ASHES OF HONOR open thread!

To celebrate the release of Ashes of Honor, here. Have an open thread to discuss the book. Judging by the comments I'm seeing, you've had time.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned. (I will not reply to every comment; I call partial comment amnesty. But I may well join some of the discussion, or answer questions or whatnot.) I will be DELETING all comments containing spoilers which have been left on other posts. No one gets to spoil people here without a label.

You can also start a discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence, since I always wind up getting involved in these things.

Have fun, and try not to bleed on the carpet.

I am so happy with this book, I'm just so full of glee over basically everything.

Except that I nearly had a heart attack when Raj pointed a gun at Tybalt. And was very concerned that Riordan would make Quentin into her loveslave or something. It was worrying.

Other than that, I think my favourite moment was when Tybalt thanked Toby because I remember your post on courting customs and how the only people who thank each other often are courting couples and it made me keysmash for... a significant length of time.

Also I loved when Etienne used the iron handcuffs as a weapon. TOTAL BADASS.
Me too! So much glee!

Tybalt and Toby's courtship has been delighting me for volumes now. I'm just glad Toby finally recognized it for what it is. ;-) Oh, holy wow they are so awesome.

And Raj having to point a gun at Tybalt! And Tybalt forgiving him. Oh, my heart.

And Etienne getting his happily-ever-after. With a folklore professor. ::facepalm:: And oh, Chelsea's room with the Firefly posters! <3

And did anyone else notice the seemingly throwaway reference to the king and queen being up in Toronto? I'm laying bets now on them being Quentin's parents. \o/

And did I mention how much I adore the Toby/Tybalt courtship? I just want to draw giant sparkly hearts around both of them, FOREVER.
I had a very longsuffering friend who let me type things like 'sdffldskjkldjfj' and '!!!!!!!!' at her every time Toby and Tybalt did something cute. Which was pretty often! She was very tolerant.
I started hoping Quentin's parents were the king and queen back the in the first book, when the two facts that the king and queen were in Toronto and Quentin had a Canadian accent were mentioned fairly soon after one another. I'm happy that someone else thinks that too and I'm not nuts for having this weird pet obsession about it :-D.
I managed to miss it in the first book, but caught it this time, and it's a lovely notion. I've grown awfully fond of Quentin. (And also makes his friendship with Raj even more charming and awesome -- Faerie has a bright future with people like them at the helm, you know?)
Oh, sweetie, you are so not the only one. How do you think they got Toby's Pardon so quickly?
If I'm wrong I hope it's for a good reason, but I assumed they are and the only reason Toby hasn't noticed is because she's really good at being oblivious about things.
And because you'd have to be way too stupid to run a continent to give your potential heir to an unlanded changeling with a gift for risking her neck. Remember that from where Toby is standing, her having a squire at all is bizarre, and probably proves that his parents are either criminals or criminally dense.
Yes, well, I think we all know that Toby should not do her own publicity. She has a couple of blind spots.
There was a mention in Late Eclipses I think, where Toby says words of wisdom to Quentin and Raj about how people should rule and both of them respond with the affirmative they will rule that way.

There's also the line about how Quentin's parent's have "no power here", and later Quentin hands the Queen the pardon from the High King.

If Quentin isn't the next High King, he's at least a cousin. Which makes sense with the blind fosterage
-X
You were not alone.

Also the bit where the King intervened to pardon Toby for killing blind Michael, was totally due to Quentin in my head canon.
I had the same thought about Quentin's parents in One Salt Sea, and it's so nice to know I'm not alone in my suspicions. :)

Oooh, what a good idea!
