DISCOUNT ARMAGEDDON open thread!

To celebrate the release of Discount Armageddon, here. Have an open thread to discuss the book.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned.

You can also start a book discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence, since I always wind up getting involved in these things.

Have fun!

I loved it! But I got a little confused around the discussion of Johrlac and Apraxis wasps. It seemed like there was a discussion of the Johrlac characteristics, and then a mention of the lack of Apraxis wasps, and then a discussion of the Apraxis wasp characteristics, and then the story moved on.

Are the Apraxis wasps normally in a mutual symbiotic relationship with the Johrlac? Are they in a parasitic symbiotic relationship with the Johrlac? Am I supposed to be a little confused because one of these is true, and Verity hasn't figured it out yet?

(I mean, you've mentioned Sarah and her wasp in the past, but I wondered if maybe this were a case where dedicated readers of your LJ actually know more than the characters in the book.)
Apraxis wasps are normally super-uber-predators rar, and once they move into an area, they don't move out. Unless a cuckoo moves in. Then they are OUTTA THERE.

Tracking the movement of Apraxis hives with no apparent reason to move is how they managed to figure out cuckoos existed in the first place.
Oh, I get it! So it's just coincidence that the two species are wasplike?

Thank you!
No one really knows. There's some suspicion that cuckoos are Not From Around Here, and Apraxis are maybe from the same place, but it's really unclear.
Yeah, that's what I got from the book. If Apraxis are moving away, check for a cuckoo.
