Ninety-nine bottles of blood on the wall, ninety-nine bottles of blood...

As of today, it is ninety-nine days to the release of Discount Armageddon. This is the first book in the InCryptid series; it's my first new series since 2010 (and wow, does that feel like a weird thing to say). It's the introduction to my huge, crazy, wonderful family of cryptozoologists and happy eccentrics, who think that taxidermy and talking mice are perfectly normal things to have around the house.

I am excited. I am terrified.

See, when A Local Habitation came out, some people compared it to the latest Dresden files book and said that Toby lacked the emotional resonance of Harry Dresden. This was sort of understandable, given that I had two books to build my character, and Butcher had like eleven, but it also awoke in me a deep existential dread. Which is now back, full-force, since following One Salt Sea with the start of a new series is a really good way to invoke that same critique. I don't borrow trouble. I rent it, and yes, I am an insecure blonde sometimes.

I am also mad happy, because I love this series so much, and I love this family so much, and I'm writing nine books to make you care enough to let me write book ten, Spelunking Through Hell: A Visitor's Guide to the Underworld and have you really really care and WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT. You know I was an alien pod plant when you picked me up.

While I'm loving on things, I love my cover (and so do some other people, which is mad awesome, much like the cover itself). I love my subject matter experts. I love my Machete Squad. I love my publisher. I love my editor. I love The Agent. And I love everyone who has been involved, no matter how tangentially, in making this series a reality. It's had a long, weird genesis, and I am excited beyond words.

It's gonna be a book.

You've been talking about these folks a long, LONG time. It can't help but be epic. ;) (That's the way things roll around here.)
I surely hope so.
HAIL THE UPCOMING RELEASE OF THE BOOK!

And from the comments section of the Cover Crush site, "St. Trinian's meets Batman" is the best description of a cover aesthetic ever.
Given the book itself...that's not a bad description!

Will put it in my day planner to look for!
We've been looking forward to it since you first announced the book, and even more so since hearing the bit you read at the One Salt Sea release party. If that's a good guide to the rest of the book, it's going to be awesome.
That makes me happy. :)
NOW THAT MY HAIR IS SHORT I WILL TOTALLY ATTEND A CON WHILE DRESSED AS VERITY PRICE I SWEAR TO GOD I JUST NEED TO GET MY ABS SLIGHTLY MORE TONED.

<3 <3 <3

Sorry for allcaps. Some things require squealing. :)

I'm super excited for this book to fill the gaping hole in my reading life where cryptozoology should be present and isn't, which has henceforth been Unfair.
OMG YAY!!!!!!
I'm really looking forward to this book. The cover rocks, but I bet what's inside is better.
I surely hope so.
Congratulations! And good luck.
Thank you.
I've added an event to my iPod calendar. Date March 6, event name "Discount Armageddon," location "Pandemonium." Now I hope that an FBI agent with an excessive imagination doesn't get hold of my iPod. :)
That would be...bad.
At one point, batyatoon and I actually wrote a Cheese and Cake song. I wonder what we did with it.
I do not know!

Ordered and Amazon says they are shipping a day early. I hope that does not screw up your sales numbers.
I hope so. I think that counts as week of release...
talking mice are perfectly normal things to have around the house.

..but how is their singing?
(marking book release date on calendar)
Pretty good!
Are there, by chance, any LBGT characters in the new series? I'll read it even if there aren't, but if there were, that would be the icing on the cake.
Yes! Verity's dance partner, James, and his husband, Dennis, are gay, although they're not central to the book.

Love, love, love the cover!

I think I know who I want to be for Halloween....
YAY.
I've now read all the Toby books and am 79% the way through Feed (having read Countdown before it) and I think you have earned your spot on the "buy on release day" (if it is available for Kindle).

I am so glad I went to Worldcon and so sad my friends didn't tell me about you before!

I love my Kindle.

But paper still works and Amazon is Very Good about shipping.

I think my co-workers have become accustomed to my eccentricities. I just squeaked with delight, and spun circles of glee in my desk chair. S (who sits across the aisle) didn't even flinch - just looked over and asked "new book coming out?"

Had no idea I'd become so predictable... :-)
Hee!

Predictable rocks.
You know I was an alien pod plant when you picked me up.

I certainly have figured it out since, anyway, and I am waiting with mingled delight and terror for the pod to split and someThing to come out and eat my head.

Hopefully I can teach It all my songs first so they will live after me.
That is the beauty and virtue of the alien pod! It remembers these things forever and for always.
it's my first new series since 2010

Darn kids! When I was your age, I came up with a new series every month. Oh wait. I can't write my story way out of a paper bag, unlike you.

I'm sure you'll remind us, when we're closer to the release date.
Seems I can't stop.
I love the cover, always have. Even if I weren't already a fan and really looking forward to this book that cover would smack me in the face from the shelves and prompt me to pick up and give the book a try.
Being a fan I'm really excited for this and I am confident that it will deliver. I'm really looking forward to spending 10 books with the cryptozoologists from InCryptid.
I hope you get that chance.
So excited for Discount Armageddon. I think I'll buy a second copy and give it to my cousin for her birthday (which is conveniently in may).
This idea pleases me.
Really looking forward to it=)
Yay. :)
Not to any point, but have I mentioned how much I love the title Discount Armageddon?
No! Thank you!
As I wait I am wearing my metaphorical Aeslin mice t-shirt.
YAY.
See, when A Local Habitation came out, some people compared it to the latest Dresden files book and said that Toby lacked the emotional resonance of Harry Dresden.

You know, that's funny, because I think Harry Dresden lacks the emotional resonance of Toby.
Thank you for that.
See, when A Local Habitation came out, some people compared it to the latest Dresden files book and said that Toby lacked the emotional resonance of Harry Dresden.

I've never read the Harry Dresden books, so I don't know how emotionally resonant he is, but I thought Toby showed great depths of emotion in Rosemary and Rue, so I don't know what those other reviewers are talking about.

yes, I am an insecure blonde sometimes

That's why you have us, your legion of loyal fans, to remind you how awesome you are.

I'm writing nine books to make you care enough to let me write book ten

I don't need nine books to make me want more -- you had me buying this series each and every release day from your first mention of cryptozoologists.

Now I need a Verity icon. At least I have one with a mouse. :-)
The Verity icons are on my website now!
Cheese! And! Cake!

I am happy to report that the package with the books for Sass and Kii in Australia arrived safely.
Yay!
