim Gay Days where we wore them with great pride and glee, bragging you up every time we got asked about them. Which was a lot of bragging! You were the hit of our Red Shirt Saturday, in Disneyland!
AWESOME!
I don't know if you listen to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, the NPR news quiz (which I try to never miss) (they podcast), but one week the moderator commented that the CDC had issued a statement that really, there wasn't anything that could produce zombies or zombie-grade lookalikes, and then pointed out that that's how pretty much every zombie movie starts, with the CDC reassuring everyone...

So I'm glad to hear that you're prepared -- and organized! :)
This makes me happy.
