A FANTASY MEDLEY 2 review and reminder.

You may or may not remember that I've got a story appearing in A Fantasy Medley 2 from Subterranean Press, due out this November. This is a spectacularly lovely limited-edition book, featuring stories from me, Tanya Huff, Amanda Downum, and Jasper Kent. And when I say "limited," I mean it: the print run is restricted to 224 numbered copies signed by the authors and editor, and 1,500 fully cloth bound hardcover copies. That's it. No more copies will be made.

But! That's not all! We just got a starred review from Publishers Weekly! You can read the full review right here, and here's what they had to say about my story, "Rat-Catcher":

"Seanan McGuire's "Rat-Catcher," set hundreds of years before her October Daye books, is both charming and gut-wrenching."

Yay!

So anyway, I'm just gonna leave the link to the ordering page over here, for those who might be interested. It really is a beautiful book, and if you want to read Tybalt's origin story, this is the way to do it.

(Note: "Rat-Catcher" happens hundreds of years before the main series, and doesn't impact anything. It's just background. I really love it, but it is not essential to read and enjoy the books. I promise.)

Squee!

I really want to buy it, but shipping to the UK is going to cost another $15! Will the story ever be published somewhere else? *sadface*

Edit: Or will I be able to buy it from any UK sellers? Amazon.co.uk seems to think maybe, but I am unsure.
Someday, in the very far future, I may have enough Toby shorts to do a collection, ala Kelley Armstrong's Tales of the Otherworld. But until then, sadly, no.

I don't know about UK sellers, I think it depends on whether someone there buys one for resale.

So I was waffling on buying this because as much as I really want to read the Tybalt story, I had no desire to read any of the other stories since I don't read those books and figured I'd just be lost and I wouldn't appreciate them anyway.

That review changed my mind. Pre-ordered! (And, huh, although it says $25 for the regular edition on the page, when I ordered, it was actually $20...and then I saw that it was even cheaper on Amazon, as I had looked back through old e-mails and found that that is how I'd ordered the last thing I bought from SP, and Yanni Facebook messaged me to give me the number of my book because it had been signed but not numbered. Aw. They're good people.) Anyway, the point is I am spending my grandmother's birthday money on you. *waits for the Velveteen book to go up for pre-order*
...that may be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.

Best Sunil is best.
Yay - thx for info 'n' link!
Very welcome!
YaaaaaaaaaY! *KermitArms*
New stuff from You always makes me happy. Thank You for being You.
I'm good at it. :)
Order placed. More Tybalt is always a good thing.
Yay!
Oh, thanks for the reminder! I ordered a copy for us when you first announced it, and then forgot about it. Now I'm excited about it all over again. :)
Oh, awesome!

Which version did you get?

Hm. Do I want to spend $20 to get more Tybalt backstory?

What a ridiculous question. Of COURSE I do.

*scurrying off to order*

Glee. :)
SO TORN! WANT TYBALT BACKSTORY!!!! Am trying very hard to NOT add physical books to the already overflowing bookshelves, but there isn't an ebook option (currently).

Hrmmm... May have to add this to the bday/holiday wish list. If it is a gift, then I can't NOT put it on the bookshelves, right? right?? *innocent kitten face*
Sadly, there isn't going to be an ebook option, because that's not the business model. :( They run entirely on really nice, really high-quality physical editions for their limited things (like this).

Thank you for the link. I'm glad for the opportunity to have ordered it. I'm looking forward to reading more about Tybalt, and also having stories by other authors I like, too!
Yay!
$20 version ordered! (i know it's another $15 shipping to the UK, but I know it's going to be worth it!) Can't wait to read the Tybalt story! :-)
Awesome. :)
I got the limited back when you first mentioned it. I love Subterranean and have bought books from them for years. Good to see you there. I also have another limited order in with them by an author you may know, the book is When You Rise by a Mira Grant?
Lots to look forward to!
Yay!
I ordered my (limited) one AGES ago :)
Yay!

Yay!
I think I preordered this one when you first mentioned it! I'm desperate for more about Tybalt. *clutches hair*

This is definitely one of the Awesome Things I'm looking forward to in November. It might even distract me from NaNoWriMo for a while.
Awesome. :)
Thanks for the heads up. I love Tybalt.
Me, too.
Heh. As I was checking out, I saw that "I might also be interested in" the first Fantasy Medley. I am, but Subterranean is sold out (of course!), and I can't really swing Amazon's $400 asking price :o)

Yeah, that's...a bit steep. Silly collectables.
Will it ever be available elsewhere? Finances are tight and I'd rather not spend $20 for a book in which I'm only interested in one story.
As I said above:

Someday, in the very far future, I may have enough Toby shorts to do a collection, ala Kelley Armstrong's Tales of the Otherworld. But until then, sadly, no. Even if I wanted to make it available elsewhere, I am contractually unable to; Subterranean owns exclusive print rights for the time being.
