Reminder: Hugo voting is coming to a close.

Ladies and gentlemen of the 2012 World Science Fiction Convention membership...have you remembered to cast your vote for this year's Hugo Awards? Because if you haven't, you're sort of running out of time; July 31st is your last day to vote.

I am reasonably sure that each and every person on that ballot wants to win. I am no different. But almost as much as I want to win, I want to know that if I lose, it will be because every possible voter looked at the works up for consideration, looked at their ballot, and made their choice fairly and well. I want you all to vote. I want to lose because I lost, not because there was a sale at Ben and Jerry's and we all got rightfully distracted because dude, ice cream.

Please. If you are eligible to vote, it has never been easier to get a clear view of the entire ballot. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Hugo committee, we have an electronic voting package that is a bibliophile's dream; you can read and consider absolutely everything that's asking for your vote. And if you're not a member yet, but were thinking about it, you can still register with full voting rights if you do it soon.

And because I really love this quote, I am once again quoting Cat Valente. Specifically: "A final note: you do not have to go to Worldcon to nominate and vote for the Hugos. You can buy a supporting membership for $50 and get that perk. I realize $50 is a lot to express an opinion, but every year we hear complaints about the ballot and every year I hope that my generation will vote a little more, because the Hugos are kind of a bellwether for the field, and I want new crackly risktaking goodness in there, too. Since I have no control over the price of the supporting membership all I can say is—give it a thought, if you have the scratch."

Make this year's Hugo winners the ones you think deserve those shiny rocket ships.

Vote.

The first link did not work. :( It looked like there was an extra " in it.
Whoops! Try it now?

Plus, $50 gets you the voter's packet, which has a bunch of shiny ebooks in it, plus audio files for Wicked Girls. Seriously, I spent over a month just reading the novel*, novella, novelette, short story and Campbell Award selections, and I wonder if I'll get through the Short Form Editor, Graphic Novel and Related Works before the end of the month.

* Okay, I did skip the George RR Martin book, since fifth(?) in a series known for 'well, my editor told me I had to split this book into two because we literally cannot bind this many pages' is a bit more of an investment than I wanted to make when I decided the series wasn't for me back around Book 3.
As far as I can tell it is a better deal to buy the packet then try and buy everything that is available on the open market.

Wait, what? Ice cream?
Mmmmm, ice cream.
Thanks for the reminder!
Welcome!
Fifty dollars is nothing for all the wonderful reading you get, and the knowledge that you're involved in something so big and important, in my view anyway.
I tend to agree, but I also have the fifty dollars to spend.
Voted a couple of weeks ago.
Yay! Have a cookie.
At this point, I've read all the short stories and novelettes, and have two novellas and one novel yet to read. Plus the Campbell samples. I shouldn't have any problem making the deadline on those. For the two Dramatic Presentation categories, I need to watch Game of Thrones and the Community episode. The other categories will depend on how much more time I have for reading/listening.
Awesome. Twenty points to you, good sir!
Currently working my way through the packet. Soon as I'm done, my votes go in. Considering I'll be carrying the actual statues around, I better do my part in doling them out!
Exactly!
Cannoli are a sure-fire cure for depression. I know a great place for cannoli ... yum ... Just sent you online message re same. And over-the-wire hugs.

Hu-go, Hu-go, Hu-go, Hu-go!!!!
Woo!
Welllll, yaknow, it *is* still almost a month to go ... I went *gack* when I saw the header, but then was relieved cuz it really isn't coming to a close *quite* yet.
Granted, all a matter of perspective, and I am last-minute-girl, but ... breathe :)
The thing I always have to remember is that not everybody reads fast. I can still drop the $50 to get the voters' packet and make the deadline, but it's too late for many people.

(I should really do that...)
If you haven't started your reading, which some folks haven't, we've already hit the point where you can't get through all the categories before voting. Hence the friendly reminder. :)
I was just wondering; is there a reason that Countdown and Feed were both available in .epub format in their Hugo Voter Packet appearances, but Deadline was not? I had purchased it before it was nominated anyway, so it doesn't really affect me, but I'm curious as to the reasons behind this.

Thank you :)
I have nothing whatsoever to do with those decisions. They're entirely made by the individual publishers and by the Hugo administration.

Don't worry, Ben & Jerry's isn't going to distract me. I don't do Ben & Jerry's.
Yay!
