From A to Z in the InCryptid Alphabet: H.

H is for HEALY.

Originally from Great Britain, the Healys served the Covenant of St. George for over five hundred years without question or complaint. Some members of the family still do; Alexander and Enid did not, after all, represent the entire family line. In their time, the Healys were great monster hunters, and their name struck fear into cryptid hearts all across the Continent.

In Buckley, Michigan, the name "Healy" means the brief legacy of librarians who ran the local library with gentle hands and friendly smiles. Alexander Healy, the first man to encourage female library aides to apply. Jonathan Healy, stiffer and a little more awkward than his father, but friendly and brilliant. Alice Healy, who came home after the death of her grandfather and ran the children's library for years.

On the ghostroads, the name "Healy" means a smiling blonde woman with six-shooters at her hips and an Arizona drawl, showing a newly-died ghost girl how to make the best of what she had become. Frances Healy knew how to make an impression.

In certain drinking halls and secret libraries, the name "Healy" still means a Welshwoman with ink-stained fingers and clever eyes, asking questions no one had thought to ask before. Enid Healy expanded the family's understanding of the cryptid world by centuries.

The Healy legacy lives on in their descendants, the Price family, and in a certain strain of angry monster hunters, still working for the Covenant, furious about what their family has become. Blood is thicker than water, after all.

Secret libraries!!
They exist!
One of the main reasons I want to get my Melbourne Magic books published is because I have a secret magical library that is run by a cat. I feel this is something the world needs.

She lives in Michigan through most of the documented narrative, which may have some impact.
I mean this as a compliment, and I'm afraid it's not going to come out properly. This series of alphabet pieces is probably one of the best book marketing ideas I've seen. A week ago, I might have eventually picked up a copy of the book, because I enjoy your writing. Today, I called my local bookstore and asked them to place a hold on a copy for me, because now I'm totally hooked on this world I see unfolding, letter by letter.
I think that came out precisely right. :) Thank you, and I'm glad.

This makes me think of Sparrow Hill Road.
That's because I think it should ;). Back on the Enid entry, someone cross-linked to proof about how the two worlds are linked.

Here's a really silly question. I looked up Buckley, Michigan on Mapquest, and discovered that it's less than twenty miles from the town of Interlochen, home of one of my favorite places in the whole world. Have any of the Healys or Prices (like, say, Verity) ever attended the arts camp or arts academy there? As a camp alum, I'm curious.
Probably not. Kevin and Jane were mostly raised by their Aunt Laura, who moved them to Oregon as soon as Alice agreed to the idea.
Secret libraries? L-Space? Love it!
No L-space, I'm afraid. That's Pratchett's purview.
I don't know about that, I've found a few used bookstores that extend into L-space.

Still, your world, your rules, and I'm getting very excited about the new book!
Is Major Roger Healy related to them, but they never talk about him because he's an embarassment?
He was Major Nelson's fellow officer in "I Dream of Jinny", always trying to lure Barbara Eden to HIS place. That was quite a bit before your time. :-)

I got the ARC! It helped make up for the fact that my wife's boss made her work late on Valentine's, though I missed being able to gabble at her. And, you know, snuggles and so forth. ;_;. Still! Good book is good, though I'm afraid that hmmmm that was spoilers argh sorry. >_
Well, good.

I am so loving the Incryptid alphabet. I love learning the little details of a world, especially those bits that don't always make it explicitly into a story, and these posts give such a great sense of the voice and/or tone.

Is it weird that I want to timeline this stuff?

[Also, yay "Wicked." The show is finally coming here to Hawaii, and I am just waiting for the tickets to go on sale.]
Nope. I timelined it.
There's such a rich and well thought out history for this whole concept.
Thank you.
Libraries, something to take pride in.
Yes.
