Ten things make a list. I like lists.

10. If you read yesterday's post about ebook distribution around the world, you may want to go back and read it again; I made some pretty hefty edits after having a contract discussion with The Agent, and I think it's more accurate now.

9. While I will not say that Joss Whedon is my master now—I remain too critical for that, and still haven't forgiven him for several things—he has made my two favorite theatrical releases of this year, Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers.

8. Although if we don't get another female hero in the sequel, I am going to be one cranky kitty. I knew that would be an issue for me going in; I was not wrong.

7. We're down to three girls on this season of America's Next Top Model, and I don't hate any of them. What? How can this be? I think the world has been intrinsically damaged by the inanity of this season's "US v. UK" concept.

6. You know what's awesome? Disneyland, that's what's awesome. You know what's better? I'm going there in two weeks, with Vixy. Are we now planning to hit every Disney park in the world? Yes. Yes, we are. Next up, Disneyland Paris.

5. Eleven days to Blackout! Who's excited? I'm excited!

4. If you somehow get an early copy, please don't tell me. There's nothing I can do about it, and it'll just raise my blood pressure. But feel free to post a review. Reviews are awesome.

3. You know what makes everything better? Poison dart frickens make everything better. Look at their tiny technicolor deadliness!

2. Jean Grey is still dead.

1. I'm seeing The Devil's Carnival tonight! Yay!

Hope you're all having a great Friday, and are looking forward to an even greater weekend.

My two favorite films of the year as well.

I like what Joss tends to do
more than I like what anyone else
tends to do,
but I'd agree that he doesn't have
some magic power of flawlessness.
Exactly.
There are enough female Marvel characters to have a freaking girl's club in the next one. I say bring it.
I know, right?
For now, I'd be satisfied with Black Widow (and Agent Coulson) toys. I've found an action figure, a SHS & the promise of a lego for her, but no mini-mugg, super-deformed stuffies or "dress up" (like Hulk's fists or Thor's Hammer). If your going to give little girls a super hero, why aren't you investing in their playtime? They already have dress up stuff for Brave, and Princess Merida is already in the parks in the princess coral, with an archery range and....

This train of thought has me thinking of having Black Widow in the Disney Princess coral, teaching little girls assassination techniques. Win!
That would be EPIC.
I gave up on ANTM this cycle. I just couldn't with the UK vs US nonsense.

Have fun at Disneyland. I wish I was going with you!! <3
I wish you were, too!

I don't think they can do Civil War until/unless they get the X-Men rights back.

Rain forests, eh? Does that include temperate ones like Washington state's Olympic peninsula?

Not that we know of; just the tropical.
I love how faintly confused the Poison Dart Frickens are.

As if...they too are baffled by their existence.

...but I gotta say they don't look anywhere NEAR as humiliated to exist (or to be made to pose, more accurately: I hope he is fine with existing) than Artie.

Poor Artie.
The poison dart frickens are like, s'up? Artie's like, GET AWAY FROM ME WITH THAT CAMERA.
5. I AM EXCITED!!!!

2. I don't buy it. Dark Phoenix FOREVER.
Hee.
I saw this cartoon and thought of you:

Sadly the place where I saw it did not think to credit the artist ::shakes fist::
Ooh, clock spiders!

I once looked at a clock, and noticed something weird, and it took me ages to realise that the weird thing was that the tips of eight legs were poking out around the edges of the clock.

The clock about the size of a dinner plate.

One of the adults (I was a child at the time) had to get a bucket to take it outside.

OMG YAY!

I was undecided what to do this weekend (besides going to see The Avengers).

Now I know. I'm going to re-read Feed and Deadline in preparation for Blackout.

And just in case Amazon decided to early release I didn't put it on preorder. But I do have a reminder set to place my order on May 20th. :)
Yay!

I'd be curious to hear what you think of The Devil's Carnival! I saw it in Chicago.
I've already seen it, actually, in New York. I quite like it.
Phew! You had me going there. The frickens aren't real, right? RIGHT?
Probably not.
The Avengers is amazing. I sort of forgive the lack of extra female heroes because Natasha was so very, very awesome.

I love that she has weaknesses, but isn't weak. If anything, she uses her weaknesses as weapons, like she feints with emotion - she can let someone think they've wounded her, because she is in control of the pain they think they see, and through that she can control them. She has mastered her own vulnerability, and has turned it into a tool.

