Ten things make a list. I like lists.

10. If you read yesterday's post about ebook distribution around the world, you may want to go back and read it again; I made some pretty hefty edits after having a contract discussion with The Agent, and I think it's more accurate now.

9. While I will not say that Joss Whedon is my master now—I remain too critical for that, and still haven't forgiven him for several things—he has made my two favorite theatrical releases of this year, Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers.

8. Although if we don't get another female hero in the sequel, I am going to be one cranky kitty. I knew that would be an issue for me going in; I was not wrong.

7. We're down to three girls on this season of America's Next Top Model, and I don't hate any of them. What? How can this be? I think the world has been intrinsically damaged by the inanity of this season's "US v. UK" concept.

6. You know what's awesome? Disneyland, that's what's awesome. You know what's better? I'm going there in two weeks, with Vixy. Are we now planning to hit every Disney park in the world? Yes. Yes, we are. Next up, Disneyland Paris.

5. Eleven days to Blackout! Who's excited? I'm excited!

4. If you somehow get an early copy, please don't tell me. There's nothing I can do about it, and it'll just raise my blood pressure. But feel free to post a review. Reviews are awesome.

3. You know what makes everything better? Poison dart frickens make everything better. Look at their tiny technicolor deadliness!

2. Jean Grey is still dead.

1. I'm seeing The Devil's Carnival tonight! Yay!

Hope you're all having a great Friday, and are looking forward to an even greater weekend.

Response re: item # 8

I'd recommend Monica Rambeau. Traditionalists may prefer the Wasp.

Both would be preferable if they've got room in the budget.
I'd like the Wasp, personally; if they go with Ultimate Wasp, since almost everyone else is more Ultimate than 616, she's even Asian-American.

I feel like starting a petition to get She-Hulk into the movieverse.
I would sign your petition.

You are, quite literally, the only person other than myself I have seen bring this up. I have seen people complain that Ant Man and Wasp aren't in it but no one else who was critical of the fact that the only female hero this time was Black Widow. I loved her but still. The Avengers is more than just a group of dudes and one woman!
And at that, apparently it was suggested to Joss by the studio that he cut Widow from the film!

Disneyland Tokyo is pretty damn awesome. I have many horribly blurry pictures from my trip to the sea-themed side of it, with the adorable pseudo-Venice and Ariel's Trippy Psychedelic Underwater Grotto (possibly not its real name) and the Aztec temple waterfalls with Real Fire and the whole steampunk-esque Leonardo da Vinci castle and--well. It was pretty awesome!

The pseudo-secret underground restaurant with dining rooms reached through hidden doors behind revolving bookcases? Also totally awesome.
I.

Wait.

What.

Okay, I am moving that one RIGHT THE HELL UP THE LIST.

Also in re: item 8: Though I highly endorse Monica, it occurred to me the other day that Jessica Drew has an intro story that would merge really well with, say, a Captain America movie and provide a good way to introduce her into the setting.

I've actually been making that same argument for Jessica Jones. But Jewel/Jessica is getting a TV show, so.

I'm torn.

1. I sorta wanting another female hero, because of my heart breaking conversation with the Niece. We were playing superhero and her older brother, the Nephew decided he was going to be Captain America. Or the Hulk. Or Iron Man. But Niece had problem because she can only be Black Widow and she doesn't like black, she likes PINK! And then who was their beloved auntie going to be? (My big brother had taken them to the movie, don't ask me why, they are 5 and 3 but they sat through it well)

Me: I can be Loki!

Nephew: You're a girl.

Me ponders explaining that Loki can switch genders in comics and deciding that that's a longer discussion. "I can be...Agent Hill." Yeah, that's pathetic. I like Hill and all, but my niece is looking sad.

2. But from a craft point of view, I hope they don't add any new characters, because six heroes is crowded enough and I loved each character so much and if they bring back someone, could it be Kid!Loki! Or Reformed Loki. Because he can serve as their magic, he's a fan favorite and doesn't have to be re-introduced.

Bah. Head says 2. Heart says 1

Scarlet Witch is pink! Or has pink... ;)

(Adding ammo for 1)

i liked Avengers. i liked Black Widow, but also i _loved_ that the commander of the base (trying not to spoil anything here...) was a woman. a competent, high-ranking woman shown at the job she is obviously good at....and that she's a woman is unremarkable and unremarked on, utterly normal.

and yay Blackout, i cant wait!! :)
tereshkova2001 and I each noticed that same thing (independent of each other, we talked about it afterwards and were all OMG ME TOO). We both liked Agent Hill, and yeah, very much liked that there was not a single OMG IT'S A WOMAN IN COMMAND, not even a throwaway line, she was just there, in command, doing her job.

