Thomas says that it's time for an open thread, because I have used up all of my erudite and coherent, and have been staring at my screen, not actually doing anything, for hours. This time would be better spent petting the cat, ergo, it needs to stop. So here is a picture of Thomas cuddling his beloved plush Perry the Platypus to get you started. Nothing starts a conversation like a Maine Coon hugging a secret animal agent.
But anyway. Open thread! Say anything! Woo! Thomas says so.
Comment amnesty is on for this post, but I will be reading, and may reply anyway, because I'm wacky like that.
Okay, there's a question i've been meaning to ask, but i don't want to pressure you into it, so a comment amnesty post is the perfect time :)
A friend and i have been debating about talent vs hard work. One of us thinks hard work is the key to producing something great, the other one thinks it takes both hard work and talent.
So as a very hard working and officially verified great artist, if you were going to be given only one compliment, would you rather someone tell you that they thought you worked very hard, or that they thought you were very talented? And would getting the other compliment bother you or make you feel insulted?
And on a less serious note, have you heard about the Zombies, Run! app? It's an exercise game about running away from zombies! It just came out on Android but has apparently been on iPhone for awhile.
Say there's a tall tree with the fruit of Greatness. Now, along comes my friend Rick, who's 6'2", and he sees the fruit of Greatness, and decides he wants one. But the fruit of Greatness is at the top of this tree, so he has to build a ladder to reach it. Then he takes the ladder and walks away.
Next, my mother comes along. She stands 4'11", so when she decides to get a fruit of Greatness, she has to build a bigger ladder, because not only is she shorter, but her arms are shorter in proportion. It takes longer, but she does it.
Then I come along. And I don't want to do the work, so I don't get a fruit of Greatness. I could do it - and it would be easier for me than it was for my mom, because I'm taller than she is - but I just don't bother.
So, hard work is important. Talent just means that it's easier to get the fruit.
Ok...remind me (not literally, that's just a figure of speech here) to point you to the picture I have of Brad Majors and Perry singing YMCA at our cast's last Rocky show.
And, if you're in a question answering mood, did you ever say whether the CDC still likes you after Blackout? (And if so, what was the answer.)
This would be the day that I graduated; or at the very least participated in the commencement ceremony.
I'm pretty sure I'll pass my classes, so once the grades are in, they'll mail me my diploma, certifying that I am now a baccalaureate - with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
Our Herc was having some behavioral problems. We looked into it, and discovered that Risu was bored, and playing and pouncing on him as he went about his daily business. It was stressing him out, because he couldn't go anywhere or do anything without getting ambushed. The best solution for that is to get a companion for the more energetic cat.
So, after some debate, yesterday afternoon, we went to our local shelter to pick up a kitten. He's 8 weeks old, and has been hiding under the bed since he ventured out of the carrier. He's tiny, but very brave.
newroticgirl used her powers as a Cat Whisperer last night to find our neighbor's lost kitty. It was the kitty (and his sister's) birthday, and our neighbor (who had previously been snappish to our heroine) was beside herself with worry. For the 1st time in his life, 12 years, he opened the screen door and let himself out. He's a solid gray kitty. And it was of course, after nightfall.
newroticgirl quickly spotted a cat, and after trying to get said cat to come closer to her, she discovered another cat nearby... who was the lost kitty. Not only did newroticgirl find the kitty, but she talked him into letting her pick him and take him home. I walked by the same spot twice, and did not see the kitty.
All's well that ends well, as kitty-mom and kitty were reunited with much happy tears.
It's Perry the Platypus! What an unexpected surprise!
Your cat is very cute.
Today I got all the laundry folded. (I also got lots of exercise, but the laundry folding thing was pretty important. And because I really wanted to play computer games instead, I made computer-game sound effects every time I folded something. The really silly part (other than making the noises themselves) is that it was actually motivating.
Avengers was freaking hilarious, and I REALLY want to see what they do in the next movie. Loki was NOT defeated, he arranged things this way. He's the Trickster. This is a beat, that's all.
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee kittyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! (this is the best I can do in the middle of the night when confronted with an adorable cat hugging his toy!)
I'm presently in the midst of moving to the upper floor of a duplex. It has a somewhat rickety external staircase that's the only way up. While doing the unpacking thing, it was remarked that my new place is remarkably good in case of a zombie invasion: All I have to do is take out the bottom six feet of steps, and have a ladder available, and I can come and go (somewhat) as I please, without risking the zombie horde invading.
Also I just read Fed. Awesome, awful...and somehow reminded me of one of those 'bad endings' that some of the more cinematic video games have if you make the wrong choices and doom the world.
I recently got a job after 7 months unemployed (only 32 hours as of yet, but better than none).
I received an handmade card in the mail from a friend, featuring dancing mice, balloons, and HAIL on the front. The inside reads "Hail the new job, the punching of the clock, and the cashing of the paychecks".
This may have been asked/answered elsewhere, and i missed it. For the Newsflesh series (which i loved), I was curious... Why the odd form-factor? It's slightly taller and narrower than the standard paperback layout. My guess would be either to have it stand out in the bookstore, and/or to evoke the feel of a media that's subtly different/evolved from today's norms.
Department of Say Anything: I made strawberry-rhubarb jam AND rhubarb simple syrup AND a rhubarb souflee-cake (like a cafloutis, but I'm not sure if it counts) today, using rhubarb from my girlfriend's parents' enormous garden!
I'm very proud of myself. Also: Having done my first round of canning, I declare my personal Canning Season 2012 to be open. Huzzah! :-D

In other news, my face is quite sunburned.

His name is Tybalt.
