Current projects, July 2012.

I'm a couple of days late, due to that whole "I was in San Diego on the 15th, trying not to be engulfed by the crowd and cast into the sea," but this is the July 2012 current projects post, because we are using this year up like cheap single-ply toilet paper. It's distressing. Anyway, this is the post in which I tell you what I'm working on, and you finally understand why I don't have time for tea. To quote myself, being too harried to say something new: "These posts are labeled with the month and year, in case somebody eventually gets the crazy urge to timeline my work cycles (it'll probably be me). Behold the proof that I don't actually sleep; I just whimper and keep writing."

Please note that all books currently in print are off the list, as are those that have been turned in but not yet printed (Ashes of Honor, Midnight Blue-Light Special, Parasite). The cut-tag is here to stay, because no matter what I do, it seems like this list just keeps on getting longer. But that's okay, because at least it means I'm never actively bored. I have horror movies and terrible things from the swamp to keep me company.

Not everything on this list has been sold. I will not discuss the sale status of anything which has not been publicly announced. Please don't ask.

***

Chimes at Midnight.
Toby Daye, book seven. Urban fantasy/fairy tale noir, modern setting, first-person protagonist. I can't say much about this book yet, since you're all a book behind me, but I'm about 30,000 words in, and things are getting messy.

Half-Off Ragnarok.
InCryptid, book three. Paranormal romance/urban fantasy, modern setting, first-person protagonist. The first of two Alex Healy stories. Again, I can't say much, but I have a file, and I've finished four chapters.

Echo.
Echo, book one. YA science fiction about parallel universes. Sort of Fringe meets The OC. With mathematicians and science, because I'm still me. Status: in outlines, getting ready to write the sample chapters.

Sit, Stay, I Hate You.
Coyote Girls, book two. Young adult horror/paranormal romance, modern setting, first-person protagonist. Having survived the events of Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues, Clady would really like it if her life would settle down and get, y'know, easy for a little while. Clady is not going to be terribly happy with me, either. Status: about halfway through chapter one, stalled while I work on other things.

The Nativity of Chance.
High modern fantasy ranging across the country, through the wonderful lands of Oz, and through a lot of explosions. Pythagorean philosophy meets the works of L. Frank Baum, alchemy meets modern technology, and a pair of cuckoos meet their destiny. Status: researching.

Pretty Poison Apples.
The sequel to Nativity of Chance, and that seasonal monarchs book I've been threatening to write forever. Stop looking at me like that. Status: researching.

How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea.
The 2013 Newsflesh-universe novella. Details to come; animal husbandry in Australia is involved.

Silver Slipper Blues.
The Ongoing Trials of Dorothy of Oz, book one. I'm blocking out the structure. I think this is a trilogy. More news to come, status: researching.

There are lots of other books floating around here—some finished and slated to be worked on further, others pending getting started—but these are the ones you're likely to hear the most about, at least currently. I'll update this list from time to time, as things move from "project" to "print" and new things take their places on the workshop floor.

I watched the live Comic Con coverage on G4 over the weekend, which was marvelously fun - but I kept having flashbacks to "San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats", which was deliciously creepy. :-D
As did I. *shivers*

randomly, i saw http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/07/14/first-promo-video-for-disney-marvel-crossover-phineas-and-ferb-mission-marvel/ and thought of you!

"Disney and Marvel team for a new animated TV special, Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel, which is slated to premiere in summer 2013 on Disney Channel. Currently in production, the new animated adventure will bring together Phineas and Ferb and Marvel's Super Heroes including Spider-Man and The Avengers (Iron Man, Thor and Hulk). Phineas and Ferb creators/exec producers Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh are working closely with Marvel's creative team to create versions of Marvel's heroes and villains, including Red Skull, Whiplash, Venom and M.O.D.O.K to mesh into Phineas and Ferb's hometown of Danville."
I am SO EXCITED.

I hope you had a good Comic-Con!
Exhausting, but good.
Ooh, a new addition!! My God, woman, I don't know how you do it. I know you sleep; I saw it!
Was she writing or typing at the same time? :)

Ooh, Silver slipper blues sounds interesting. Actually almost all the stuff you list that hasn't been sold sounds interesting but being an Oz geek for many, many years growing up...

That being said, I keep hoping for the delightful news that Lycanthropy and Other Personal Issues has been sold because it sounds absolutely delightful. :-)

I'm constantly in awe of how many balls you keep up in the air!
Sometimes they fall and hit me in the head. :(
If you gind yourself in need of any info on Kansas, I live here :)
Stupid phone; that should be 'find', of course.

I will say only that I don't know how you do it all. One of those magic time-bendy thingies, perhaps? [Serves Seanan tea and accompaniments of choice]

Silver Slipper Blues sounds interesting. And of course my bookish love for everything that is Toby Daye.
I love her so.
yes, but did you get swag? collectibles? fun stuff?

Con report coming later.
Yay Newsflesh-universe novella! And yay Oz books!
Yay!
Sliver Slipper Blues, I think that's a new one for this list. It does sound very interesting.
It is new, yes.
I am hard pressed to think of an example of your characters being happy with you.
Um...

...yeah.
Echo looks fascinating.
I hope it will be.
When I find a writer I like, it's always good to see more series coming. My bookshelves don't think so, but I do.
Hee.
The 2013 Newsflesh-universe novella. Details to come; animal husbandry in Australia is involved.

If you need to do more research for this, I'm sure I'm not the only one who can offer a couch.
That would be amazing! I'll keep you posted.
