Music:Shock Treatment, "We Just Gotta Keep Going."
The sun never sets on those who ride into it.
It's time to go back to Jonathan Healy and Frances Brown, as they make their way across America, heading for Buckley Township, Michigan. Only this time, it seems they've reached their destination, which begs the question...what comes next?
All cover graphics are by Tara O'Shea (be sure to admire the awesome cover she did for "Flower of Arizona," which is new to the page). All electronic conversion thus far has been done by scifantasy. As both of them are awesome, we applaud them now.
Having had a chance to read the first story in the anthology I ordered from Borderlands (and it was the best surprise ever to open to the story and find it signed to me! I'd requested the other book be signed, but I didn't want to be presumptuous and ask for you to sign the short story, and I'm still smiling when I think about it) this post reminded me about the first follow-up story, and I read both in one sitting. I loved all three of them, and between the characters introduced in the short stories and those in Discount Armageddon, I can't pick a favorite. The conflict between Frances and Jonathan felt real, as did their fumbles in communication, but their teamwork was also wonderful to read. Then, I appreciated the way you made the stakes real and permanent in the train story; while I enjoy some worlds where the supernatural seems inherently self-contained, the losses sustained underlined the significance of the characters' work and how their world is always shifting, if that makes sense? At any rate, thank you for making the second and third short stories available. Hail!
