Things and stuff (and things).

1. So I have been forced, by the technical limitations inherent to LJ, to change my Friending policy. Specifically, I am now at MAXIMUM FRIENDOCITY, and adding any more Friends will cause me to be instantly sucked into a horrifying shadow dimension where demons will feast on my delicious bones. Read also, "LJ won't let me Friend any more people." So while I am still a Friend/Unfriend amnesty zone, I will no longer be automatically Friending back. Also, I have now typed the word "Friend" so many times that it has lost all meeting. I shall have to Foe some people.

2. You know it's summer when the Maine Coons felt their bellies by sleeping in their water dish, and you have to take them back to the groomer to be shaved. Again. In other news, guess who gets to take forty pounds of cranky kitty to the groomer? Good guess.

3. I've been scarce recently because a) I've been trying to catch up on some things, and b) I have 600+ comments to answer and it scares me. I will endeavor to post more, if y'all will be understanding about it taking me a while to answer you. S'good? S'good.

4. Disneyland was awesome, except for the part where I twisted my ankle and spent Sunday in a wheelchair. It turns out that I'm still surprisingly good at navigating myself when I need to, and Vixy pushed me when we weren't in spaces that required fine cornering and control. Neither of us died, but wow, was that not an experience that I am in a hurry to repeat.

5. I will, however, say this: if you see a girl pushing a manual wheelchair down a hill, maybe stepping right in front of that wheelchair is not the world's best plan. Especially if that wheelchair contains a person larger than the girl doing the pushing. Because you know what neither of us was able to do in that situation? Stop. In other news, I ran over some idiot-ankles, and I am not sorry.

6. The Hugo Voter Packet has been updated, and now contains the files for Best Related Work. That means that, for the first time ever, a full length filk CD is included in the Hugo packet. So. Cool. It's not too late to register and get your voting rights into the bag! Check out https://chicon.org/membership.php for details.

7. The new season of So You Think You Can Dance has started, and that means that my urge to write InCryptid is returning to normal. This show is totally restorative, in the best, weirdest way possible. I am a happy bunny.

8. Other things that make me happy: the San Diego Comic-Con exclusives have been announced for this year, and they include a new Monster High doll (Scarah Screams) and a new My Little Pony (Derpy Hooves/Bubblecup). I am a sucker for toys.

9. Other things I am a sucker for: Australia. My Mira Grant Q&A on Saturday was the most marsupial-centric Q&A I've ever been a part of. It was sort of impressive, in a "why are we talking about this again?" sort of a way. It may have had something to do with the fact that I had a plush Perry the Platypus on the podium...

10. Jean Gray is still dead.

Oh Maine Coons... I think the only reason mine have not tried to lay in the water dish has been that it is too small. They have, however, taken up residence in the bathtub and sinks when I'm not at home. No matter how hot it is, nothing will seperate them from laying on me when I am there.
No, they really don't understand "it's a hundred and four degrees outside, please get off of me," do they?

I was filled with sadness when I wasn't auto-friended back. Then I felt smug, because thought I must be pretty bad-ass to not be friended - you know, my awesomeocity was too great, or I was very intimidating (I do have an Orca in my icon, and they beat up great white sharks). Now I'm back to sad, because it was just a technicality.

:(
Yeah, it makes me sad, too. :(

But your Orca is pretty damn bad ass.
I so wanted to come on Saturday but had to work:( The work was fun and all but would rather have gone out and discussed paltypy and possibly brought the ballerina. She's into zombies. She's also just crossed into that world of "i can read anything" and I must now figure out what's gonna give her nightmares and how much to protect. She started Bunnicula yesterday so we'll see how she handles the veggie-sucking rabbit before we introduce scarier monsters:)
Bunnicula was one of my first beloved monsters!
2) I have 2 longhaired cats so I feel your pain. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has to deal with extra-special matted kitties in the summer.
They make mats to show that they care.

A couple of responses to your things (and stuff! and things!):

1. ... Also, I have now typed the word "Friend" so many times that it has lost all meeting. I shall have to Foe some people.

Foe sho! *evil grin* Oh, and LJ should allow for "Acquaintancing" people, perhaps even a "I vaguely acknowledge your existence" option?

7. The new season of So You Think You Can Dance has started, and that means that my urge to write InCryptid is returning to normal. This show is totally restorative, in the best, weirdest way possible. I am a happy bunny.

A very dear friend got me addicted to SYTYCD back at Season 8, and we're finishing off Season 7 (we just finished the finale show but not the finale results), and she wants to have me watch Season 4 next. I didn't like reality shows prior to this, and was generally indifferent to dance. No more.

9. ... My Mira Grant Q&A on Saturday

I am so sorry to have missed the event. Ah well, there will be other book-related events, I'm sure.
Your friend is right. Season 4 is magic.

I love that you included Bubblecup as one of her names :) it's my favorite
It's canonically her name, right?
Happy to have made it in before the cutoff! \o/

S'good? S'good.

S'all good. :-)

If Maine Coon fur felts so nicely on the cat, it probably would spin up nicely into yarn - once off the cat, of course. It might need to be combined with another carrier fiber. I've spun some up lovely golden retriever/persian cat/merinio wool before (there's a lady a suburbs over who specializes in prepping and/or spinning yarn from pet hair, and she was giving out samples). Great. Yet one more mildly insane crafting urge to resist.
I have actually seen a book someplace recently specifically about knitting with cat hair. I think there were patterns....

I'm really glad my cats seemed to have missed the whole "must play in water" thing.
Mine regularly flood the kitchen.

