Psst. C'mere. Wanna see something really pretty? I mean, really pretty? I'll give you a hint: if you're a Toby fan, it's something you've been waiting for ever since the cover to One Salt Sea was released. I think you'll be pleased. I know I'm pleased.
Go ahead. Take a peek.
Behold the pretty:
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS OH MY GOD IT'S THE COVER TO ASHES OF HONOR AND IT'S GORGEOUS!
I really think this is the best one—and the most Toby one—yet.
Pissed off look (so Toby). Very fey cast to her features (which, well, is only supernatural) Tybalt's Leather jacket The wind in her hair and overall expression make her look like she's -looking at/scowling at something-, not just posing. Realistic chest and hips. Cityscape underscores the "urban" part of urban fantasy.
NOT: Period/fantasy clothing (which, alas, even good illustrators frequently get wrong) Back-breaking poses. Uninteresting poses Details intended to elicit specific moments in the book [which IMEX illustrators inevitably, despite best intentions, get wrong; it's possible that this -is- intended to elicit a specific moment, but the only specific details that aren't "this is Toby -- Hi, Toby" are the car (blurry) and the lamppost.
Although I do wonder a bit at the belt buckle on her left hip. Do people wear belts that way?

It gets so many things right! It -fails- to get so many things wrong!
