DISCOUNT ARMAGEDDON open thread!

To celebrate the release of Discount Armageddon, here. Have an open thread to discuss the book.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned.

You can also start a book discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence, since I always wind up getting involved in these things.

Have fun!

Was there an explanation somewhere of why Verity is the Arboreal Priestess and I missed it?

William and Candy were so adorable I nearly exploded with glee.
No.
I think it has to do with how Verity climbs things a lot. She's always all about finding more "up" to go. :)
I wish I could figure out a really clever, highly literate, and most amusing way to tell you what a major, enormously, fine book that was and how very much I enjoyed it. But I can't so I will leave it at "Damn fine read".
Thank you!
Have to say that I enjoyed the book and finished it in one day.

Also? I had to get a biology lesson from wikipedia when I saw the line about sexual dimorphism combined with parthenogenetic reproduction. You rock for making me look stuff up.

All Hail the Bringer of Joyful Learning!

YAY!

This makes me happy. :)
"Let me explain. No, too much. Let me sum up."

Verity Price, a hereditary cryptozoologist trying to break in to the world of professional competitive ballroom dance, is currently working as a waitress at Dave's Fish and Strips, a tacky titty bar. In _Discount Armageddon_, Verity has to deal with an assortment of pissed-off cryptids, a representative of the Covenant of St. George (which is a hereditary order dedicated to the destruction of the monsters), idiot customers who want to play grab-ass, and talking mice who can make a religious ceremony out of anything.

She kicks butt and takes names from start to finish.

Some of my favorite non-spoilery quotes include:

... there's no better way to study an urban cryptid population than by meeting them on their own level. Half the time, that level is straight up. (The other half is usually straight down. Cryptids like to live where humans don't, but they also like to be close enough to steal cable.)

"When in doubt, play dead. Well, unless you might be dealing with a ghoul, or a basilisk, or something else that likes its meat a little ripe. Actually, when in doubt, just start shooting."

"I -- you -- they --" "Pronouns are only useful when you combine them with other words."

Given that he'd just been leering at a stripper with a tail, I really didn't see where he got off. I showed him my middle finger. He showed me his. Vital cultural exchange completed, he walked away.

Some of my favorite SPOILERY quotes include:

"Telepaths have ethics?" "My mother and I do. We mostly got them from Babylon Five, but they still work."

"Oh, God, the mice! ... Bedroom privileges have been revoked for the remainder of the evening!" I shouted, chucking the chicken bag into the middle of the hallway, where it was immediately besieged on all sides by tiny, furry bodies. "I invoke the Sacred Law of Food for Privacy! Feast, and leave me alone!"

"Did we lose because of improper tactical behavior?" "No, we lost because that asshole we work for decided to sell us out." "Oh, good. I will enjoy removing his insides, and displaying them to him as a part of his outsides. I believe I will wear his liver as a hat."

"Wait, you people think I'm a what?"
Heeeee.

Awesome.
thought you'd like to know that i lent (one of my THREE copies of) Discount Armageddon to my bestie on Monday. I'd mentioned your books to him before, but this was the first one he read.

it's now Weds, and he's already read and finished it. he absolutely loved it and is now going to look for all your other books - and is v excited that you've written the sequel :D ( Is there a publishing date for Midnight Blue-Light Special yet? or are your publishers waiting to see how Discount Armageddon does?)
thank you very much!
They're going to be staggered, one per year, as are the Toby books. InCryptid gets spring, Toby gets fall.
yay!
Scampers off to do fan art. I mean celebrate the Festival of Sculpting Demon Mice in Yarn. HAIL!
HAIL!
I posted some speculation about Aeslin Mice at your website forum, on the actual InCryptid board. (It's kinda deserted there.)

I'm not sure if it's the sort of thing you feel you shouldn't be reading or not; just giving you a heads up, and anyone who stumbles on this old thread a chance to head over there.

It's not fanfic, but it's analytical speculation, which can be argued is fanfic without a plot (deliberately).
I know it's dead, but we have eternal hope.

I don't read those forums. :)
I just read Discount Armageddon. I liked it.