Ouch. I hope your ankle is a lot better.
Ah, hot cats... Mine loll in the shade and look meaningfully at the fan.
Clever kitties.
#2 - Interesting, I hadn't thought about that as a method of cooling off in the summer, but it makes sense with all that fur. That's good to know to keep an eye on. Now that one of our housemates' cats has decided she really belongs to the neighbors, we're seriously considering getting a Maine Coon.

#3 - Speaking purely for myself, I'd much rather see more posts from you than receive a quick response to my comments. I appreciate your responding to them, but I also know that you have more important priorities in your life, which is as it should be.

#9 - Sounds like a fun discussion. We were sad to miss Saturday, but Josh was busy charming people at Valhalla Renn Faire in Tahoe, with his parents along to supervise. :). He got his first wooden dagger - I shall have to carve "Sting" in runes on the blade for him. Here's a photo of Josh & I (Sarah's behind the camera). Valhalla Faire 2012-1

We'll have to say hi at the next event. Which reminds me, I know the Avid Reader's Events Coordinator sent you a note via your website. They're interested in inviting you up to Davis for a signing, and he asked me to check and make sure you got it, since the Internet is only mostly reliable as a communications medium. He'd started to worry about the lack of response, then remembered that you're also Mira, and thus have been busy with the release of Blackout. I mention it here for redundancy in case his email got devoured by gremlins since I know you'll look at this eventually, and we'd love to see you locally someday. I'll presume you get it unless I get a blank look if I ask in person whenever we next see you. :)
The micro human just gets cuter and cuter EVERY DAY. I am enchanted.

I did get the email, I'm just trying to dig out from under enough to answer it.

(1) How about a 'fiend' list?

(10) "All I ever did was die on you."
- Jean Grey to Scott Summers
10) Yes. Exactly.
I haven't updated my blog in about 14 months. So if you want to foe someone you probably wont miss anything.
Heh.

Oh, you are so very welcome. Thank you.
The new season of So You Think You Can Dance has started,

Yay!

and that means that my urge to write InCryptid is returning to normal.

Double yay!!

This show is totally restorative, in the best, weirdest way possible.

Ain't it just? Amelia the flapper was adorable, Shafeek was amazing and impressive, I instantly fell in love with Bree and her kids, both the Zombie and the Exorcist were fantastic (though I don't know how well either will do with other styles), and that doesn't even get to Eliana, and the martial artist, and . . .
I am so excited about the talent that's coming out for this season, I don't even.
I find it deeply appropriate that you and Vixy were rolling a slightly out of control wheelchair down a hill....reminds me of something I read in a book recently...

However, sorry it was because your ankle was hurt.
I'm pleased to say that neither of us ended up going off Paradise Pier into the water.

I just tried to say "plush Perry the Platypus on the podium" out loud and it was a bad decision. :-)
I like saying it. It rolls trippingly off the tongue.
1. I am absolutely opposed to your delicious bones being eaten by demons, at least while you are still using them. I would take it as a kindness if you would avoid this condition. Thank You.

2. Oh Joy.

3. *hugglez*

4. Ow.

5. I would push you. I am big enough to stop you. Even on a hill. Your safety is my primary concern.

6. Yay!

7. See 6.

8 See 7.

9. Mwahahahahahaha?

10. That's still good, right?

10a. I like your list posts.
5. We didn't ever actually lose control. There was always stopping! It's just, y'know, momentum + gravity = not stopping on a *dime*.

In synchronicity with your wheelchair adventure, I just read Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman for the first time and thought of you a great deal.

I hope your ankle is behaving itself again.

<3
Bit by bit, it recovers.
Also, I have now typed the word "Friend" so many times that it has lost all meeting. I shall have to Foe some people.

OOO! OOO! PICK ME! PICK ME!
Hee.
And what about the marsupials? Inquiring minds do want to know!

(I'm sorry about your ankle :()
They're awesome!
Jean Grey is dead? Man, I picked a bad century to stop reading comics.
She's dead! Ding dong, the witch is dead!
I now have that song in my head again. "underneath the table", "on the podium", whichever! :D
I'd stop if I were able...
Having done Disney as the person in the chair and as the person pushing, it's about the only way to spoil the experience for me. I seem to have a gift for pre-Disney sprained ankles, but only when I'm flying - also necessitating airports on crutches, which are also no fun.

You'd think at a place designed by intention for families, people would maybe be more observant of where they're swinging the cigarettes they're not supposed to be smoking while they walk. I actually had to grab a woman's arm to stop her from swinging it into me whilst seated in a stationary wheelchair. She was unamused and rude, I pointed out that I'd be happy to call security, as she wasn't in a smoking area.

And people aren't any bett about noticing the motorized chairs they rent. I've had people step on the ECV, then say I hit them. How do you miss seeing one of those things?

Still, I'll take injured at Disney over a lot of other travel. They're expecting people with mobility issues and they plan the parks accordingly.
Absolutely. The park is beautifully lain out for mobility issues, and the CMs are nothing but helpful and polite. It's the other guests that are the problem...
When I was using a mobility scooter and having to take the subway to get to classes, there was a gap and often mismatch of level between the platform and train floor. To make it, I would need a little running start. People felt a desperate need to zip around me to get into the train car before me then STOP just inside the door, directly in front of me. I gave up trying to spare their ankles, and had I taken classes any longer I was going to start putting little foot/ankle stickers on the side of the scooter, inspired by WWII bombers :-P
I think that would have been a beautiful thing.
