It's official. I sold my soul at the crossroads.

Like, seriously. How else do you explain Blackout being the first of my books to make the print New York Times list (in position #15 on the Mass Market Paperbacks sub-list) and now making NPR's list of the best science fiction and fantasy of the summer?

In other news, HOLY CORN MAZES, YOU GUYS, BLACKOUT IS ON THE NPR LIST OF THE BEST SCI-FI OF THE SUMMER!!!!!!!

Ahem.

I am very, very excited, as is only natural when INCREDIBLY AWESOME THINGS of INCREDIBLE AWESOMENESS decide to happen. This is so amazing. I am so amazed. Also, there have been confirmed sightings of the Newsflesh trilogy at WalMart, and no matter what you think of WalMart, that's a lot of eyes potentially falling on (and maybe even buying) my books. Dear world: please buy my books. I have a lot of cats to feed.

NPR! NYT! OMG!

Squee.

I've been suspecting demons were involved somehow for years. Thank you for finally confirming it!

Also, congratulations! You and Newsflesh deserve all of the awesome things happening.
Oh, we're pretty sure. I mean, could be wrong? But pretty sure.
WOOOO! Didn't the other two books make the list too? I think Feed did, at least.
Feed made #75 on NPR's Audience Picks: Killer Thrillers, but I don't remember anything else.

(Then again, I have a memory like a thingamajig.)

Holy smokes! Huzzah!!!
Glee. I haz it.
Congratulations! Fantastic, and entirely deserved.
Thank you!
Nice to see the world recognizing how thoroghly constructed of awesomesause you and Mira are.
Thank you. :)
Go Seanan--er, Mira, I mean. ;) Awesomeness deserving of a week of cake and cheese!
Those are the best weeks.
EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

My husband says, "You know you've made it when your books are on the shelves of Wal-Mart or supermarkets. Because everyone shops there. All the time. Everyone."
Exactly. I have been PRAYING for Wal-Mart.
Alistair was pointing out earlier how many of your supernatural characters have a day job for a living, and we came to the conclusion this was clearly autobiographical, and we just haven't spotted the pointy ears yet. At which point, there's an alternative to the crossroads theory: there's obviously someone in the Faerie nobility that's still paying off a favour you did a while ago. Admittedly, unnaturally large cats are almost certainly still involved ;-)
Unnaturally large cats are key.
Yay! Happy dance!

I know WalMart always carries the top twenty NYT list, so way to MAKE it! May new markets open up for you, and the additional attention help you get the movies made.
Thank you!
Congrats!! :D

When Deadline was released there was a 'Mira Grant' stand in the Birmingham Waterstones. I'll see if they've got one for Blackout!
Oooo, I hope so.

Congratulations! Can't think of anyone who deserves it more :)
Thank you!
Sweet! I hadn't realized you actually made the print list, I assume someone's made sure you have a print copy for framing? :) Congratulations on both that and the NPR list. I know Sarah and I have both written in to KQED suggesting that you'd be an interesting person to interview on Forum. So if you hear from them, it may be our fault. :)
I do! We drove to three Barnes & Nobles to find enough copies.
So incredibly happy for you and proud of you!!
Thank you!
Congratulations!

Also, is this really a real thing? PLZ SAY YES.

My grocery store has the trilogy displayed in two places, both on the wall by the service desk, nice and high, and on a free-standing display of mostly biggish-name authors by the magazines.
Oh, that is amazing.
Cool
<3
Of course-this is a great series!
Thank you!

Well, what did you expect? It's among the best sci-fi of the Summer of 2012; why shouldn't it be on a list of things in a category that so clearly includes it? :-D

I'm utterly, utterly delighted for you, but hardly surprised. I foresee a lot more of the same in your future.
I'm just delighted is all. Sometimes it's weird to have things go right.

Thank you!
So happy for you and the cats! :) You deserve it. I really, really loved the series, I'm just disappointed there's not more G&S love to wait for :) (Although I'm really interested in the other ones with Mahir narrating... Mahir is my 3rd most favorite character.)

I seriously, seriously, seriously hope that something comes of the movie option being picked up. I could see Newsflesh becoming the next Hunger Games movie series :)

I'm working through some Lisa Shearin books at the moment, but once I'm done, I think I'm going to go back to Toby since I've only read 1+2 (and I hear 3+ is even better than the first two :)).

I think the only other authors I follow as closely as I follow you are blue_succubus and tammypierce. Richelle was a member of the writing community I help admin, Romance Divas (before her career skyrocketed off and she had to retire from communities, sadly). I remember her talking about Succubus Blues before it was picked up, and all the way through the process-- awesome to see someone you "know" go through that kind of experience. And since I moved, she's a local author, too, so I keep extra tabs on her to support her.

And Tammy is actually a personal friend; her writing inspired me to be a writer myself when I read her Alanna books back as a teen (or was it pre-teen? I can't remember when I read the first book). I saw that she was going to be at a local con, and I knew elialshadowpine was a big fan of hers, so I convinced her to fly up and come to the con so we could both meet Tammy in person. We had a lovely lunch with her and her husband, and that con was what led to Nonny and I falling in love. Tammy has kept in touch, and we try to catch up with her any time she's in the area; she's always been great to us.

But anyways, my point is-- you're an amazing, inspiring writer. I can't wait for you to release another book so I can devour it. I boggle at your productivity, and long to be able to write again. Instead of getting depressed at my health preventing me from writing (between pain and pain meds, I'm pretty fried), your books and worlds and progress just keep me looking forward to the day when I can get back to work. Thank you for all that you do, because I can promise you, it's a lot more than you'll ever realize. :)

*hugs*
Thank you.

I'm so excited!

And Tammy is awesome.

Thank you for being here.
Best reason ever to buy books: 'Buy a book - the kitties are hungry!'
It's the only reason, really.
CHEESE! AND! CAKE!
YAY!
You deserve whatever praise you get for your books, no soul-selling necessary. :) I haven't had a chance to read either my e- or paper copy of Blackout, but I did loan Feed and Discount Armageddon to a coworker. Zombies and cryptozoologists make for great vacation reading.
Oh, thank you.