I could go on at length, but I have things to do. They involve reading. Because I am partway through Late Eclipses and possibly slightly hating you right now, because dramatic tension is killing me.

I have ADHD. I don't normally read novels, as a rule, because they're too much of a sustained mental commitment. I have read three and a bit novels since Thursday, and it is still only Saturday, and no, seriously, my brain is actually hurting now but I can't make myself stop.
It's been suggested elsewhere that there's a parallel between Natasha and Banner on that point in particular, of turning vulnerability into strength...?

Re: #5: Very excited! Have it on preorder on my Nook (which means you don't have to worry about early releasing there...) and will be anxiously awaiting when it is downloadable :)
Yay!
I haven't been to Disneyland Paris in ages. It's such a magical place. I need to go back. Sooner rather than later.
I've never been. So excited!
Re #5:

The interwebs are hinting that the Blackout audiobook should be available on June 1. Any notion of whether this is accurate, or is someone wrong on the internet somewhere? (And if I have missed a detail somewhere in your posts, humblest apologies.)

HAIL,
A fan who is driving 20-odd hours from Denver to Indianapolis the weekend of June 1.
I do not know. :( I'm sorry.

I just read on-line elsewhere that May is Zombies Awareness Month, at least according to zombieseatpeople.net. I found myself wondering whether your publishers knew that when they chose May as the release months for the Newsflesh trilogy.

I am so excited it is coming out! I've been re-reading, and Georgia's Wall entry scene still had me as a hot mess.
Yay!
I think there will be another female Avenger in the sequel, they've got so many great ones to pick from: The Scarlet Witch, The Wasp, Miss Marvel, etc... I'd like to see more of Maria Hill, too, she kicked butt. There has been talk of a Black Widow movie, but I guess that depends on Scarlett Johansson's schedule. They may introduce another female character in one of the other sequels: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, etc... the way they introduced the Black Widow in Iron Man 2, so that audiences are already comfortable with her.
I surely do hope so.
Just over a week to Blackout eeeeeeeeeeee!

Yes, yes I am looking forward to it. Just a WEE BIT.
YAY!
I saw that that all e-reader versions of Blackout have a release dat of 6/1/12. Is this accurate? Man, I hope not. I can barely wait for this one and I have Feed and Deadline electronically. The anal retentive one in me says I have to have Blackout electronically as well.
You would sadly need to ask Orbit, not me. I have nothing to do with release dates. :( I'm sorry.

Poison Dart Frickens are AWESOME! Everything is dressed for a party in the tropics. *G*

Doing the mental math, the release date for Blackout is May 22nd, yesno? If so, B&N.com got it very, very wrong, because I got my copy of Blackout at the end of last week, and when I ordered it about six days before that, it wasn't as a pre-order, which had me really confused because I didn't recall seeing anything about the book hitting shelves yet. It's not the first time I've gotten a book from B&N pre-release day, either. A few years ago, I thought I'd missed one of the Toby books being released and asked in a store about where to find it on the shelves. It wasn't there so they got a copy in for me. Only later did I find out I was a few days early. Just thought you should know. I'm wicked pissed, because I wanted it to count toward your NYT-qualifying sales and how rude of them to ignore release dates. I guess that means I'll have to buy another copy, which shall be donated to the library up the road from me.
Yeah, they messed it up. :( I'm sorry.

Look! FEATHERED FROGGIES! *focuses on the good*

I am with you on Avengers! Although throughout the movie I kept thinking about what your post (on John Scalzi's blog?) when Discount Armageddon came out about women with no supernatural powers kicking ass and taking names. I really enjoyed seeing Black Widow do exactly that, but I also completely agree that there should have been/be in the sequel another female character, this time with superpowers along with the boys.

I was also irritated after the movie thinking about one small change that would have at least let the film pass the Bechdel test - instead of bringing back Dr. Selvig from Thor, bring back Natalie Portman's character. How awesome would it have been at the end seeing Jane and Natasha closing the portal and saving the world?
My issue with the "only superpowered women can save the day" trope is when the women are the only ones with superpowers. So Buffy proves that unpowered women can't save the day. But if all the men have superpowers, and the women don't, it's a different horrible message.

It's been confirmed that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be in the Avengers sequel. I've also heard discussion about a solo movie for Ms. Marvel, but nothing has been confirmed on that.
Yup.
