Various bits of InCryptid roundup.

First off, if you're interested, the spoiler-filled book discussion post is continuing to rage on over here, and you're welcome to join in. Read, and come to the party!

I've been blogging for Penguin* all this week, that being something they like to have authors do when they have new books out. So head over to hear my thoughts on cryptids as the fairy stories of the modern era, Toby vs. Verity, round one, fight, and the serious science of cryptozoology. It's fun!

catsittingstill wrote a song about the Aeslin mice. I can now die happy. I won't, because I have things to do, but I can.

I have a bunch of reviews to post, but those should probably go in their own roundup. So I will leave you with the reminder that my book release party, and the latest iteration of the Traveling Circus and Snake-Handling Show, will be on March 17th, at Borderlands Books. Hope to see you there!

(*DAW is my publisher, but DAW is distributed by Penguin, which makes it logical for me to blog at Penguin.)

Yay!
I snagged the ebook yesterday and spent all day trapped in it. Awesome. So much fun, such interesting stuff. Loved it. Want more, more more! *flail*
I'll be forcing this series onto my friends as well as the others.

Also, the song is awesome! You have the best fans. :)
I really do.
I can just hear Elmer Fudd going "ssshhhh, Eye be a'hunting Cwypteds"
Hee.
I know it was done in fun, but comparing Toby and Verity is kind of like comparing Apples and Oranges. They are both awesome, but are not copies of each other. Which is one of the awesome things. I'll admit that I was a tiny little bit concerned that Verity might turn out to be Toby in Heels. But she isn't, not even close. Good writers can do that.
That was the entire point. I need to make that clear, both for Toby's fans, and for people I'm hoping will pick up Verity, even if they didn't like Toby. Hence it being an essential post.

Gosh, it never occurred to me that you might die. You're not supposed to do that; how will you write more books if you do that?

:-) I am glad you liked it.

From beyoooooooond the graaaaaaaave...

It was awesome.
Do you remember those National Geographic (or whoever it was) Animal Cards? The Price Bestiary needs a set of them. I'd subscribe to the "criptid of the month" club. :)
That would rule.
I got it today and will be busy reading until further notice. :D
Yay!
Really enjoyed the Penguin blog (a phrase which conjures up more interesting images) and loved Cat's song. Also wished to report that after I hooked my sister on Toby and on Newsflesh by suggesting and loaning books, I offered to loan her Discount Armageddon today. She declined, having already bought her own copy. Come to the dark side - we have mice!
Mice are better than cookies.
I picked it up today, I'm already a quarter of the way through it and have annoyed my husband by laughing out loud.
Yay!
It's Saturday and my city's bookstore fiiiiiiinally got your book on the shelf. I was unimpressed by this delay and I've complained heavily to the corporate office. D:

And we don't even have an indie alternative.

But now I have the book!! Yay!
Yay!
Just finished, and can barely contain my squee. :-D

But before I was even halfway through, I had called 3 very different friends to inform them that they MUST read Discount Armageddon RIGHT BLEEPING NOW! for three very distinct reasons. At least one of them was downloading the ebook before we got off the phone. Mwahahahahaa!

The Penguin blog posts were fun - but so was your post on Scalzi's blog that friend #2 (see previous paragraph) pointed me towards.

This is a fun new 'verse you've created for us to enjoy. May you play in it for a long, long time to come!!! HAIL THE ARBOREAL PRIESTESS!!!
HAIL!
To no point: I have my copy! But I'm in the middle of Late Eclipses, so it's on the pile. :)
Hooray!
Started it yesterday, lent it to someone today. Love, love, love! I like Toby but I confess that I love Verity. Some of it's the tone, some the unabashed mixing of mythology, some is that you used ballroom dancing and the word parthenogenic in the same story and the rest might be the mice. All Hail the Wondrous New Seanan Series!
Hooray!
Love love love it! Want more ballroom dancing, and want to hear More family stories. Obviously (I hope) That Covenant Boy is going to be converted, per family tradition....and I think the wedding scene will be fun. ...and somehow, this universe is getting a little mixed up in the back of my subconscious, with Patricia Wrede's latest Frontier series. isn't that odd....
Odd, but kind of awesome all the same.
We have no indie bookstores in my town and BAMM (which I've nicknamed Books-A-Dozen) didn't have a copy of your Discount Armageddon left by the time I finally managed to get there. Naturally the clue-less college student who was working the cash register let it slip that the store ONLY GOT TWO COPIES IN THIS WEEK.
How can you possibly have a good first week of sales when the stores won't carry a proper number of your books in stock even during the first week of sales?
I really don't want to have to buy an e-reader, since I'll probably manage to drop-kick it into e-reader heaven before I've owned it for a month, but it's looking more and more like I'm going to have to get one.
:(

When I went to my Friendly Local Bookstore, they didn't have any plans to stock Discount Armageddon, but they were willing to order a copy for me. (Well, me and the two or three people who'd already asked.) Roughly thirty hours later, I was finishing the book.
