I <3 Istas.

I, like, want a shirt with her on it. Like, maybe her in foreground with full Goth-Lolly glory, and in the background in big bear-wolf glory, and frilly text underneath explaining that she wishes to skip rope using your intestines while wearing your lungs as a hat.

Organ haberdashery!!!!!!!!!
That would be AMAZING.

Well, also, she doesn't generally wear pink in the book. That's the one inaccurate aspect of the cover.

Not finished yet, but so far I love it. How amazing is it that Seanan can write three strong female leads that are not pohotocopies of each other. Yes I see little bits of George in Verity, but they are such different people from each other. The awesome just never stops!

Also, I want some Aeslin Mice.
Yes. I would TOTALLY host a splinter colony of Aeslin Mice.

Bad Verity! No Covenant hottie for you!

So glad I set yesterday aside for reading, because it would have happened anyway, and planned is better than unplanned. I love this world. I want a family of madhura for neighbors and to be a Price girl.

Brava!
Yay!
I'm in Connecticut on business, which interfered with my plan to go to my local bookstores yesterday. I've mapped the nearest Barnes & Noble, and will be heading there a later today.

I glanced at the Amazon reviews, which I know you wisely avoid. (Though right now it's 9 5-star, one 4-star.) My favorite comment so far is "One of my favorite bits is the location descriptions at the beginning of each chapter, which reminded me of the Middleman chyrons." I call that high praise. :)
I saw some of them yesterday, because I was checking to make sure nothing went wrong with the on-sale date. I am well pleased. :)

Love what I've read so far! There's so much of Verity I can identify with (not sure if they're the good parts but oh well!)

Mice mice mice!

.... Are all the books going to be Verity's POV or are we going to get into the rest of the Price family? (Either way would be fine by me)
Right now, only the first two have been commissioned by DAW, and they're both Verity POV. Assuming I get the green light for books three and four, they'll be from Alex's POV.

Well, I thouroughly devoured that around sleep after I got home from work last night. I'm hooked on another series, now just to wait for whatever gets released next.
Yay!

I loved it! But I got a little confused around the discussion of Johrlac and Apraxis wasps. It seemed like there was a discussion of the Johrlac characteristics, and then a mention of the lack of Apraxis wasps, and then a discussion of the Apraxis wasp characteristics, and then the story moved on.

Are the Apraxis wasps normally in a mutual symbiotic relationship with the Johrlac? Are they in a parasitic symbiotic relationship with the Johrlac? Am I supposed to be a little confused because one of these is true, and Verity hasn't figured it out yet?

(I mean, you've mentioned Sarah and her wasp in the past, but I wondered if maybe this were a case where dedicated readers of your LJ actually know more than the characters in the book.)
Apraxis wasps are normally super-uber-predators rar, and once they move into an area, they don't move out. Unless a cuckoo moves in. Then they are OUTTA THERE.

Tracking the movement of Apraxis hives with no apparent reason to move is how they managed to figure out cuckoos existed in the first place.

I adored it! And the shout-out to the food service industry MADE. MY. DAY. (I've had that "service" line used on me before; wish I'd been able to do what Verity did) I can't wait for the spousebeast to read it. :)

I'm looking forward to reading more. And starting to make up my own religious festivals, a la the Aeslin Mice.

Nicely done, as always. <3
I may possibly have been known to roam around my house squealing "HAIL!" at everything.

It has been SO HARD not to spoil that...

Absolutely!

I did put the "Because crazy gets all the knives" comment into my LJ for others to enjoy. And I read long sections of it out loud to my SO. The section on Argentine Tango made me laugh until I choked.

P.S. - Icon love! I know what Kestrel's book says on it even if the print is too small to read in a 100x100 icon.

Istas. ISTAS. ORGAN HABERDASHERY.

And 'You think I'm a virgin?'

And the mice, obviously. THE MICE. CHEESE AND CAKE!

And the whole book. basically, but OMFG, the noises I made. I got a voicemail from my bookstore and raced down there on my ten minute break (well, it took fifteen, but who's counting), and then had to wait the rest of the workday before I could start reading. But oh, how worth the wait it was!
YAY!!!!!
Well done, Seanan, brava!

I decided that if The Husband can take a day off work (he was up late watching Super Tuesday coverage), then so can I, dagnabbit. So I spent all morning reading, and finished the book before lunch. Having devoured it (starting last night), I can now do a slower reread and savor it.

I love your knack for creating a world that's always been, is now, and will be, and then dropping the reader into it without having to explain things to death. My favorite authors do that, trust in the intelligence of the reader. Perhaps that's why they're my favorites...

I love all the strong women, too. I don't know about the mice, they seem a bit too noisy for me, and the Resident Felines might not appreciate the competition. I do like the idea of the mice, though. Cheese and cake!
That was the most fun I've had sitting down in AGES.

So - when do the frickens show up?

This one really didn't twang my 'ohSHIT' like Feed did - more like the Indiana Jones movies (no, really). And I love the 'family' framing this series will have (and a bit sad there are so few Prices, but that's also the nature of things, neh?) - rare, and something more than the hipster twenty-somethings I have to set aside my disbelief for. (Fourteen, if it's anime.)
No frickens in the first two, yes frickens in the third.
Today is the Festival of Up Way Too Late Last Night Reading, celebrated with gleeful random quotes, slow-moving interpretive dance and ingestion of sacred chocolate for both the tasty and for the caffeine.

Hail!

It was everything I wanted it to be. Seriously, it was so happy making and hard to put down. I missed my bus stop while somewhere near the end. It's my daily bus and I never miss it, but I was so absorbed in the "WHAT NOW" that I totally didn't even notice.

Love Istas. Love Sarah. I'm on Team Sarah, for sure. She's such a nerd but it's great. And Dominic was awesome. I loved how realistically he transitioned from a Kool-Aid drinking fanatic to a reasonable person (it took a while, which it would).

I watch all kinds of reality tv, but I've never watched the dancing shows. This book kind of made me want to, mostly because my knowledge of dancing is Jazz Square and Dance Central (with some past DDR history I'd rather no discuss).

Kudos! Hail!
Yeah, Dominic's transition was one of my favorite parts, too. One you fall in cute-thrall with the Mice, you're done for.

That was pretty frickin' badass. I've been on the edge of squee for days, wanting to talk about it. Though I gotta say, even though it ended up well, Verity has GOT to work on operational security.
Yeah, she really does.
Seriously loved this book. And not just our heroine (who is awesome), but every minor character really felt like the hero of their own story. I adored them all.
Yes, the 'minor' characters totally rocked. They're all so well-developed and fleshed out, it's easy to picture them in my mind.

Loved this book soooooo much.

I mean, not that there's anything wrong with Toby or Newsflesh. But this whole book just filled me with so much glee. I spent an entire shower (and I take LONG showers) pondering whether I wanted my own Aeslin mice enough to boot my cats, or if I'd need to sleep with a gun like Verity so they know to keep their distance.

Also, the pile o' weapons around the sex scene cracked me up. I do so love a romance with people on equal footing. Dominic wishes he could be an alpha, but he's way too confused.

I bookmarked all my favorite quotes so I could type them into Goodreads, and put up a little cheer every time other users "liked" them. I'm surprised "Crazy gets all the knives" doesn't have more likes. I laughed so loud I woke Josh up from a sound sleep when I got to that line.

Beautifully done!
I am so glad you liked it. :)

I bought it yesterday and read it all in one sitting. Another home run, knocked straight out of the park. Job very well done.
Thank you!