I'm kind of saddened that this is remarkable, mind. But I still thought it was cool that they handled it that way in particular. I wish we could do this more; I wish we could not only have more female, POC, gay, trans, etc. characters, but also that we could handle them as if they belong there.

They really do.
And more toys (for kids) of said female heroes! ;) (It broke my heart that so many stores opted out of Black Widow stock :( What about the little girls who have seen and will see the movie and want to play?)

I'm really hoping that super hero movies in general, including the Avengers, will become less of a sassuge fest soon. There are so many good female super heroes that could have great movies but they're being ignored (how the hell don't we have a Wonder Woman movie yet). I'd like to see Wasp included in the Avengers though since she was one of the founding members in the comics, but at this rate we're probably going to get an Ant-man movie before she appears in any Marvel film.

Though I loved both The Avengers and Cabin in the Woods.
Word.
#5: I AM! I AM!
Yay!
2. I keep hearing that Jean Grey will come back, either as herself, or somehow in Hope Summers, which is apparently why they gave Hope red hair and green eyes.
I don't even know anymore.
If that's true, they better not hook her up with Scott. It would be creepy. Plus, Emma is awesome with Scott.
Also, I don't buy the comics anymore, I just read the summaries at uncannyxmen.net, which prevents me from going completely broke.

5. Holyshit, eleven days?? I have a BN coupon! Eeee!
Yeah, Hope is the current destined Phoenix host. But I think this may mean they're finally letting Jean stay gone.

Happy Friday, Seanan! :)
10. Oh. OK, I will. Since you said so.
6. Even the new DisneyTown StLouis, which is being built in my back yard? :)
6.a. OK, not really.
5. OO OO ME ME
4. By Your Command (I haven't).
3. WOOHOO I want one.
2. That's good right?
In re: 6) DON'T TAUNT ME.

I pre-ordered my copy of BLACKOUT last night! Can't wait!
Yay!
#6 I still haven't made it to Disneyland but due to a quirk of travel I did go to Disneyland Paris and the Haunted House was amazing compared to Disneyworld. And I liked the Indiana Jones rollercoaster that one was fun. And I swear Big Thunder was a longer ride in Paris than Orlando.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.

I cannot wait for 2014.

I can't waaaaaaaait for Blackout omg. I am all twitchy waiting for blackout. Eleven days to epic reread...
Yay!
Woohoo! Wow, you actually be in my area!

Have you done Disneyland before?

Luckily, you are a tourist, so you don't need to fear the Pirates eating you. (Long story short - Disney often gives residents a discount. When they do, the badges show resident and tourist. We are all big JP fans, and recalled the line about when the Pirates breaking down, they don't eat the tourists. This, of course, to our crazy way of thinking, meant that the badges were to distinguish who the Pirates could eat if the ride broke down. I pity the people who shared the boat with us, I really do. They were clearly not JP fans, and they had no clue what we were talking about, nor why we kept laughing hysterically and picking which person we thought we could run faster than).
That is hilarious and awesome.

I now have to reread the other two in order to be prepared. Huzzah!

A friend of mine used to work as a chef at Disney Paris. From his stories, I think you'll really love it. Though the Tokyo park described in a previous comment sounds just INCREDIBLE!!!!

Personally, haven't been to any of them. Yet. Must fix this.
Wow.

Noms.
Hmmm . . . given what we know so far about the second Avengers movie (trying to avoid the spoiler here), is it just coincidence that Marvel has announced that this fall, Carol Danvers will become the new Captain Marvel, and get her own comic again? Yeah, it probably is. But I think she'd be a cool choice. In a very different way, so would Moondragon.

And you know what else makes everything better? Zombie penguins make everything better.
...yes.

This is truth.
EEEEE! Poison dart frickens are so cute!!!!
Yes!
My new definition of torture:

Having a copy of Blackout on my desk that I cannot buy yet! (the BookGoddess is a stickler for street date) *sigh* But Hail nonethless, I can pet it and love it even if I can't purchase and read it. Yet!!!
Awwwww.

Yay, lovings!
