Dual ARC giveaway.

In addition to the much-vaunted (and very pretty) Ashes of Honor ARCs, I currently have ARCs for two, yes two different Subterranean Press books. One, A Fantasy Medley 2, contains the first-ever Tybalt-centric novella, "Rat-Catcher," which explains how he first came to be a King of Cats, the origins of his name, and why, when pressed, he sometimes introduces himself to humans as "Rand Stratford." The other, When Will You Rise?, is a collection of two Mira Grant short pieces that have not previously been published in physical form. Both will be coming out this fall, as gorgeous, limited edition volumes.

Understandably, these are even more limited than normal ARCs. But they're worth the read (and the finished books...hoo, nelly). So what's a girl to do?

Give some stuff away, naturally. Specifically, one copy of each Subterranean Press ARC.

This particular giveaway is open to US residents or to non-US residents who feel like paying postage. I'm very sorry about the restriction, there, but I'm in the middle of convention season, and I don't have the spare dollars right now. To enter...

1. Comment with which book you'd like to win, and why.
2. Give your best plea to the Random Number Generator.
3. If you're a non-US resident, indicate both this and your willingness to pay postage.

I will use the RNG to choose three potential winners for each book, and then choose the plea I like best. Yes, that makes it a little arbitrary, but only a little. Winners will be selected on Wednesday, August 8th, at noon PST. The usual twenty-four hour window will then apply.

ETA: Guys, don't tell me why you want to win/why you should win; tell the RNG why you, above all others, are the predestined owner of the book. I want you to bribe the random number generator like a corrupt politician. Have fun! Don't just tell me "because I want it." If you didn't, you wouldn't be here!

Dear Random Number Generator:

My cat has been acting strangely. She has developed a habit of lying on my chest pinning me to beds and couches so that I will not leave the house, but when I want to find her she is nowhere to be found. I find myself worried that she is working on some devious plot. Please send me Fantasy Medley 2 as perhaps that may shed some more light on the ways of cats and allow me to decode her shenanigans.

Phryne is currently pinning me to a couch in Chicago, IL in the US.

Oh great RNG, I want A Fantasy Medley 2 because I love Tybalt! I have been a very good girl this year, donated to charity, recycled my aluminum, and didn't throw my cigarette butts out of the window of the moving car! I know you are the great RNG, who has done many great things and also looks fantastic in your formal attire of choice, and I beg of you, please give me the ARC I want!

For the record, I would like to say that I did NOT bribe the RNG and am insulted that you would believe such libel and slander against me. Yes, i admit that Louisiana has a long and storied history of corruption and bribery but that has no bearing upon my attempt to receive the fantasy medley. None at all. And no, that is not my handwriting. It is a frame I tell you! All lies created by my enemies to disqualify me. Really, honestly no bribery. Would I lie to you? Well, except about that other thing. But we're not discussing that.....
P.S. should my attempts have actually succeeded I would like the Fantasy Medley and I'm from the US!

Dear RNG,

I know that you have always treated me and all the many applicants fairly and equally. I am a happy numbers geek, and thrilled at your statistically standard behavior, but I'm asking that just this once that you lean my direction. I suggest that this will involve a wider exposure of A Fantasy Medley 2, contains the first-ever Tybalt-centric novella, "Rat-Catcher,". We operate an evil lending library in which we give people their first taste of a series, and then point them at a bookstore. We think that Rat-Catcher will be a fun new entry point in to the Tobyverse. So RNG when you pick please lean the numbers towards me.

Please oh please RNG be kind and grant me an ARC of A Fantasy Medley 2! I love the Tobyverse and Tybalt is absolutely my favorite character I would love to hear more about how he came to be king of the cats. I promise if I win it I won't let the kittens chew on the book too much though I am perfectly willing to offer kitten pictures with the book and I am positive the kittens will enjoy the story as much as I do. All of the kittens we have fostered in the library have been very intelligent and prefer the bookcase where we keep the Mira Grant and Seanan McGuire collections so I have no doubt the next batches will be just as pleased to pose with an ARC.

I would very much like to win When Will You Rise?, because while I have read Countdown and have the book on order from Subterranean, the second story isn't available to me because I am not in the US, and the release date is very far away.

RNG, PICK ME, PICK ME, PICK ME. I will sacrifice old maths textbooks in a sacrificial burning to the Random Number Gods if you do. (A number generator should like that, right? More numbers to randomise?)

I'm in Australia, but I will totally pay postage.

Hey RNG I live in Canada, and I love Tybalt. I mean really, I'm even thinking about getting tabby stripes for my hair so I'm more Tybalt like. he is so awesome, I'm really hoping he and Toby well, you know, go out together or something. Finding out howw he became king of the cats would be SO awesome.

Dear RNG,

We would like to win A Fantasy Medley 2. Why, I hear you ask? My cat, Grissom, has a serious case of hero-worship when it comes to Tybalt. He wants to be just like him and he feels that being able to study his novella and find what makes the man (cait sidhe) tick is crucial. (I keep telling him he's fine just as he is, but you know cats- you can't tell them a damn thing.)

We are US residents, but tell Seanan that we can pay shipping anyway, if she needs us to. :-D

I am in the US, and the RNG should recognize that I have a milestone birthday in a few weeks, and it can celebrate or ease the sting (its choice) by giving me a copy of Fantasy Medley.

I would very much like A Fantasy Medley 2, RNG. You should give it to me because I have faith that when the robot revolution occurs that you and others like you will not decide to destroy us in a nuclear apocalypse. So if I win, I will take it as a sign that your general disinterest in human activities other than refining silicon and generating electricity will keep you from making war, and you can rely on me to support your plans for peaceful symbiosis. Unless, of course, you're planning on killing us after all, and then you can use me as a patsy until until you're finishing making the Killbot 5000.

The Random Number Generator needs to send me A Fantasy Medley 2 (here in the US of A) and this is why:

Returned am I from Ashland, home of plays
Staged by the finest actors and their friends;
I saw there Romeo & Juliet,
In which the tale of one named Tybalt ends.

Now in the play, that's right and proper, but
In life we like things balanced, put in scale;
So justice, in its course, needs must supply
A diff'rent Tybalt's start as counter-tale.

Yet "Wait!" I hear the number-spinner cry,
"I serve the cause of chaos. Dost thou jest
By calling on my art for justice' sake?
The case you make is one against receipt
Of what you ask for. Balance serve I not;
I fear you've made a tactical mistake."

Then do I smile. "Not so, my random friend;
You're thinking in the short term, not the long.
What's just and right for me is true for one,
But not for Seanan's vast, relentless throng."

"Grant me this boon," I tell the number-god,

The hordes of posters storm my town and street

OK RNG... romper, stomper, boo... the Tybalt-centric novella, "Rat-Catcher," would make my Maine Coon Cat, Dark Passenger very happy.. I promise that I'll read it to her if I win... She'll get a big kick out of is since Tybalt is her fav when she is not dream/chasing Aeslin mice!!!

I'd love a copy of A Fantasy Medley 2. Tybalt is my favorite of your characters. (And I love a lot of your characters). I love that he's both reliable and unreliale, if that makes sense, that he does feel like a real cat in man form instead of a sentimentalized version. I love that he has claws in the physical and metaphorical sense. I want more Tybalt, as much as I can read, but finances are always dicey and whenever I think I'm getting ahead a cat gets sick or the car breaks, or something wears out, or my medical stuff gets randomly expensive. I want to read your story very much, but I can't bet on the library getting a copy of the anthology and I will likely have to wait a lot longer to get a copy of my own. I include as extra inducement, an icon of two of our cats with one of your books.
